Looks okay but 2 things bug me, one minor the other major...

1. That image they keep showing of the enterprise being built on the surface of the planet... it just makes no sense. Why would you build something like that on the planet surface when it could be built a LOT easier already in space?

2. He sounds NOTHING like kirk... yeah yeah, I know, suspend disbelief. But it just bugs me a LOT. I just can't get over that the kid is supposed to turn into kirk... I think of Ewen McGregor in the SW prequels (which sucked), at least he made SOME sort of effort at sounding vaguely like Kanobi. This actor is just not doing ANYTHING to sound like kirk.

Actually this looks like it was filmed in New Mexico, about a 30 minute drive up 54 from El Paso Texas. I was stationed in El Paso for a few years and have been in this area several times. Its called McGregor Base camp, and another 30-45 minutes from there a place called Oro Grande, where I know for a fact that the US used to station troops during nuclear tests. I say New Mexico, because the opening scene of the convoy driving down the long road with the mountains in the back looks strikingly familiar. That long road is what goes from 54 to McGregor, and that skyline looks very close to what I remember. Of course I could be wrong.

THE SETTING: A Scottish old timer in Scotland, in a bar, talking to a
young man.

Old Man: "Lad, look out there to the field. Do ya see that fence? Look
how well it's built. I built that fence stone by stone with me own two
hands. Piled it for months. But do they call me
McGregor-the-Fence-Builder? Nooo.."

Then the old man gestured at the bar.

"Look here at the bar. Do ya see how smooth and just it is? I planed
that surface down by me own achin' back. I carved that wood with me
own hard labour, for eight days. But do they call me
McGregor-the-Bar-builder? Nooo..."

Then the old man points out the window.

"Eh, Laddy, look out to sea. Do ya see that pier that sretches out as
far as the eye can see? I built that pier with the sweat off me back.
I nailed it board by board. But do they call me
McGregor-the-Pier-Builder? Nooo..."

Then the old man looks around nervously, trying to make sure no one is
paying attention.

As an Air Defender by trade, (PATRIOT) I'm just messing my pants watching this. MTHEL is sweet. As far as i know its gone nowhere. The guys in the system operating it are in 6th ADA Brigade, stationed at Ft. Bliss TX, which means those test were conducted at either McGregor range or White Sands missile range, probably the latter. As far as power requirements, i can't be to sure, but i know our PATRIOT system takes allot of juice to run. Without discloses shit i can't, I'll put it to you this way: When were radiating, (running the radar) if a bird flies in front of it close enough (which isn't all that close) hell cook from the inside out. These kinds of systems take a lot of juice to run, we actually have an electric power plant on the back of a truck just for this the patriot system. The worst part about it is, you cant even run anything else off of that source cuz its 400hz.

I could never get into this movie, something about seeing Ewan McGregor swimming around in the worst toilet in Scotland previously.

Wow, Ewan McGregor cannot sing to save his life. You'd almost think that was a robot doing the vocals.

The original theatrical trailer is perhaps better - it contains no footage from the movie but instead has Renton (Ewan McGregor) tied to the train tracks by his friends as a train rapidly approaches!

It's been a long time since I've seen trainspotting, but this clip seems... different... than I remember. Boy, McGregor used to be hot, though, eh?
