08.23.2011 Earthquake Swaying High-rise Buildings in NYC

FOIA Lawsuits Cause Release of New WTC7 Collapse Video

Duckman33 says...

>> ^Drachen_Jager:

"There were a lot of firsts for the WTC. In all the history of high-rise fires, not one has ever been hit with a plane traveling 500 miles an hour and had its fire proofing removed from its trusses. In all the history of high-rise fires, not one has ever had its steel columns which hold lateral load sheared off by a 767. In all the history of high-rise fires, not one has ever been a building which had its vertical load bearing columns in its core removed by an airliner. For Building 7, in all the history of high-rise fires, not one has ever been left for 6-7 hours with its bottom floors on fire with structural damage from another building collapse."

I see the third steel structure building ever in history to collapse from a fire. 3 buildings in one day, but has never happened before in history. Wonder what the odds of that happening are?

From your link "Debunking 9/11":

"It is impressive that the World Trade Center towers held up as long as they did after being attacked at full speed by Boeing 767 jets, because they were only designed to withstand a crash from the largest plane at the time: the smaller, slower Boeing 707. And according to Robertson, the 707's fuel load was not even considered at the time."

This is actually not entirely true at all. According to this site:
http://911research.wtc7.net/wtc/analysis/design.html

Not only the is size of a Boeing 707 only slightly smaller than a Boeing 767, but it holds only a mere 980 gallons less fuel, and is faster than a 767 by 77MPh.

Also:
"Engineers who participated in the design of the World Trade Center have stated, since the attack, that the Towers were designed to withstand jetliner collisions. For example, Leslie Robertson, who is featured on many documentaries about the attack, said he "designed it for a (Boeing) 707 to hit it." 2 Statements and documents predating the attack indicate that engineers considered the effects of not only of jetliner impacts, but also of ensuing fires."

And:
John Skilling was the head structural engineer for the World Trade Center. In a 1993 interview, Skilling stated that the Towers were designed to withstand the impact and fires resulting from the collision of a large jetliner such as Boeing 707 or Douglas DC-8.

"Our analysis indicated the biggest problem would be the fact that all the fuel (from the airplane) would dump into the building. There would be a horrendous fire. A lot of people would be killed, ... The building structure would still be there."

A white paper released on February 3, 1964 states that the Towers could have withstood impacts of jetliners travelling 600 mph -- a speed greater than the impact speed of either jetliner used on 9/11/01.

"The buildings have been investigated and found to be safe in an assumed collision with a large jet airliner (Boeing 707—DC traveling at 600 miles per hour. Analysis indicates that such collision would result in only local damage which could not cause collapse or substantial damage to the building and would not endanger the lives and safety of occupants not in the immediate area of impact."

Explosive-Free Building Demolition

>> ^Sagemind:

Really folks?
Of course they gutted and prepared the structure to collapse. It's not like they just pulled a wall and it came down.
You can see all the cut marks on the outside walls prior to them "Pulling" it. I'll guarantee the inside walls and the floors had just as much preparation for this.
I'll also guarantee they spent weeks, if not a month or two preparing the building.
The first thing that comes to my mind is who in their right mind would want to prepare the second half of this building while the first half has been rendered structurally inadequate.

As said, the believers will also find a way to believe.

High rise buildings aren't designed to topple sideways into their neighboring buildings in the event of a collapse, they are designed that if the structure fails, they will fall largely into their own footprint. The buildings mass and gravity playing a very large natural role in that.

Tight rope walking across two pillars of stone.

Trancecoach says...

Yeah, that's pretty interesting. You should check out some reflexology.. shit is insane.

this video's interesting because the man's entire body is flexed. He must be limiting, or at least minimizing, any movement of his upper body so thoroughly that every muscle is taut. Can't imagine the kind of stress/workout that this generates, but he could just as easily get it 10 feet off the ground (though not nearly as scenic).

>> ^Enzoblue:

Quick something I learned about balance. Your feet and toes have a lot of movement that is very important for standing/walking balance obviously. The problem is that we wear shoes all the time. With years and years of limiting this movement in our feet, the neural brain maps of our feet tend to gell together into one blob. So much so that we eventually lose that movement and that's why you see old people moving their feet like they're useless stumps.
I remember back in the day they used to always hire native americans for high-rise construction work because they had an insane sense of balance. I always assumed it was some evolutionary trait, but I think now it's because they only wore shoes when they had to, like for school etc, and had great motion in their feet.
So if your balance sucks, start going barefoot. Your brain will reverse the trend and start recognizing the different parts of your feet again. I learned this from a neurology book about Edward Taub.
I also learned that the neural map of your feet is physically adjacent to the neural map of your genital area. This is why chicks dig the toe play. Science rules.

Yeah I'm sure neither of these many times over millionaires aren't worried about the wage-lowering effect of immigration or being passed over because of affirmative action. I'm sure their high-rise apartments and private chauffeurs keep them grounded...

Videosiftifonlyif Newbies (Wildwestshow Talk Post)

choggie says...

"Seems like most newbies that post good stuff doesn't need to be held in the hand all the way... maybe the rest should learn from that."

^(and they tell me I don't know how to construct a sentence!)^^^

Newbies that posted "good stuff" are to be found in that playlist of swampgirl's above-Timing being what it is, y'all may want to check the user's starless "P" status when considering slapping a vote onnit-Some of these folks who lurk and finally post may have bailed when their initial offering was ignored.

Oh and, if tenured users would pull their noses out of each others asses for a spell and would care to peruse the pqueued section of some of the folks who try and try to have their stuff published but find that their tastes are not to the liking of others, you may start to see a pattern.

I am nothing if not tenacious-as to the dedicated tenacity of most folks???...They are energetic enough to "ignore" something they don't like.....hoo-fucking-rah, way to stick to your lazy-ass principles.(Let someone who has something to say that is somewhat conservative??..."Oh, let's rip that buffoon a new one, how 20th century, how gouche!) The place needs more art and music and culture-let others express themselves and stroke a stranger's ego from time to time in the process-I come to the site lately and see the same 23 people thinking that they have something to say ALL THE TIME!!! (this is only evidenced by myself lately in marathon rants, perhaps because the discussions wax inane and the one-liners ya clever monkeys tend to come up with fall like bodies from high-rises!)

My problem with linear thinking is, it makes the place boring and predictable. Isn't anyone else tired of uni-dimensional stick figures posing as people with a clue??

Jesse Ventura Talk About His New Show on Larry King

spawnflagger says...

I love Jesse Ventura, but all these conspiracy theories are questionable in motive. Just because you have a camera crew, doesn't mean that you should be allowed into any building you want. Just because it's "unclassified" doesn't mean it's open to the public. Just because he did demolitions in the SEALS doesn't mean that a high-rise building collapse is going to behave the same as anything he's ever blown up.

I think he's playing it up for ratings, which is ok - the show looks more interesting than 95% of other reality tv shows.

I wonder if he's going to cover the conspiracy of whether or not GlennBeckRapedAndMurderedAYoungGirlIn1990.com ?

Bush Was Warned About Katrina

kronosposeidon says...

Winstonfield, the scope of the damage and need WAS known ahead of time. By now everyone knows of the Aug. 28th National Weather Service bulletin with its dramatic wording:

...DEVASTATING DAMAGE EXPECTED...

.HURRICANE KATRINA...A MOST POWERFUL HURRICANE WITH UNPRECEDENTED
STRENGTH...RIVALING THE INTENSITY OF HURRICANE CAMILLE OF 1969.

MOST OF THE AREA WILL BE UNINHABITABLE FOR WEEKS...PERHAPS LONGER. AT
LEAST ONE HALF OF WELL CONSTRUCTED HOMES WILL HAVE ROOF AND WALL
FAILURE. ALL GABLED ROOFS WILL FAIL...LEAVING THOSE HOMES SEVERELY
DAMAGED OR DESTROYED.

THE MAJORITY OF INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS WILL BECOME NON FUNCTIONAL.
PARTIAL TO COMPLETE WALL AND ROOF FAILURE IS EXPECTED. ALL WOOD
FRAMED LOW RISING APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL BE DESTROYED. CONCRETE
BLOCK LOW RISE APARTMENTS WILL SUSTAIN MAJOR DAMAGE...INCLUDING SOME
WALL AND ROOF FAILURE.

HIGH RISE OFFICE AND APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL SWAY DANGEROUSLY...A
FEW TO THE POINT OF TOTAL COLLAPSE. ALL WINDOWS WILL BLOW OUT.

Furthermore, Bush's emergency declaration did not include any of Louisiana's coastal parishes. The freaking coastal parishes. Jeez, you'd think they want to include those when a freaking hurricane strikes. FEMA chief Michael Brown ("Brownie") lied in his testimony to Congress when he said that Governor Blanco never included those parishes in her request for aid, when she had in fact requested aid for "all the southeastern parishes including the New Orleans Metropolitan area and the mid state Interstate I-49 corridor and northern parishes along the I-20 corridor that are accepting [evacuated citizens]." She made the request on Aug. 27th, two days before Katrina hit.

You yourself state that "No other FEMA effort in a long time needed even a tenth of what New Orleans needed." In other words, Katrina was a crisis of epic proportions. Yet you also claim that disaster relief is primarily a state and local function. So if Katrina was a monster even for the Feds, then how do you expect state and local resources to be able to respond to this epic disaster? That is why we have the federal response, because local resources are easily overwhelmed in crises such as these. And that's how FEMA under Bush failed, because of the shitty response by a shitty boss appointed by a shitty President.

Yes, there is blame to go around, but because of the magnitude of the event it was primarily the Feds' job to take care of things, and they didn't. You don't get to rewrite history like Michael Brown tried to do in order to protect the legacy of your neocon quack of a President.

Overpopulation: The Making of a Myth

Sniper007 says...

OK, lets see if we can all agree on this simple concept:

"Overpopulation" has nothing at all to do with QUANTITY, and has everything to do with QUALITY.

It's not about the number of the people on the planet, it's about how those people BEHAVE. Agreed? For example, earth loving people move out to the country, try to reuse, reduce, recycle everything they touch, they like local farming, etc. Can we all agree that the earth could handle more people who behaved like THAT, as opposed to people who drove hum-vees, eat fast food, worked in a high rise, lived in a ritzy condo, loved foreign wars, drilling for oil, etc.

So talking about the quantity of people on the planet is silly. It's just NOT the problem that needs to be addressed. It's the WAY those people BEHAVE.
