Game of Thrones Season 8 Pitch Meeting

MonkeySpank says...

I truly believe D&D rehearsed their future Star Wars project techniques for Disney while finishing Season 8 - Story be damned!

What we got is medieval storm trooper fights and minimalist conversation full of non-sequitur in what once was a wonderful tapestry of political backstabbing and intrigue.

God damn it!

The New iPhone is Just Worse

Jinx says...

They claim the headphone jack was a roadblock to water resistance and that they have used the space for more important things. I'm...not convinced.

The cynical me thinks its just apple trying to undermine the 3.5mm jack with their proprietary overpriced shit. The less cynical part of me sees it as a continuation of their minimalist design philosophy. This is a company that would give you just one button to control your computer with if they could (whether it makes sense or not). Also, aesthetically it is more in line with their sort of "magic box" thing - they don't want you to see it as a machine with working parts and the familiar 3.5mm jack kind of breaks that illusion.

I go through a lot of headphones every year. The point of failure is almost always the wire or the connection at either end, so while I know I'd lose those earpods or w/e the fuck they are calling them in a heartbeat, and I do love the ubiquity of the 3.5mm jack, I must admit I do quite like the idea of not having the wire.

Kawehi covers Closer by NIN

A bit minimalist in spots considering the deep layering of the source material, but damn good for a live solo.
Also, she seems to be missing the soul crushing depression required to properly sing Nine Inch Nails, still *quality

oregon militia-stop sending us bags of dicks

harlequinn says...

Taking advantage of federal mail would be sending it, not receiving it as he did.

That said, do you know he's against all government? If he's a constitutionalist, then he probably supports government in minimalist form.

And here I was thinking you'd like the Fleshlight Anal Edition...

Seriously though, they should consider keeping some of those dicks. That big double ender looks like it would make a handy billy club if they run out of bullets.

ps. Yeah, I also thought it was highly ironic that they were happy to take advantage of the federal mail whilst protesting against the gov. Socialism is so sneaky even right wing militia nuts are fans of it. /grin

VideoSift v6 (VS6) Beta Front Page (Sift Talk Post)

radx says...

It reverts to single column at around 1200px or 60% width, but I'm not going to alternate between fullscreen and windowed for a single site.

An option for a single column layout would be rather nice, particularly a minimalistic one.

oritteropo said:

You only need to reduce the width of your window a bit and it'll go back to single column. (also @radx)

Thanks very much for the detailed feedback.

I don't really think I'm going to do anything with it. My first idea was just that maybe I'd put up a page where I put a video every day. But now I've built what I think is a pretty slick, minimalist interface for viewing playlists that could be cool for sharing a list of videos with others.

Maybe it could even be turned into the default VS playlist player. Hmm...

Very cool! Is there a way to sort the videos? I will probably have to spend the rest of the day watching these, some of my favorites up there!.

If I could ever get my YT bookmarks sorted out, I'd request a list for funny doggie videos (I bookmark way too much stuff and then can never find anything.. this is a great way to keep tabs of your favorites!)

The 'Genocidal Stupidity' of the Catholic Ban on Condoms

cosmovitelli says...

Look at shinyblurry- smart but clearly crippled by unhelpful dogma that has exacerbated rather than reduced the inherent existential trauma in being a conscious organism apparently spontaneously existing in a mindbogglingly vast and uncaring Universe (even these minimalist words are necessarily reductive). He can justify bombing, spreading aids and even openly destroying the environment for personal economic gain to accelerate the 'day of judgement'. (No joke, all in HIS posts on THIS SITE).

Also, you should learn more about the Jonestown massacre before speaking so causally about people desperate enough to knowingly drink poison and give it to their children in the hope that it will somehow make things better.

You need to start making more sense fast Yogi or those with brains are going to consider you a fool and stop wasting time on you.

Ok but I don't see why this is a big deal. If you're stupid enough to follow this shit than you're stupid enough to die. It's similar to drinking the kool-aid in my mind

BANNED TED Talks Graham Hancock on Consciousness Emergence

shagen454 says...

To me there is no controversy. Whatever this stuff is it changes lives. It is difficult. I have never felt so alone yet so alive, transformed. I lived in an existential world, for some reason I believed in nothing. Never in my wildest dreams of taking mushrooms or acid did I ever think it had an actual link to who a person really is on an infinite and universal scale. Yet, here it is, the minimalist strain of tryptamine. Like TMK said, it is twenty years of pharmacology, art history, religion and philosophy all in a toke that lasts for ten minutes more or less. I was a speculator, a doubter as well...just like you probably are right now. If you doubt then you should shed the ten minutes of your life to find out. What are you afraid of? The immensity of truth? To know this is not the end? To know that real existence exists outside of this bark, these bones, these plants, this world, this universe? Become aware; this is our destiny, our compass, real evolution. FUCK capitalism with a sick dick.

Neal Peart of RUSH discussing LimeLight and vocal timing

chingalera says...

Peart, Terry Bozzio, Ginger Baker and Kieth Moon have always been my favorites for sheer energy in execution, improvisation, and texture. John Bonham was fun to listen to and watch, too. Surprisingly, I sat mesmerized by Charlie Watts at this show in 79' in Dallas where the band was Page, Clapton, and Beck all jamming with Entwistle on bass and Watts on drums. He looks like a tax collector sitting there but busts out an incredible envelop of rhythm with the precision of a Swiss timepiece on a minimalist kit.

Noah Cover Mash Up - Aint No Sunshine/Harder To Breathe

CelebrateApathy says...

Personally, I'm consistently impressed by the kind of recording quality that comes out of peoples relatively inexpensive and minimalist home studios.

It seems like big money record contracts (indentured servitude) are becoming less and less necessary.

You might not get injured, but there's no guarantee you won't step in some deep dookie from time to time =o)

Pretty much. I've been into "barefoot" running for awhile now. In that I've bought Vibram Five Fingers and other minimalist shoes. I don't actually run barefoot though. Just like every craze you get idiots that come with it and spout bullshit like this all day. This is my experience with minimalist running.
I used to have shin splints constantly, I don't anymore. I used to have knee problems and swelling, I don't anymore. I run much further than I used to, and I have less and less problems with minimalist shoes. Even wearing a pair of Nikes for a day makes my knee feel sore easily. So that's why I use them...if they work they work, no need for all this preachy bullshit.

I ran sprints years ago ... long before this form came to light. I imagine it would have taken me awhile to get past the creepy feeling of having my toes individually encased [shiver]. I'm intrigued by the concept though. It's good to read that it is working out well for you.

That's the thing...you don't have to wear those silly looking foot shoes. I do but that's cause I'm a dork. I also wear New Balance Zeros, which look like regular shoes but have a zero drop. There's also Merrells barefoot line which I like as well.

I ref soccer to make money, some games I end up running up to 5 miles. That's not a lot for the time I'm out there, but it's back and forth across a hard turf field. For a long time it would hurt my knees something awful, then my shins got into it and I could barely run. Started using zero drop shoes with a barefoot ride and ALL of my problems went away. My knees feel great now.

You don't have to look silly, this may not even work for you. It worked for me because I learned first how to run lightly, than got the shoes to help me remember to run lightly.
