twenty one pilots: Stressed Out (Official video)

RFlagg says...

Greetings to you in Columbus from Canton. Ohio does have a decent rock history beyond just the rock hall... Chrissie Hynde, DEVO, Trent Reznor (technically from PA, but his NIN project started in Cleveland, so I count him as Ohio), Marilyn Manson, and Black Keys just to name ones off the top of my head... John Legend... of course there's also Dean Martin but he's not rock... I know there's more... I was last in Columbus for the 4th of July for the Columbus Crew game that day.

I actually read on some other webernet board that Colbert was singing off-key, but I think he's pretty on-key and even manages a tricky key change. I'm impressed. Especially to hold his own with John legend - who to my ears is a very talented musician - and plays piano in that effortless, beautiful way.

They should win an Emmy for this one.

will.i.am - yes we can

Tofumar says...

Wow. That is maybe the most unique approach to crafting a political song I've ever heard. I mean, when was the last time you heard lyrics composed entirely of lines from stump speeches?

Now, I'll admit to being a huge Obama supporter, so maybe it's more affecting for me than for others. But I'll say this: I think it's more than a small part of Obama's appeal that not only is he great at delivering speeches, he consistently has great speeches to deliver. They tap into all the greatest ideals of America, and make people who've been cynical and downtrodden about our politics for years feel like they can be proud of their country again. In other words, they remind people of what is important about being an American, and what is great about America herself. This is no small thing in an age of bickering and gotcha politics, because hope is no small thing, and it's hope we've been desperately missing for so long.

P.S. John Legend is the man.
