Meet Tomatan, a wearable robot that feeds you tomatoes as yo

newtboy says...

Finally, a hands free tomato feeding device that works while jogging. How did civilization get along before now? I'm so glad that smart people are working hard on the big problems.

Don't Be A Dick, Jamie sez

yes, compared to women, he can go out jogging at night without worries, but more men than women are victims to criminal activities. So, yes, he should be worried as well.

I don't think being an ally means self-hate or blaming other men. It means getting out of the way and supporting better understanding of the issues.

Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trailer

Thumper says...

Anyone remember the commercial that was on the VHS for the original TMNT. This song verse may jog your memory... "Suddenly everyone's looking at me, my mind could be wondering what could it be, they point to the sky and I look up above, and a baseball falls into my glove". I watched that damn movie so much as a kid I can remember the freaking horrible commercials lyrics years after...

320 lb. Man Runs Like A Gazelle

Payback says...

I once tried to sift video of Dick Butkus (6'3", 245lbs, possibly the most feared linebacker ever) grabbing a fumble and then jogging into the end zone from near center field, as offensive tackles bounce harmlessly off his outstretched hand. Sometimes you don't need speed.

Oppressed Majority

I think we have to give them artistic license to show as many examples as possible of the worst it can be, but at the same time it paints a pretty bleak picture where every single "man" acts compulsively and exaggeratedly sexist whenever they're within earshot of a "woman".

I don't like the more subtle aspects either - "men" peeing in alleyways? I've seen women peeing in alleyways and i consider it equally disgusting as men peeing in alleyways. Whoever does it is gross or utterly desperate, and by dint of easier access men are probably more inclined to take the risk of it. This embellishes the misogyny.

The clothing comparisons made is another example - they compare loose fitting shirt and shorts with (for example) skin tight, see through, almost naked stuff. Her dialogue at the end makes me think the author was being quite a bit tongue-in-cheek about that and therefore other bits. Topless jogging? How many would want to do that? Doesn't make good mechanical sense to me and i think you'd find a topless woman walking around my neighbourhood would be shopped in by the women who saw her, not the men.

I think if they're going to try to make a point with the rape scene then they needed to be less tongue-in-cheek with the goofy stuff that i think is added for a level of humour.

And why was it a military base? Because all those "founding fathers" who poured a butt load of money into PT were in danger of losing it all when Seattle got port status instead of us. Those "founding fathers" still had lots of pull in Washington DC, so they got the Fort put here to prop up the local economy. And now it is a State Park -- one of the few that actually doesn't need any tax funds to stay open -- it actually makes a profit.

Plus there are wonderful bunkers to play in. And walks to take through the woods.

Have you ever seen An Officer and a Gentleman, with Richard Gere and Debra Winger? That was filmed here. All the base scenes were filmed at Fort Worden. A couple of years before I got here. You could tell which buildings were used in scenes -- or rather, which SIDES of buildings were used in scenes. They repainted the buildings a pristine white -- if they were in camera view. So the backsides were all peeling and nasty.

That was before the Fort started making money, of course. All the sides of the buildings look nice now.

You can see the Fort at :57, 1:05,1:52 and the iconic 2:06. All a brisk 15 minute walk from my house. Look out my kitchen window, and you can see the tree covered hill that is the Fort. (The jogging scene at :38 is on the other side of the hill - sheer bluffs to the water.)

It is indeed a very neat place. You watch that movie, come over here, and I'll give you a tour, okay?

Fort Worden's history sounds rather intriguing. From blocking fort to training base to juvenile detention facility to vacation housing/museum complex within a century.

Larry David: Assman

chingalera says...

Yah, he yells to Wanda out the window while she's jogging, "I'd recognize that tush anywhere!I'
ll include it in another viddy if this one sinks dead in the pqueue there NJ, I'd have to edit it in another program and then let you sift it though...Get back to ya on that one..There's also the dialogue between Larry and his wife about the incident that would work in there, too-

I wish this clip included the original scene where Larry delivers the line that so upsets Wanda Sykes, heh. Anyway... is the "assman" reference to "Seinfeld" a little too precious and self-indulgent to really work here?

Worst Parking Lot Exit Ever

Looks like by the end the driver understood the concepts a little better. Maybe he/she just needs a couple minutes to jog their memory into accepting muscle memory and not freaking out.

Eye - Optical illusion that causes natural hallucination

islaywombats says...

We probably evolved this trait to help us see the world steadily while running. New studies are suggesting we used to hunt our prey by "persistence hunting," or just jogging after an animal until it falls over from heat exhaustion (most animals can't cool down and move at the same time).

When you're moving steadily for a long period of time, your brain starts to "edit out" the movement, so you can see everything around you clearly. When you stop, your brain is still compensating, thus the effect.

My guess, at least.

Melt Down Motorist

All I can say is that he could have made his point by being less antagonistic. Sometimes people don't know the rules, which is their fault, I know, but she just needed to be told she's on the wrong side, that's all, no need for swearing and name-calling.

I used to jog on the wrong side of the sidewalk, and when I almost ran into a guy jogging, he complained and explained my error, so I learned. I also once saw two bikes hitting each other head on because one of them was on the wrong side.
