Food Channel Contest Time (Food Talk Post)

Lilithia says...

Here is everything my mother remembers about the recipe (and as it turns out, I was wrong about the oatmeal):

Marzipan Coconut Cookies

egg whites
marzipan paste
wheat flour
confectioners' sugar
unsweetened shredded coconut
lemon juice

1. Beat the egg whites until stiff.
2. Combine the other ingredients, then fold in stiff egg whites.
3. Form cookies with a spoon and bake.

The cookies should be golden but still soft.
Optionally, you could add a chocolate glaze to some of the cookies.

She doesn't remember the quantities of the ingredients or the oven temperature. I hope that's okay.

Awesome! I consider marzipan cookies a particularly interesting challenge on accounta you can't take marzipan on a commercial airliner anymore wrapped in aluminum as a carry-on snack...

I'm still trying to get hold of the recipe I talked about in my earlier post. My mom cannot find it, but I hope she'll be able to tell me what ingredients she used. I only know that the cookies had marzipan in them, and probably oatmeal.

I really like to bake, so I can't think of any other cookie recipe I haven't tried to bake after I tasted it.

So I'd like to participate in this contest with these "Marzipan-and-probably-Oatmeal-Cookies" and I promise to tell you the other ingredients, as soon as my mother answers my email.

Ah, khoks was the adult store, I suppose

Yeah I shopped at Kohl's yesterday - I think their pricing is weird, because you pay about half of what the item says... your culture is weird!

Today we went to a kiddie pool with bea's spawn, and I think her evil sisters are coming over tonight to nag me to death. And we're heading off to wal mart to buy hundreds of the same things.

Sodas:
Everything uses high fructose corn syrup instead of sugar - result, america is fat.
Coke is pretty much the same, a bit sweeter here I think, but mostly the same.
Dr. Pepper is pretty sweet, tastes like marzipan.
I tried a sip of bea cherry diet pepsi, I don't think I've ever tasted anything that sweet before.. it was insanely sweet. It can't be any kinds of healthy for anything.
It's pretty hot outside, but we've had an overcast these two days, so it's not really been scorching. Just really humid and warm. Everything has ACs, so inside its always pretty cool, even a bit too cool. I could imagine people getting colds from the rapid temperature switches, coming from 100F outside to freaking 50F inside.

I think I'm pretty in my pretty pink dress when I look in the mirror.

Other than my enormous narcissistic ego, there are many sifters who I'd like to consider friends, or you know as much friends as you can be on a website (that's not adultfriendfinder).

alien_concept is my long lost love, stoved away in her British castle somewhere, and some times when I lean in to the wind, I think I can hear her rocking out to Muse, hair down and horns up. Also she's a terrific sifter and awesome person.

schmawy is a guy I wanna give a hug and buy a beer. He's just so damn friendly - there's gotta be an angle!

I miss UsesProzac, because we were always pretty chummy (we were stalking each other secretly, or not so secretly). I have a feeling she'll be back one day once her spawn arrives, and hopefully she'll be friendlier to her otherwise sworn enemies. (Lord knows mommies are less ferocious than nonnies.. right? Right??)

Which brings me to thepinky, who I'm glad to have around just to stir up some shit and to have an earnest discussion with once in a while. Also, she's the baby, gotta love her.

The norwegian boys, haldaug and ornothoron, with their gum-drop smiles and marzipan houses have been presences on the sift lately.

Their otherwise troll-like kinsman Rasch187 is a huge pillar of the sift and is our resident necromancer, reviving dead videos everywhere. And even if we butt heads once in a while, he great around here.

Peggedbea is a gal with spunk, who says what on her mind - we need more of this in the comments and talks. She's also adorable. And I'm going to visit her in TX this summer, which can only end in tragedy.

The usual suspects, Kronosposeidon, Blankfist and Rottenseed are also impossible to miss around here. They are the easy targets for our thread jacking (and other jacking) jokes, but they are formidable presences around here too. They all give and take a lot of ass gravy, and I would drink a beer with any one of them. John, Heath and Jive Mittens, I salute you.

DFT and issy are always around when miaws are heard. Furries both, I'm sure of it.

arvana's our kind-hearted nature guy. I don't think I've ever seen an angry comment from this dude. I suppose he's become a reasonable adult now that he's cut his hippie hair (yeah, I remember).

Netrunner and mintbbb are also excellent people. NR is our primary source of politico stuffs and mint is all over the place - prolific is a good label.

Oh, Berticus is pretty much identical to myself, which is AWESOME. You all need to learn interests from this man - Arrested Development is the best live-action comedy show on the planet.

I'm forgetting people, but I want to save my Canadian sweetheart for last - NicoleBee is my nerdly counterpart who first really caught my attention, when she tried to summon an elder god on my profile. Those are some serious nerd-points right there, and I would give her my heart, if I didn't know she'd use it for some sort ritual in the Canadian woods. ♥

Marzipan recipe for you:

1 pound of almonds
1 pound of powdered sugar
1/2 - 1 egg white
1 tea spoon of lemon juice

Scald the almonds in boiling water and remove the skin. Grind the almonds into a fine powder. Then grind them a second time together with the powdered sugar. Mix in egg white and lemon juice until it is a solid mass. Now you can shape it into funny shapes, or cover pieces of it with dark chocolate. The former is a great activity for the kids!

What is that putty like substance? Some kind of frosting? Other than the initial cake base, nothing else looks particularly edible to me, just creepy.

I would think the putty like substance is marzipan. This cake is just perfect for atheists who want to express their beliefs by eating babies!

MIT geek nearly shot by airport police for wearing 9V & LEDs (Geek Talk Post)

Marzipan is sweeter than Playdough™-
I have a good bud who worked at a Tile distributor, in the whse...pak and ship. One day as a joke, he gave a box to the UPS man, that was beeping, enclosed, a business card, one that had an LED light and a cell-phone ringing sound when the bi-fold card was opened.....

they both had a laugh as the driver left, and the next day, the driver came back in shock, and grimaced at D., because the harmless package, when heard by one of the loaders the day before at UPS, caused the PNW hub in Portland to shut down completely....this, pre 9/11.

The MIT chick, was a total dumb-ass, and her so-called "art", may have gotten her non-linear ass, killed. The times are paranoid, however unsubstantiated that fear may be, because that type of paranoia fomented by the brokers, is a valuable tool for control.

I not skeert. I not stupid, either.....
