I don't have kids yet, but I can attest to being someone who thought the anti-vaxination stance had some validity.
Please don't confuse me for a moron though; I understand the benefits of vaccinations and my perspective was solely formed on distrust from the system, and the initial ties to autism.
A short period of research and introspection and it was clear that, aside from the systemic trust issues, the claims were unwarranted.
Makes me feel like an enigma in the human race. It seems like no one else wants to take the time and re-educate themselves on difficult subjects. Also makes me feel pretty all-right, being an actual human who's capable of that, and isn't just some lame astroturf projection.

The cynic in me really hopes this isn't a really good actor pretending to be a redneck.

Not many people are capable of such a massive paradigm shift late in life. It can make your entire ego crumble and you become a heaping pile of 'What the fuck am I?'

I feel like this is one of the most moving songs humanity has ever produced. I recoiled when I discovered it was some christian nonsense, but with some healthy introspection I couldn't bring myself to hate it just for that (even though I really, really want to!).
If it's good, then it's good.

In the abstract: "Degree of private self-consciousness was unrelated to perspective taking.". Private self-consciousness = tendency towards introspection.

I like this guy's bent, but introspection doesn't necessarily mean self-centered behavior. If we accept that we all are a mish-mash of influences from the world around us, introspection means learning about the world around us.

Outrospection (empathy) is nothing without introspection first.

One will have no perspective to offer others is they do not fully understand how they think or feel themselves about the life they live.

I understand the need to be increasingly empathetic. In fact, I applaud it. However, one must not swing the pendulum so far the other way as to lose sight of one's self.

My uninformed opinion is that I don't think you ever get over something like this, never mind how much therapy you have. Scar tissue and all that. Seems to me that she is coping as best you'd expect given the circumstances.


Her video serves a second purpose, beyond just her personal catharsis. Rape is too common, a sense of solidarity might go some way to helping those victims.

Anyway. I hope she continues to use her channel regardless of whether this rapist unsubs. I'm not sure what legal recourse she'd have there. Still, living well is the best revenge.

I think she revealed a bit too much info in this. Career limiting, off-putting not only to her subscribers, but prospective agents.
With no expertise to draw from, I also dare ponder if this video actually serves his psycho ego beyond the content. He wants reaction and know he still impacts her, and this is a really fulsome response than he could ever have had otherwise, and more than in person, he can watch this over and over knowing she consciously shot this, edited it, and posted it for all to see.

Thinking in such absolutes has never led to anything good. It is a matter of degrees. The serial killer kills because that extreme of a thing is what it takes to feel anything. Without emotions you become passive. I am right about what I wrote. With some introspection on your end you will realize it too. Yeah that is it exactly. He was telling himself and others that they really aren't bad guys because the workers want to be there. This shows that he does have empathy and does care. In regards to Romney's comment -- from my vantage point it sounds more like he was expressing surprised relief that the slave labor factor he had just purchased was actually staffed by willing slave laborers rather than forced slave laborers and this somehow alleviates what ever remote feeling of guilt he might have had. It gave the appearance that either way he was going to work these poor women to the bone, it just made it easier on him now that he knew they were semi willing participants. Obviously this is all conjecture but I'm hard pressed to hear and sympathy or remorse in his voice, it was much more akin to "Did you know these mother fuckers actually WANT to work like this? So in reality we're doing good and turning a profit!" His voice has far more interest in that fact than disgust which is kinda the tipping point for me.
I try to remind myself that this can potentially happen to anyone. He was raised and has lived far away from what would be considered a working mans life and it is hard to feel empathy for someone if you are not able to relate to them or have never been taught it. I think it's pretty evident from his lifestyle that this holds true for him. He's not a bad person because he's evil, but because he's incredibly ignorant.

No. It shows he realizes just how fucking sociopathic his behavior is, and he's trying to sell a "nicer, warmer" image of himself to his audience. He flat out does not care...he'd be just as willing to bleed those women dry, and profit from their blood. Because he's better than they are...they're just peons, and don't count for a thing, just like all of us. We're not him, so we don't count.

Undermining the freedoms of a culture/society through violence or through political manipulation does not change the fact that you are still a device of social segregation.

The point is that there are certain people that are obsessed with trying to exert control over others they perceive to be inferior. I would argue it is out of fear and personal insecurities, which is perhaps a different topic.

Why is this a facet of our species in this day and age? We have the power to perceive and evaluate ourselves and our actions as they affect the people around use. What is it in our society or culture or upbringings that is affecting our lack of introspection so much?

There are some people that are not reaching a basic level of personal enlightenment that are negatively affecting so many around them. I am worried, our destination as a species is not so clear nor bright when I look forward in time.

Contrary to popular belief apart form some minor physical variances, both male and female (hereafter recognized as the human brain) is the same piece of grey matter. Sexuality has nothing to do with mental dysfunction.

Instead a lack of an individuals personal development due to a deflection of introspection tends to lead towards aggressively lashing out at people around them, or social dysfunction.

Another interesting note, the more psychological pressure we experience the more immature we become. With psychological pressure mental maturity regresses. Ever seen a child lash out in a temper tantrum? That can be anyone put under the right pressure. We all snap at some point.

What is causing this pressure for her? Is it family related? Financially instigated? What part does our society play in it? How? Is this affecting a large percentage of the population?
