The New Channel Thread (Sift Talk Post)

great!

"viral" is tricky. some people (joe dirt, and ??) don't want any ads here, but some of the best posts here are old ads, or foreign ads, that aren't really selling anything to anyone. at least, Super Timor's sales last year weren't helped much by youtube.

the way youtube is right now, the label "viral" should really be put on anything that's a self-post (by the youtube poster), which would include all of the legitimate (non-ad) clips (like letterman, or comedy central) that come with a promo for the show. it should also include all the ifilm clips that have a spiderman3 promo glued over them. that's advertising.

the way videosift is right now, some things that deserve to be called "viral" become "viral" in part because of videosift. if a legitimate VS member posts a funny/cute/clever/artsy ad i've never seen before, that's mainly just good videosifting.

if people want to avoid ads, or commercial content (like the CBS clips), what they need is a checkbox filter, like "NSFW", not a channel.
