Doublethanks for the doublepromote
I don't ever remember seeing a motorcycle paramedic in Victoria, but googling suggests they have them in NSW and Victoria:
http://www.abc.net.au/acedayjobs/cooljobs/profiles/s2442994.htm
Seems a bit strange though since I thought paramedics, like surgeons, described motorbike riders as "organ donors"...
Do they have paramedics on motorcycles in most places in the world? We don't have them here. Seems like a good idea.
Police have no CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY to protect YOU!
Here we go with generalizations again.
Let's completely forget the Air Traffic Controller comparison because it's just plain stupid.
http://www.planecrashinfo.com/cause.htm
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_killings_by_law_enforcement_officers_in_the_United_States
Secondly, you've confirmed that cops can and will lie whenever they need to.
The number of "justifiable homicides" is skewed because cops will lie and plant evidence.
e.g. Walter Scott video shows the cop planting his tazer.
(well at least three cops- your buddy, you and slager)
We'll never truly know how many cases like this are covered-up.
So we'll never know how many victims truly "had it coming".
Thirdly, there's a complete difference between a "slip & catch error"..
And "accidentally" choking Eric Garner to death..
Or "accidentally" severing Freddie Grey's spine..
Or "accidentally" shooting Akai Gurley to death in a darkened stairwell that you were NEVER supposed to be in the fucking first place..
Those were NOT "mistakes", they were pure negligence and incompetence.. Full Stop.
Those "occasions" weren't few and far between.. they're monthly, weekly, if not DAILY occurrences.
If you don't like when society labels all LEOs as Bad Cops..
Stop making generalization, Lantern.
Because if anyone on here said:
"the vast major of police & soldiers who get killed had it coming"
You would flip your shit.
Seriously, I'm trying to be civil with you now.
But you keep saying crazy insensitive sociopathic shit.
cops occasionally make mistakes which cost lives, so do air traffic controllers
but the vast majority of people who are killed by cops brought it right on themselves
if you'd like, I would be happy to post example after example

Varoufakis is on stage at an IMK gig in Berlin right now. It was ~40 minutes of old news, really, at least if you've been following the developments over the last couple of months.
The interesting bit is that he's still making a clear commitment to a permanent primary surplus. For a country as devastated as Greece, that's austerity. Some argue that a 5% deficit over 5-10 years would be required to get Greece back on track, Bill Mitchell and Jamie Galbraith even make the case for running a 10% deficit to get some traction.
Since Varoufakis has to be aware that a primary surplus of any size is still contractionary, I wonder what funky accounting voodoo he has in mind to circumvent this contradiction. Just surplus recycling via the EIB? Who knows...
Edit: the ongoing panel discussion is interesting though.
Edit #2: the recording is now up again:
http://www.boeckler.de/veranstaltung_54282.htm (Varoufakis' talk begins at 12:30)
Edit #3: SPON has a piece on it this morning and one of the first comments correctly calls them out on it.

This is an interesting story, from Stockholm city police register of the year 1536, using Runes to protect the name of a (high status) married woman found with someone who was not her husband... about half way down this article:
http://www.jyu.fi/gammalsvenska/runkunskap.htm
Google translate didn't do a very good job, fortunately my reference filled in the details. It was also interesting that the ring above the 'a' in på was off to the right, and not directly above like modern usage.
Is the Universe a Computer Simulation?
The problem of induction has been a well known issue for hundreds of years. The gist of it is, we cannot rationally justify inductive reasoning. The significance of that is that virtually all of our knowledge, including scientific knowledge, is arrived at by inductive reasoning. Here is a good overview of the problem:
https://faculty.unlv.edu/beisecker/Courses/Phi-101/Induction.htm
So, when you say your worldview is designed to show reality, do you have any rational basis for your claim? Even an insane person will make the same claim that you have, so how do you know that you are not one of those? The problem of induction reveals that underlying any knowledge claim there is a series of unprovable assumptions, and that everything, even rationality itself, is subject to change. If you are just a blip on a computer screen somewhere, the whole thing is kind of moot isn't it?
You see my worldview as rigid because you don't appear to believe in absolute truth. Have you ever pondered that the claim "there is no absolute truth" is actually an absolute truth claim? The whole idea of relative truth eats itself at a certain level, but those who believe in only relative truth don't follow the evidence where leads. Aren't you willing to take these ideas to their logical conclusions, newtboy? You're the stubborn type, but not the intellectually incurious type.
I only know what I know because of what God has revealed to me, otherwise I wouldn't know anything. I would say the same thing as most of you do, that "I don't know" is the most rational position to take. That's the position I took before; I have been convinced of the truth because God, through His love and supreme mercy, revealed Himself to me. I don't deserve it, believe that much. It's not because I am so special, it is because of His grace.
What I absolutely believe newtboy, is that He doesn't love you any less than He does me. He didn't truly reveal Himself to me until I was in my 30s. I don't know what He has shown you, but I know He has shown you something. Perhaps you won't put it together until later in life, and there is a reason for that too, although I couldn't tell you what that is. I just know that He loves you the same and is faithful to show you the same kind of revelation that He has to me. If you are truly open to that, if you would want to know the truth regardless of your personal preferences to the contrary, then you won't fail to find out what I've found out; that there is meaning and purpose to life, because you were created on purpose for a reason:
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
The difference being
Pigeons are wildly underrated
The extinct pigeons from North America are the Passenger pigeons which were wiped out in the late 19th Century.
The pigeons kept as pets, which are the same ones used as carrier pigeons, are still quite plentiful.
I still say they're rats with wings.
That said, I've raised rats as pets...so....
I've read before that real homing/carrier pigeons are extinct since WW2 when they were invaluable. Is that not true?
Red Neck trucker says NO to this blonde trying to merge...
A couple of points.
1) several people stated that the truck driver sped up to keep her out. There is no proof of that. There is proof of a decreasing amount of space between the truck and the vehicles ahead of him.
2) The truck in which the video is being shot from appears to be a semi and not a pickup. You can not expect them to speed up or slow down like a passenger car.
3) The vehicles in front of the truck appear to be slowing down due to conditions in front of them, causing the decreased distance between the truck and traffic in front of him.
4) Even though the audio is not that good, there does not appear to be a change in the engine noise to indicate that the truck driver was speeding up to keep her out.
It appears to me that several vehicles in the slow lane saw that there was a semi in front of them that they wanted to avoid. They saw the space in front of the semi in the high speed lane and decided to occupy it. They then passed on the right hand side of the truck.
*warning legal mumbo jumbo*
Straight from the State of Texas Statutes and Legislation web page
http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/TN/htm/TN.545.htm
Sec. 545.001. DEFINITIONS. In this chapter:
(1) "Pass" or "passing" used in reference to a vehicle means to overtake and proceed past another vehicle moving in the same direction as the passing vehicle or to attempt that maneuver.
------------------------------------
Sec. 545.057. PASSING TO THE RIGHT. (a) An operator may pass to the right of another vehicle only if conditions permit safely passing to the right and:
(1) the vehicle being passed is making or about to make a left turn; and
(2) the operator is:
(A) on a highway having unobstructed pavement not occupied by parked vehicles and sufficient width for two or more lines of moving vehicles in each direction; or
(B) on a one-way street or on a roadway having traffic restricted to one direction of movement and the roadway is free from obstructions and wide enough for two or more lines of moving vehicles.
She was passing on the right by their definition and she did it illegally The truck being passed did not meet the requirements to legally allow passing on the right.
Seeing the video and having read the appropriate law that applies in this situation, It is my opinion that the driver of the passenger vehicle was at fault.
Gaza: Why is no-one rebuilding it? BBC News
LOL!!!
So you believe the Israel sponsored site is feeding you the whole truth, huh? They simply don't show you the non-Jewish flag the original inhabitants used and pretend the area was essentially uninhabited before they came along. The entire area was under dispute and barely held together by British might, but inhabited by the people now called Palestinians who had been promised autonomy for fighting the Turks in WW1 (Before WW1 it was held by the Turks). The Jews were nearly 100% immigrants, not natives.

Chinese/Lunar New Year
went to 3 different Chinese New Years dinners this week. Lots of hot pot (aka steamboat). Earlier tonight was the first time we did Yu Sheng (description). It's not well known outside of Singapore & Malaysia, so it's not surprising they didn't mention it.
Spider Infested Apartment
I was thinking more like the common house spider (http://www.uksafari.com/housespiders.htm) hence why they're all sitting around the sofa waiting for the dude to put the TV on!
Those appear to be wolf spiders. I don't think there are any eusocial wolf spiders species, nor any that migrate en masse. They tend to be solitary, yeah? Very atypical behaviour for them.

The US Military uses meters and kilometers.
What did you think something like "we are 2 klicks south of your position" meant?
http://usmilitary.about.com/od/theorderlyroom/f/faqklickdef.htm
About 1.5 MILES. It does say Marine, not British Marine.

Ah, got it. I couldn't find my own photos, but google came to the rescue - here is Lake Colac in its "Colac mudflat" phase a few years ago - http://otway.biz/images/lakecolacdry.jpg
And here's a more normal view after a bit of rain - https://fredodonnellphotography.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/jetties-lake-colac/
The lake's only shallow, so it's prone to drying out completely if there's a drought. It's only happened once in my lifetime that I know of though, although the level does go up and down.
There's a man made lake called Lake Wendouree a few hours north in Ballarat, and
around the time thata few years before lake Colac dried up they had to mow it... and started a fire in the dry grass! It was still mud underneath, so it was a bit hard to put the fire out too, they couldn't get the fire trucks onto itOn the Lake Wendouree fire - http://www.abc.net.au/local/stories/2008/12/31/2457263.htm
Weather map goes crazy live on the air
Steel is a form of iron. Steel melts at about 1300 degrees Celsius (2400 Fahrenheit). It's boiling point is about 3000 C (or 5400 F).
Melting point of steel is around the temps he's talking about. Boiling point is a little higher.

Coca Cola vs Coca Cola Zero - Sugar Test
We will agree to disagree because I'm at work and don't have the time for citations
I'll leave this here though:
http://www.medicaldaily.com/coca-cola-spreads-lies-about-aspartame-and-dangers-artificial-sweetener-311300
Oh, and this:
http://www.rense.com/general33/legal.htm
Damm, I need to get back to work...
The taste is subjective, but the sweeteners are in no way "far worse than sugar".
Coke Zero uses aspartame, and in and of itself, there's nothing wrong with aspartame. There are a bunch of bullshit conspiracy theories around it, but none of them have any solid science behind them.
That said, I don't drink any kind of soft drink anymore. If I'm thirsty, I drink water.
Soft drinks are just empty calories and frankly, if I want a tasty drink, I'll have beer, whiskey or wine. More enjoyable and at least that way I know what I'm drinking is bad for me
