jon stewart- exploring dick cheneys mind

Ickster says...

If there was any real justice in the world, Dick Cheney would be woken up in the middle of the night, have a black bag shoved over his head, and be subjected to enhanced interrogation for several years before being left for dead.

What an evil fucker.

This article over at Truthout is a rather interesting read, albeit a bit long:

We're riding a global engine of ravenous resource consumption. We all know this can't go on forever, but the thought that it might come to a stop is so terrifying to all of us that most of the time we just want to live in denial.

A bit heavy on the eco-socialism, but a decent read nonetheless.

Also, the interrogation scene you posted convinced me to give Dredd a shot tonight.

▶ Attorney shuts down police stop of black handyman

You should really focus a little more on improving your own critical thinking skills.

She didn't just run outside, nor demonstrate any hatred for cops. She was trying to reason with the first officer who insisted on ignoring her likely solely in the interest of saving face.

It was only after her willful ignorance that the lawyer lady became upset.

Just like your world-class critical thinking skills lead you to believe the cops had a good reason to interrogate the old guy based on him as an individual (and not as just as some black man), you should point your critical thinking in the other direction and determine that the lawyer was upset with the cop as an individual for her specific actions, not just because she's some cop.

With any sliver of critical thinking it's obvious there's no indication the lawyer hates cops, just that she's upset with the actions of this person, who happens to be a cop.

Talk about sounding juvenile.

The bottom line is: the police officers did absolutely nothing wrong. But this lady comes out, she hates cops which tickles your gooseberries and instead of using critical thinking, you let your emotions get the better of you.

Try not to do that, it makes you sound juvenile.

After Hours: Why "Star Wars" is Secretly Racist

Sagemind says...

EV-9D9 was a sadistic Droid who tortured droids for fun, not to actually get information from them. She was a malfunctioning interrogation droid that in malfunction switched to torturing droids instead of humans as she was originally programed.

"EV-9D9 was just one of the malfunctioning EV-series supervisor/interrogator droid abominations created by MerenData and was one of the few droids who escaped capture when the EV-series supervisor/interrogator droid was to be destroyed after owners of the droids found out their cruel nature. While at Cloud City EV-9D9 added to herself a third eye just next to her left eye, which could "see" the droid equivalent of pain, which manifested as jumbled, incoherent signals. She had a pain simulator and a sadomasochistic personality, which was caused by an accidentally installed MDF motivator, taking great pleasure in the pain of droids. "

Jon Stewart's "Rosewater" Trailer

blackoreb says...

Maziar Bahari appeared in a Daily Show segment 10 days before he was arrested. The footage was used against him while he was being interrogated and tortured. Jon Stewart had a personal stake in this particular story.

Also, no one is complaining about your feedback - it is the here-is-an-unrelated-topic-that-I-care-about bit that is cringe worthy.

Love J.S. but I think a film about how Guantanamo has locked up and tortured 86 innocent people for 10 years might be more relevant for a U.S. audience. Yes, 86 prisoners cleared for release, still locked up.

Instead we get a film about how evil Iran is, by an U.S. director

1960s Anti-Gay Lecture For Children

lantern53 says...

We watched a movie in police academy about two young girls who were murdered in Mansfield Ohio. Profilers had determined that the killer was a sexual deviant. The police knew that homosexuals frequented a public bathroom near the city center, so they installed hidden cameras in the men's restroom. We got to watch the results. Men fucking each other in the ass, sucking other men's cocks, it went on all day long. No foreplay, just bend over like you're gettting a drink of water. Quite disturbing. The police then FIR'd (field interrogation report) each of the gay men until the killer was caught. I have no desire to visit Mansfield, Ohio.

Romancing the Drone or "Aerial Citizen Reduction Program"

ChaosEngine says...

@chingalera, I'm not saying there aren't plenty of people with legitimate criticisms of Obama. If all Obama critics were trolls, I'd have to include myself in that. I've said several times on this very site, that I consider him a huge disappointment, even more so because I had high hopes.

Again, I don't think this is a partisan issue. I don't see anyone in the US political scene with what I consider a remotely sensible point of view.

And the "good guys, bad guys" thing was sarcasm... I thought the tone was pretty obvious. And yes, my scenario was entirely hypothetical, that was the point. It's the same fictional "ticking time bomb scenario" that torture, excuse me, "enhanced interrogation" proponents espouse, and I don't buy it there either.

Black Actor lays it out on Jordan Davis murder trial

bareboards2 says...

One thing I read -- a police officer commenting on the interrogation said -- one thing that this asshat and Zimmerman had in common was a deep understanding of the Stand Your Ground Law.

Draw your own conclusions about what this means about premeditation when it comes to "self defense."

The law has gotta go is right.

It is pretty staggering how much damage this "Stand your Ground Law" seems to be doing. It needs to go.
