Rick and Morty visit: Shaun of the Dead

Audi Traffic Light Assistance

grinter says...

There should be two types of cars:
- Those decked out with all kinds of techno-wizardry.
and..
- Those you can fix any part of with a wrench, welder, and a screwdriver.

Both have their place.
..also, can we get less intrusive motion graphics please?

Clever Microsoft ad

braindonut says...

After seeing all the info pouring out of the launch event, I think Microsoft is actually making a pretty good case for their phone. But we'll see next month whether or not it can walk the walk.

Whether or not it could dethrone the iPhone - I doubt it. But it does seem well positioned to make Android the wal-mart of smartphones, as a friend of mine put it. And, personally, I like the UI. It has great motion graphics and it's creative, unlike the giant wall of icons we have on other smart phones. I can't wait to try it out.

Plus, having one of the most easy development environments (Silverlight) and widespread game development toolkits (XNA) on the market is going to be a nice ace in the pocket when it comes to app development.

Flash and HTML 5 (Blog Entry by dag)

Are there not other ways to do motion graphics without Flash's model of frames and tweens?

IMO the only way Flash will survive is to open the FLA and make it a web standard. While the SWF runtime is open and lots of programs can make one (eg. Swift3D) - Adobe nee Macromedia has always maintained tight control over the FLA source.

To be honest, even that probably won't save Flash. the wind is blowing towards search-engine readable HTML - and plug-ins feel like old technology.

>> ^rougy:
I need to look into that, but I don't think Flash is going anywhere.
Unless I'm missing something, I don't see any frames or tweens yet.
I personally think Flash would do well to release "low caliber" versions of Flash editors for free so that people can get in there and play with the basics.
I'm a huge Flash enthusiast, but the main thing that prohibits its popularity is, in large part, the price of the editor.

The indie rock band Modest Mouse is getting the royal treatment from Bent Image Lab’s new director/partner Nando Costa. Just completed, the band’s new music video is a dark and expressive piece of film-making. Heavily rooted in live-action, the impressive six-minute video includes intense moments of stop motion, visual effects, and motion graphics techniques, all brought to life within the studio’s walls.

The visuals follow an artist who enters his personal sanctuary where he is presented with a hand-crafted drawing tool that assists him in materializing his mental impressions. Through drawing circular patterns, the machine discharges an endless web of yarn that guides him through his visual representations of his memories. The story progresses to reveal that he is divided between two worlds, one of dull reality and the second of warped memories. In the process of finding a way out of his consciousness, he is trapped between the two competing spaces, which eventually inflict lethal damage, acting as metaphors to self-destruction.

This lyrical and moving piece was conceived by Nando Costa working closely with lead singer/guitarist Isaac Brock to polish some of the film's intricacies. Featuring a seamless combination of live-action and stop motion that alternates between stage shots of Modest Mouse and a spiraling dream-like world of ever-shifting landscapes, Whale Song is a stunning representation of the combined capabilities of Nando and Bent. The variety and execution of the VFX portions of the video – from yarn reeling into complex patterns to a guitar that plays with no musician attached – strongly evoke the confused and surreal patterns of one's warped memories. Additional creative touches such as animated and intricate photographic collages and giant CG snails sliding across the band's stage – add variety and depth to the surreal world.

vvvv is a toolkit for real time video synthesis. It is designed to facilitate the handling of large media environments with physical interfaces, real-time motion graphics, audio and video that can interact with many users simultaneously.

vvvv uses a visual programming interface. Therefore it provides a graphical programming language for easy prototyping and development.

vvvv is real time. where many other languages have distinct modes for building and running programs, vvvv only has one mode - runtime.

That's neat. I don't want to sound like a youtuber, but could that be CG?

I think it is, too!
Starts out rather convincing, but the circle they form and the "fly by" at the end are kind of a giveaway.

Would be interesting to know what it is for.
Then again it might just be some kid playing with motion graphics...

From what he's posted I'm pretty sure he's involved in Motion Graphics or some kind of video... thing.

Nope, video stuff is just a hobby

Enough about me, what about me...

I'm a audio engineer, I do a fair amount of mastering, and transfer for the Recording Industry. I have been doing this for around 7 years, 3 years ago I busted a move and opened my own biz. Much happier working for myself. I work essentially with all of the same people, only now it's from my home studio instead of the ol' office building. I was nominated for a Grammy last year, not too shabby.

Got my start in the arts back in the day, Got my college degree (BFA) in the arts back in 88 from The North Carolina School Of The Arts.

I make my home in the sleepy seaside village of Los Angeles, with my super groovy 5 year old son, Jack.
