Dear Texas, (Election Talk Post)

dystopianfuturetoday says...

As an aside: If we libs take a look at Bill Clinton through modern eyes, it isn't all that pretty. His death sentence to hundreds of thousands of Serbians was no more acceptable than Bush's adventures in Iraq. I expect more of the same from Hillary. I hate to go all Choggie, but all her talk about 'national security' tonight is a love letter to fascism, pure and simple.

I disagreed when Nader said there was no difference between Gore and Bush. I'm afraid I can't say the same for Clinton and McCain. Feel free to change my mind on this, fellow dems, if you like.

I haven't lost all hope. Obama will still have a decent delegate lead after all of this, regardless of Texas.

(Orange Box Love) Steve Meretzky: The Most Perfect Game

Suicide Scene from Rules of Attraction

K0MMIE says...

Good Call Kronos... I'll post it here and on the description:

The main character of the film (James Van Der Beek of all people) is receiving constant love letters from an anonymous person. When he believes he's found the girl thats doing it he spends all his time pursuing her. When he fails, he goes back to his womanizing ways. The final love note you see in the mailbox is actually her final goodbye letter. She was a person who was seen in every single important moment of the film in a very inconsequential way. (She served lunch to the main character, she watched him from the background, of course this isn't revealed until the end of the film). This video is the final result of a troubled girl who's obsessive affection isn't returned. When I first saw this movie, it was almost entirely forgettable until this happened. Strange that a character with so little screentime would make the most powerful impression during the film.

YUNYU - Lenore's Song

twiddles says...

That's a great video and a great song. Her YouTube profile says this about the song:

"Lenore's Song is Yunyu's most requested song at gigs. It is a reply letter to Edgar Allen Poe's -- 'The Raven'. Writing dead people love letters is Yunyu's idea of romance."

The Atheist Delusion

marr says...

I wrote most of this to karaidl as a private response, keeping to my promise not to fill up the comments with my chatter. However, it seems like it would be okay with most people if I post it publicly, and I want to share these thoughts with you. I discussed my thoughts about his ideas but it was long so I will cut to the chase....

All that said, maybe Adam and Eve didn't exist at all. Whether fictional or not, what's most important is what the story has to say about people. I think what it says, is that at some point, "people" chose to make their own opinions and their own judgements based on what selfishly suited them, knowingly going against "doing the right thing." It's that selfishness that breaks us away from "Love". Ever heard it said, "God is Love"?

You can think about the point of "Adam and Eve" like this: God wants a relationship with you. In a relationship, you can't force someone to want to stay in it with you, right? You might do it physically and threaten their life if they try to leave, but if you did that to a girl, her heart would be running away from you at a million miles an hour even if her body wasn't, right? Soooo - to have a true, intimate relationship you have to give the other person the possibility of leaving. You have to say, "Okay, I accept you into my heart, and I know that by doing so I ALSO have to accept the fact that you can hurt me."

And they did it man. The "Adam and Eve" said, "well okay, we're outta here." And poof! Now there's all this bullshit in the world, because they "broke up" with Love (God).
""

SooooOOOoOoo the point of the Bible is: the relationship that God wants to have with each of you. It's like a box of love letters. God says, "You left me, but I'm still in love with you. Please, please come home."

You can't say soemthing like that in a book of facts, that's how I know the Bible is not all fact-based. That's how I know that people who ignore or discredit the Bible based on this are completely, completely missing the point of why all the books in it were written down for you to read.

The Most Powerful Person in the World

Deano says...

This is Kotaku's writeup;

"Australian machinima artist, Thuyen Nguyen, has put together this terrific little piece called The Most Powerful Person In The World that he refers to as "a love letter to video games." Tired of the negative representation of video games in the media recently, Nguyen decided to create his own counterpoint in the form of this four minute video. Accompanied by a soothing soundtrack by Lackluster, Nguyen manages to compile all his game footage in a manner that recalls something you might see at a high end art museum show on the medium of gaming. Great stuff and well worth a viewing or two."

Given that is it worth an *art tag?

Bob Dylan: "When the Deal Goes Down" w. Scarlett Johansson

maudlin says...

What really gets to me about this video is the way it's filmed as a faux home movie (not video). It's so intimate. Scarlett is playing a woman who is loved by the person filming her, and she looks back at the camera with love. Watching this video is like finding someone else's love letters inside a secondhand book.

Art of the Saber

Anliz says...

Story:

A light saber fight sequence with the flavor of a Hong Kong martial arts action movie. This short is set in a dense forest of an unknown planet, where a young Jedi, eager to fight to help the Revolution, clashes with a Sith Lord in a battle where only one will remain standing. Music by Hans Zimmer, and a monologue extracted from an authentic Civil War love letter written in 1861, help to set the tone for this movie.

This is probably my favorite saber fight out there, simply because they went beyond just putting in a fight and they added an entire good short story with emotion
