Café allongé - Happy hour

Café allongé - Happy hour

Clip Art Makes My High School Reunion Shit (80s Talk Post)

firefly says...

I attended my class' 20 year reunion back in '05. It consisted of a happy hour at a local bar (I didn't go) and a family picnic the next day. While it was OK and I was able to chat with a couple of folks I actually remembered, I was mostly bored--most of my good friends I hung out in high school weren't in my year. Maybe I should've gone to their reunions instead.
I only recall one classmate death, she had an illness of some sort but I don't remember what it was.

My 25th is coming up in August, I won't bother this time.

Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) "The Trapeze Swinger"

Please remember me happily
By the rosebush laughing
With bruises on my chin
The time when we counted every black car passing

Your house beneath the hill and up until
Someone caught us in the kitchen
With maps, a mountain range, a piggy bank
A vision too removed to mention

But please remember me fondly
I heard from someone you're still pretty
And then they went on to say that the pearly gates
Had some eloquent graffiti

Like 'We'll meet again' and 'Fuck the man'
And 'Tell my mother not to worry'
And angels with their gray handshakes
Were always done in such a hurry

And please remember me at Halloween
Making fools of all the neighbors
Our faces painted white by midnight
We'd forgotten one another

And when the morning came, I was ashamed
Only now it seems so silly
That season left the world and then returned
But now you're lit up by the city

So please remember me mistakenly
In the window of the tallest tower call
Then pass us by but much too high
To see the empty road at happy hour

Gleam and resonate just like the gates
Around the holy kingdom
With words like 'Lost and Found' and 'Don't Look Down'
And 'Someone Save Temptation'

And please remember me as in the dream
We had as rug-burned babies
Among the fallen trees and fast asleep
Aside the lions and the ladies

That called you what you like and even might
Give a gift for your behavior
A fleeting chance to see a trapeze
Swinger high as any savior

But please remember me, my misery
And how it lost me all I wanted
Those dogs that love the rain and chasing trains
The colored birds above their running

In circles 'round the well and where it spells
On the wall behind St. Peter's
So bright on cinder gray and spray paint
'Who the hell can see forever?'

And please remember me seldomly
In the car behind the carnival
My hand between your knees, you turn from me
And said the trapeze act was wonderful

But never meant to last, the clowns that passed
Saw me just come up with anger
When it filled with circus dogs, the parking lot
Had an element of danger

So please remember me, finally
And all my uphill clawing, my dear
But if I make the pearly gates
Do my best to make a drawing

Of God and Lucifer, a boy and girl
An angel kissing on a sinner
A monkey and a man, a marching band
All around the frightened trapeze swingers

Let's make a fine point on the cause of the recession (Money Talk Post)

marinara says...

Here's what the USA policy is trying to prevent:

Each day provides evidence that the US economy is spinning downwards into a debt-deflationary abyss, not dissimilar from that experienced by Japan for 19 years now. An abyss into which is dumped rising and costly debts, falling wages, falling investment, and falling prices, including house-prices (still falling in Japan after 19 years!).

OK OK OK, now Obama is trying to prop up the housing market, to prevent real estate prices from collapsing in a "spiral." I challenge anyone to tell me how many dollars have been spent to keep housing prices up.

I linked the huffpost Ann Pettifor link above, It seems to be the best explanation of our anti-deflation policy. I don't agree with it, but it seems our policy is mostly backed by yelling and shouting and the kind of analysis you could perform on a pub napkin at happy hour.

Anyhow I know this post is crappy but this ain't an correct policy forum nohow.

Proof that governmental stimulus can improve the economy (Science Talk Post)

radx says...

>> ^imstellar28:
2. evidence that government spending can increase demand, both short and long term.

The increase in long term demand by government spending is mostly just a fracture of the short term increase. But providing a long term demand is not the primary objective of a stimulus package.
It's a bandaid and as such only supposed to keep demand from plummeting until the underlying cause of the crisis is fixed. In this case, that would be the availability of credit. How that problem can be fixed is another issue altogether, so I'll ignore it for the moment.

Now, there are problems of government spending as a means to absorb a drop in demand. For instance, it has to be planned properly to be effective and it takes time until the first payments take place. Another issue is the previously mentioned misallocation: if spending increases demand in a particular area beyond available capacities, it will only raise prices (inflation) and not create any additional demand.
Getting the cash to the ones who are most likely to put it into consumption seems like the key, the unemployed come to mind or generally folks receiving social security.

And it has to be done quickly, because ...

>> ^imstellar28:
1. evidence that an output gap is undesirable

... an output gap causes deflation. Dropping demand leads to lower prices, which leads to reduced production, which leads to unused production capacity, which leads to production capacities being liquidized and people getting fired, which leads to a drop in demand ... happy hour!

So, if the drop in demand is not absorbed quickly, production capacities will be lost already and any additional demand through spending could be unsatisfiable. If capacities are to be kept and insolvencies to be avoided, demand has to be created as soon as possible. Any delay will have a multiplying effect on the cost.

So, wouldn't having too much demand, and not enough supply actually be the undesirable condition because then there are food shortages, gas shortages, etc?

Shortages make an increase in production capacity profitable and therefore create jobs. Oversupply makes production less profitable or even unprofitable and causes capacities to be reduced to keep efficiency high.

Now, everything I just wrote might as well be a load of horseshit. I neither have an economic background nor a particular interest in it and I'm limited to a European perspective, which might not be applicable to the USA. So I'm basically talking out of my ass here, hope you don't mind.

Fox Business: Gerald Celente Predicts US Revolution

Trancecoach says...

What's with this “after-the-market-closes” Happy Hour program taking place in a surreal space of unreality (i.e., a bar setting, complete with a bartender and business men with their brewskis in the background, host Rebecca Gomez looking like she’s ready to hook up)?

Southern California Sift-Up? (Sift Talk Post)

LittleRed says...

From the Phoenix area, along for the ride.

I know the Billiards place is 21+ - they mention it on the front page. I assumed the Red Lion was too, since they call themselves a "Beer Garden," and they advertise a Happy Hour. If it's all ages, it'll work.

EDIT: Nevermind; I called. They're a "family restaurant" until 10PM.

What made you join VideoSift? (Sift Talk Post)

snoozedoctor says...

Alright, I'll join the kiss and tell club here. I stumbled upon the Sift totally by chance. I went right down the sifted queue and said to myself, "these are actually interesting!" Then I looked at some of the comments and discussions, and they were intelligent and civil, as opposed to those on RudeTube. As time passed, I began to realize this; every unusual character I've ever met, (and subsequently lost touch with), had come back to life. Erudite, delusional, intellectual, cynic, bawdy, pious, they're all here. All except idiots. Exactly how are those filtered out of the Sift and diverted back to YouTube?

I also recognized this early on; there was an expert here to comment on everything, except..........paging Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Dr. Gupta, Oh....he's busy with all that TV mumbo-jumbo, leaving the Sift without a doc on call. So, I'm filling a niche. And NO, I won't write prescriptions for erectile dysfunction. Just send the spammers your credit card number and they will send you some, along with a "Wishing you were here," card from the French Riviera, or the French Quarter, depending on how deep your pockets are. Which reminds me, I'm with CaptWillard, there should be more chicks here. Can't we have a happy hour? a discount? raffles? something to recruit some more feminine perspective? The ladies that do regularly post are gems. We need to mine some more.

Lastly, politically the Sift leans left like the Tower of Pisa (when viewed from the west). Gunrock, myself, and a few others, are walking around to the other side of the tower to see if it looks any different over there.

The Kronosposeidon Dance!

kronosposeidon says...

I'd like to register a few complaints about this video:

1. Though you might get the wrong impression, I've been drug-free ever since that night. Unless you count booze, smack, ecstasy, and paint thinner. But I'm clean and sober from Tylenol.

2. That was BEFORE I got the hair plugs.

3. The director totally SUCKED! I'm a method actor, goddamnit! I never had a chance to get into my role.

4. You might think jazzercise is easy, but it ain't.

HOWEVER, I will give it this much credit:

1. The gaffer did an excellent job with the lighting. I haven't looked that lean and svelt in years.

2. Even on my worst days, I'm graceful as fuck.

3. Did I mention it was happy hour?

4. Try making big, purposeful strides when YOU have hemorrhoids. Yeah, I'm a fucking trooper.

Any of yooz got a problem wit dat?

VideoSift 3.1 (Sift Talk Post)

Krupo says...

I like a "destroy" invocation which kills the save invocation - I'd like the database to still have the vids available in a general search, just with the save ability nailed down to avoid accidental saves of re-submitted videos.

The reason to have them still available is so you can see how many times a single video died in queue.

Otherwise, excellent suggestion list. Especially happy hour.

VideoSift 3.1 (Sift Talk Post)

kronosposeidon says...

I'd like to commence the whining by whining about your spelling of "whining." Come on dag, you're an American abroad. Don't make us all look like idiots.

I already gave a few suggestions in an earlier Sift talk, so I won't rehash those here. However I have come up with a few more ideas to improve this site:

1. Make the default search include all videos in the Dead Pool. I think that the primary use for the search engine is to look for dupes, so the Dead Pool needs to be included.

2. When an an account is banned, automatically switch the video tags to just "banned" or "redacted", and then lock them out to prevent further changes, rather than allowing them to be switched to "has no dick" or "rapes dead sheep".

3. Create a new invocation called *destroy. I would like for this invocation to only be used:
a. For a video that's already been discarded, and
b. It can only by invoked by the user who originally submitted the video, that way no one else can mess with your discards.

Why have a *destroy invocation? Mainly to remove all the discarded dupes from the system. It cleans things up a bit, and also precludes the possibility of a discarded dupe being * saved by a well-wisher who didn't notice that the video was discarded for being a dupe.

4. Ditch V-Social from the Sweet Sixteen list of approved video hosts. Who really wants to sift a video about a marketing or promotional campaign? And I can't even find where their damn videos are anyway. I'm also inclined to suggest ditching Fora.tv because it also is rarely if ever used, but I do realize that they have some quality content so I'm not going to push hard for that. Possible replacements for either or both of these sites:

- Megavideo
- Funny or Die
- Veoh
- Glumbert
- eBaumsWorld
- Mojoflix
- SuperDeluxe

None of these sites are going anywhere any time soon, so I think they're acceptable.

5. Happy Hour from 5 - 7 pm every day.

That is all.
