DAWN TILL DUSK

BEAUTIFUL SCOTLAND (Highlands / Isle of Skye)

Ashenkase says...

About half of the locations are in Skye, most of the castles and lighthouses are not on Skye. OP has all his sites identified in Google Maps if you click on through to the Youtube page.

Norway accidentally sinks its own warship

noims says...

Reminds me of the old story of the navy vessel on a collision course insisting that the other vessel cede right of way, repeatedly escalating until the final request of "we are a <warship> of the <whoever-you-dont-like> navy; change course or face our wrath" with the response of "we are a lighthouse; your call".

Nice to see art becoming life.

How Scary is the Paranormal Activity VR Game?

entr0py says...

Ah, that's great how every one is afraid of getting hit in the shins by the sliding furniture.

It kind of makes me think that whole vive lighthouse setup is the way to go with VR. I guess I'll just wait until I have a bigger house.

Tested HTC Vive review

RFlagg says...

I think there's a great potential starting to develop. Perhaps a stereo camera in the headset would have helped. The Lighthouses probably would help if they had a more Kinect style thing going on, though perhaps they were trying to minimize how much data is going to the system at this point as they controllers and headset are doing enough on their own. It does seem to be thought out better than the Oculus or Sony plans.

The main advantage I see for this is moving to a Ready Player One sort of world, especially for education.

Outstanding Time-Lapse of a Stellar Explosion From Hubble

Secondary effects like this can actually appear to move faster than light speed.

Imagine if you had an infinitely powerful lantern just a foot across, and a opaque screen around it which exposes only half of the light. and spins once per second, creating... a rotating lighthouse effectively.

Now fly out 1 light year from that. At this distance, the rotating pattern of light and shadow is "moving" at 6.28 light years per second.

Shift change at a French lighthouse

Payback says...

The rock it is on is like, within a couple feet of the surface at low tide.

FUN FACT: This is the same lighthouse that everyone has seen, with the monster wave crashing around the keeper standing in the doorway. Which was a real photo btw, not faked in any way.

How did they ever build that? That's crazy. Does the tide go out enough to allow a small piece of land to poke out or what?

Aw, and I always used to daydream about how nice and relaxing it would be to be a lighthouse keeper when work is stressing me out. This doesn't look relaxing at all. Before all there was to worry about was that ball of electric green slime that would possess keepers every now and again.
