This Place Has Been Amazing, But It's Time To Leave :) (History Talk Post)

gwiz665 says...

I'm sorry to hear that you're leaving. It's a shame, but you gotta do what you gotta do. The door is always open here if/when you feel like coming back here.

Rasch, why don't you just jump off a cliff and leave me alone? I don't understand what really is wrong with you. I can only hope it's cancer, because if I ever wanted to drive anyone away, it would be you.

^I dunno, if that happened I'd end up spending way more time on the sift. As it stands now I just tell my wife I'm close to a cure for male-pattern baldness, and she leaves me alone in the computer room, desperately hoping I don't lose my hair like all my uncles did.

Michael Jackson: Leave Me Alone

alizarin says...

The leave me alone stuff you could empathize with in the 80s..... we was an eccentric child star turned great performer/artist who the press mercilessly and unfairly made fun of. ...until the sleeping with children stuff of the last 90s and beyond. He admitted to sleeping with children, he had an alarm in his bedroom to let him know if anyone was approaching the place he was sleeping with kids. When accused of molesting kids on video he didn't deny it, he just got defensive. I can understand missing a piece of your youth in his passing but he was NOT a good person.

I grew up with his music and was a big fan when I was little. I don't think there'll ever be anybody as great as him promote

F*ck it...we all admit to the fact that when we were "little" we listened to him. If his shit came on the radio at ANY TIME of my life, I'd crank that shit...(except for maybe "Ben", I'd listen to it quietly in a dark room)

Reminds me of the time i was walking around chicago around christmas. People were out shoping and my wife and I were looking at the window displays when some jerk next to me screams "ALL YOU HOMOSEXUALS ARE GOING TO HELL" and starts running down the street with a megaphone.

People who want to hear rhetoric like that already have faux news. Leave me alone.

People like to take credit for their ancestor's "good" things, but refuse to take credit for their sins. For example, D-day... "my grandpa did that! Yeah! He stormed Normandy, sniped an MG-42 crew, and then liberated France. YEAH!!!"

Meanwhile... "Sure my great great grandpa had a few slaves... but that was a long time ago. I had nothing to do with that. Stop blaming me! Damn!!! Leave me alone!"

Either you take credit for all the good and bad things of your forefathers, or you take credit for none of it. I think the latter view is the better way to go.

Libertarian Reluctantly Calls Fire Department (Onion) (Blog Entry by dystopianfuturetoday)

privatisation

It's privatization. Let's not forget where we come from, mister bourgeois Alaskan-European.

Allow me to beat this dead horse. How firefighters are paid is dictated by the community. It's self-governance. If you privatiZe the fire department, I doubt you'd see much change from the current system to be honest.

"Good luck getting them to come, their radios aren't compatible and they use different size hoses."

The radios not being compatible was also a problem during 9-11 when the firefighters couldn't communicate with the police. Those were government firefighters and government police. And, come on, different size hoses?? There are currently two types that everyone uses in the private and public sector. I don't get the whole "government will do it better than the people" mentality. If a community needs something, the community will make it happen.

Now, just leave me alone!

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

It seems to me that the prevailing winds of privatisation have shifted. I don't think each community setting up a private fire department (how are they paid - by the home owner after the fact?) It sounds like a nightmare patchwork of different systems providing different levels of service around the country.

Got a big fire one county over and need more trucks? Good luck getting them to come, their radios aren't compatible and they use different size hoses.

Although I like Ron Paul - VideoSift has helped me to realize that I am not a a Libertarian. It seems to be the idea of "just leave me alone" . Fine if you are an individual, but humans work best in groups.

Never Write Someone Off For Good (Blog Entry by swampgirl)

oxdottir says...

Life's too complex for relationships to be run via bumper-sticker-sized rules. Some people should be run from, some people should be ignored, some people deserve a second chance, and some people don't. Transgressions, toxicity, and tenacity vary.

I recently had a friend from high school get back in touch and I was kind of pleased, but it didn't take much before I remembered why we lost touch in the first place. I will continue to send one-line, friendly but unenthusiastic replies until she calms down and leaves me alone again.

This isn't the rule: in the same month I found two other people from days past who have vastly enriched my life and who I was delighted to find. I've even had people that I wrote off, justifiably, by my lights, come back into my life and have it be the right thing to let them do so (hell--I even paid for part of rehab for them).

And I know, Swampgirl just wanted to remind people to have an open heart and a little tolerance, and yay for that, but a few other people just wanted to remind people that if yer gettin' kicked, you don't need to keep putin' up with it, and yay for that.
