The trump tax cut. It was a disaster when Kansas this.
Really? "Cut out some of the loopholes"...while creating how many new ones? The effect is the same.
Promised growth never happens in these plans, except in a select few pockets.
Funny, Trump's tax promise was "you'll do your taxes on a postcard", not "I'll make taxes more convoluted and cut hundreds of billions a year for multi millionaires and businesses while actually raising them for the poor."
Did you do your taxes on a postcard in <5 minutes? Will you save the >$4000 he promised?
Winning.
Trump tax cuts not the same as Kansas tax cuts.. It cut out some of the loop holes that Kansas had... Kansas was a example and lessons learned.

Falcon Heavy & Starman | Inspiring New SpaceX Video
Golly sir, I sure am glad you’re here to explain it to me, but just for shits and giggles, let me take a stab at it.
Elon Musk wants to make humanity a multi-planet species, otherwise we are at risk of some kind of planet wide extinction level event. Having looked at the problem, he thinks the fundamental issue is one of economics. If he can get the price per person for a trip to Mars down to $500k, he figures he’ll get enough mad, bad and rich AF people to give forming a colony a go.
But that first step from earth to orbit is motherfucking expensive and aside from crazy unproven tech like a space elevator, thanks to the Tyranny of the Rocket Equation there really isn’t a cheap way to do this in terms of energy expenditure.
Ok, thinks Elon, what’s the other major cost in this whole shooting things into space gig? Hmm, the big fucking rocket costs a lot... be nice if we could reuse that instead of building a new one each time.
So he works on building a reusable rocket, and after many hilarious videos of “rapid unscheduled disassembly”, fuck me if the damn thing doesn’t start to stick the landing!
So now we need to do the same, but with a bigger rocket and a heavier payload. Can’t really risk an actual payload (see previous video of RUD) so what to do?
Well, the sensible, cost effective thing would be just a big heavy weight. But that’s got fuck all viral marketing appeal, so if you’re gonna shoot something into space as part of a multi billion dollar rocket program, what’s a measly couple of hundred k compared to the millions in free advertising for both Tesla and SpaceX this will generate!
Well, look at that. Turns out I do understand this!
But if think sending an expensive sports car into space WASN’T a frivolous waste of money, I invite you to spend time with someone sleeping rough or a family who doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from.
As I said, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it, but don’t pretend this was anything other than a billionaire doing something insanely cool and expensive because he thought it was cool.
If you think this was frivolous and a waste of money then you really don't understand the intent and the possible benefit of this.
Trump Owns Reporters Upset About Arpaio Pardon
Oh Bob. If his tactics were used primarily against whites or if he was black or a democrat, you would say he's the worst monster in American history.
$140 million to pay for his illegal actions, with dozens of multi million dollar claims still in litigation....that's a great sheriff? 160 deaths in his jail that he gleefully calls a concentration camp, many if not most from undetermined causes....that's a great sheriff?
Yes, under Obama, the DOJ was interested in people abusing their power in ways that were clearly unconstitutional, like pulling people over because they looked Hispanic for no other reason than to check if they were legal citizens...a clear violation of civil rights....but yeah...fuck that constitution thing if it's in the way of fucking with beaners, huh? Wow.
Trump has set a precedent that you and yours will regret when power swings the other direction. You constantly seem to forget that it will.
There are far more democrats than republicans in America, so again, not sure where you get this idea besides wishful thinking....similar to wishing you could equate the radicals with the liberals. good luck with that.
Arpaio is a great sheriff and OBAMA and his DOJ wanted to fuck with him... Well Trump got the last laugh.
The democrat party is dead being drag into the sewer by radical liberalism.

Cop Pepper Spraying Teenage Girl
In America, you have every right to ignore them unless they give a lawful command, which you must obey. They cannot arrest you for silence, or for ignoring a request. I'll take my brother's expensive lawyer's advice over anyone's, and he said the only answer allowed is "ask my lawyer", and to do what they command, but not what they ask.
The girl wasn't aggressively pushing to me, but she also wasn't complying with a lawful command. If the audio is any indication, she was trying to get her phone out of her pocket while lying down handcuffed. She should have complied, but they also should have put her all the way in like they're trained to do, not 3/4 of the way. It's easy and safe to open the other door and pull her another foot into the car where she can't block anything, and that doesn't result in a lawsuit and more public distrust, but that wouldn't teach her a lesson. Pepper spray is not as safe as that by far.
It's not cool to hate cops, and I really wish they would stop getting caught doing things that foster hatred. I want them to act in a way the public can always support, not the least patient and most aggressive they can legally justify in every situation. It would be good if they could be thinking 'how would I feel if someone did this to my daughter/son under the same conditions.
I doubt any of them would be ok with that happening to their child, tantrum or no. They could have been worse here, but also could have defused it all with a single simple command to sit at the beginning. Don't expect an irrational, young, scared girl to act like an adult...that's beyond the capabilities of most adults.
You can humbly submit to authority if you wish. My forefathers fought and died to secure my rights to not answer questions or submit to the every whim of authority, I'll not disrespect their sacrifices by waiving those hard won rights for authority's, or my own convenience.
It would be nice if 15 year old girls were civil, but few I've known are when cornered. I think that's the real reason for the spraying, but not an excuse imo. To me, the cop's pride needs to give way to reason and logic, or we'll keep paying out multi million dollar judgements.
Now this is good footage. You see and hear what the cop sees and hears and you actually have context before the incident. This why all cops should wear body cams and why body cam footage should be released to the public.
The cop was entirely justified here. The suspect tried to flee the scene, refused to cooperate or comply with commands and physically resisted arrest. When the suspect repeatedly tried to keep the car door open with her legs, the cops made the correct choice in pepper-spraying her. It's very hard to close a door when someone is aggressively pushing it open. Brute force might have worked but that would have been dangerous and potentially lead to accidental injury. Pepper spray was the safest option.
And newtboy, ignoring the police is not "totally fine." In fact, it's one of the dumbest and most dangerous things you can do. Police are authority figures with the right to detain or arrest you. As such, the best way to deal with police is to listen and cooperate in a civil manner. If the girl had done that, she wouldn't have been cuffed, carried off to the police car or pepper-sprayed. I know it's cool to hate cops (and authority figures in general) but at a certain point, pride needs to give way to reason and logic.

Sweet zombie Jesus, that's fucking awful.
They actually said on the record that they think their training makes them better at detecting drugs than a blood test?!? And this bullshit doesn't get tossed every time?
I just hope those 3 all start multi million dollar lawsuits against the force, county, and him personally for violating their civil rights. He needs to be homeless, carless, and pensionless, and that force needs to learn this isn't acceptable.
Astonishing he's getting accolades just for arrest numbers and not convictions. You would think people would know better. We should never give authority an incentive to abuse their authority, and that's exactly what this M.O. is.

New Rule: The Lesser of Two Evils
@newtboy
i like the 'failing liver" analogy.
appropriate and easily understood.
and i can understand where milkmandan is coming from, but my perspective is more aligned with yours newt.
what consistently baffles me,is how so many people are willing to simply accept this short term strategy from our politicians.
there is no surprise when corporations push for this, they are just focusing on their own interests and bottom line, which is short term profit.
or the politicians who bow to their neoliberal masters to receive those tasty campaign contributions.
or even the banks, who again focus on their short term gains.
these players are all behaving as they always have:for their own self interest.so there should be no shock or surprise when they act exactly as they have always acted.
but when i see everyday, normal people defend the behavior and actions of oliticians, financial institutions and multi-national corporations.it baffles me as to why they would choose to do such a thing.
we can understand why those players seek to retain a system which benefits them, their shareholders and their bottom line, but that system no longer serves the interests of the people, community and society as a whole.
so why make arguments defending it?
it is,quite frankly, killing us slowly as a species.
look at germany.
that country has slowly been recruiting, educating and now poised to corner the market in:new energy, renewable energy and are leading the world in breakthrough technologies in all energy fields.
germany has long played the long game.
they now dominate the entire EU in finance, and are now focusing on dominating the globe with new energy technology.
and what are we doing here in america?
pushing through more and more neoliberal policies that immiserate the working poor, both here and abroad.desperately continuing our destruction of entire ecosystems to exploit our natural resources for:oil and gas.military conflicts, which only make this country less safe, all to exploit other nations and extract THEIR oil and gas,and the cost in human lives is absolutely indefensible.
all of it.
every single bit of it for short term gains for an extremely small minority.
and here we are, with trump opening the flood gates to further exploit and destroy our natural resources with no thought or plan for the future.no investment in our communities, nor our society as a whole.
and for those who wish to make an argument that hillary would be better.i will only concede that on a domestic level this may have been true, but hillary is a neoliberal corporatist, and she would have pushed for even MORE military intervention in the middle east.MORE sanctions against countries unwilling to play ball,in order to politically squeeze them out,and even MORE of this countries policy of "regime change" to exploit and extract from those countries their precious resources.
i strongly suspect Iran would have been next on her agenda.
so when are some of these people going to step up,and realize that both trump AND clinton are (or would have been) disasterous for us as a community,a nation and as a species?
because they both only offer short term solutions to long term problems.and those short term solutions only benefit a minority of the population.
we could turn this ship around TODAY,right now,if we so choose.
we need more politicians like elizabeth warren and tulsi gabbard.we need more integrity in our media and journalists willing to do their job and criticize power, not bow to it just for access.we need the people to become engaged and confront their representatives, and make them uncomfortable, not treat them as celebrities.
and we need to reject the system where rich people choose who we get to vote for,and begin to dismantle this two party duopoly.
because trump vs hillary?
this election cycle has just revealed that both these candidates are not the disease, but rather the symptom of a very broken, and dysfunctional political system.
we need to begin to invest in the future.
and reject the status quo as no longer being viable for the continued existence of the human species.
and with the newly energized american public, who are growing in numbers daily, and is a direct response to the unmitigated disaster that is trump.there may be hope for us yet.
because if we stay on this trajectory,we are fucking doomed.
What you need to know about the Obamacare repeal
@Drachen_Jager
yeah, the way i am reading it is that this new plan is going to defer much more control, and therefore responsibility,to a state level.
considering that many local municipalities are broke, bankrupt or on the verge of both.i do not see this ending well.with local and state governments being forced to trim plans to non-existent coverage,or raise premiums.
as it is written right now, this is a lose -lose for the republicans.
and to answer your question @ChaosEngine,the american people are down with single payer according to the polls (when the right questions are asked),and this includes moderate republicans.
so it is not the american people,it is the multi-billion dollar health insurance industry, and THEIR politicial bullshit is an entirely separate conversation.
let's just say they are cunts, and leave it at that.
Millennial Home Buyer
LOL, East Palo Alto. I volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club there for a year when I lived in Mountain View. Two cops got shot and East Palo Alto had the highest murder rate ever that year. It's utterly insane how on one side of the 101 you have these multi-million dollar mansions and Stanford University and on the other side you have gangland.
Meanwhile, back on topic, when I moved to Mountain View in 2002 my rent was $800 a month for a studio apartment. The rent went up by $100 a year every year until I finally called it quits in 2007 when they wanted to charge me $1300 a month. I gave up ever actually being able to own a home in the Bay Area (let alone rent) and left in 2009.
In Japan now, and things aren't quite as bad as the Bay Area, but we've been house hunting recently and we're shocked at the disparity between what we want versus what we can actually afford, even with both us being full-time professionals. I know that 2nd place he goes to is supposed to be a joke but it's not that far off from the truth, at least as far as our experiences go. While the places we've been shown by the real estate agent are certainly habitable, they aren't particularly nice. So we're going to have to decide whether we want to live someplace not so great with the advantage being the mortgage will be paid off by the time we retire or just rent in a place we're comfortable with and wind up having to really budget hard after retirement since rent will consume a sizable portion of our pensions/social security.
I stand corrected.
Some of those didn't even look horrible. I just did a quick Zillow search, obviously they don't have every listing, but I thought they were better than that.
I still can't believe what my brother got for his rat nest, but it is under 10 blocks from UT. Location, location, location.
I agree, a bad Austin neighborhood is like a great LA neighborhood. I lived in East Palo Alto for years, so I know bad neighborhoods. ;-)
New Rule: Make Earth Great Again
"I don't want to be a multi-planet species." Does this dork think Earth's going to last forever? What happened to, "Space, the final frontier." Bill?
I agree we take care of our planet, but there's no reason to give up on exploring the cosmos. Jeez!
If High School and College Textbooks Were Honest
I remember having to buy new edition Calculus book ($100+) because they switched the texts between calc 2 and calc 3. Wasn't this shit invented 400 years ago? Did I really need a new book with slightly different questions? apparently so.
Meanwhile the author (Stewart) lives in a multi-million dollar ocean-front mansion on the west coast.
Fun fact: the Indian government regulates textbook costs, and even though the editions sold there are paperback only and lower-quality print, they are <1/10th the cost of western-published books with identical content. (It's illegal to export them out of India though.) Isn't it nice when a democracy works for the people rather than for corporations?
Trigger Happy Cop Attacks Private Investigator
Thing is people are simple, and they go by what seems normal based on their norms. A serious dude who acts unusual and confident is terrifying for a noob cop who knows he can get shot by a serious gangster facing a multi life term in a nighmare profit prison if he blinks. The whole situation in the US seems to now be terrified men pointing guns at each other with shaking hands. When I visit I'm just glad to get out alive.

Why Planes Don't Fly Faster
Most airliners have wings designed to be used in low transsonic. They can't effectively go faster. They would literally lose lift if they went faster. Their wing shape is made to only delay the onset of shockwaves on top of the wing (flat-ish top), allowing it to safely creep closer to mach1 than otherwise, but not to operate within/past mach1.
Fan/propeller blades themselves are also mach limited.
(They can be designed to be supersonic, but then you end up with something like this... which in hindsight nobody wants : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_XF-84H)
A subsonic airfoil in a fan/propeller, operating near/at supersonic speed, loses the ability to move/redirect air, due to shockwave disruption of the airflow.
Fans/propellers with subsonic blades that spin at subsonic speeds are effectively speed limited. They lose efficiency above ~500 mph, where they begin to stop generating thrust as they travel faster. Their pitch has to increase higher and higher, until they are no longer much of an airscrew and more of a 'feathered' configuration.
Supersonic jet engines use intake devices (such as shock cones) to decelerate incoming air to subsonic speeds, so the compressor (itself a fan, i.e. a highly multi bladed propeller) can operate on that air to compress it and feed the engine combustion chambers.
Airliners have no intake devices to decelerate incoming air, and they would lose engine compression when entering near mach1 speeds.
Furthermore, their bypass fans (which are glorified propellers) would stop providing thrust.
You would need to design different planes (like the concorde). You can't just throttle up a modern airliner and go faster [than X limit] - like you can in a modern car.
-scheherazade
What a stupid video. That is like saying why cars don't drive faster than 30 years ago.
Of course cars ARE faster now, but that doesn't matter when speed limits haven't really changed.
Planes don't fly faster because it is not worth it. Pretty simple.
