EVIL DEAD 2 - ROTOSCOPED!

Looks like Flash, not hand drawing...

"by hand" doesn't mean "on paper". You can draw by hand in Flash using a tablet. Most Flash animation is crap but, to me, it's greatest use is as a digital tool for traditional cel animation (much of this looks like basic frame-by-frame rotoscope drawing animation AKA hand-drawn cel animation traced over live footage.)

Wow, thats so bizzare and really quite insulting. Copyright laws are getting insane. (as if they weren't before, but I didn't think they could get worse.) It seems absolutely ridiculous to me that they wouldn't allow you to bring a Sketchbook to an Art Gallery

I can walk into any art gallery this very minute, take a picture of any of the many works of art walk out and print out pretty reasonable copies of the work. I'm clearly not committing theft since the original stays where it is.

nothing against your argument but I just want to say that there are a lot art galleries who do not allow people to take any sort of picture. Including hand draw copies. I was in the Philadelphia museum of art and they wouldn't let me carry in a sketch book to this one exhibit because of potential "copyright infringement", stupidest thing ever I couldn't sketch my own interpretation of art. haha I really don't know what to make of such a situation...

Senator McCain on Torture at CNN/YouTube debates

Farhad2000 says...

"I hope we can understand, my friends, that life is not 24 and Jack Bauer..."

Scott Horton and Andrew Sullivan comment...

"The moral clarity and vision of McCain’s answer was perfectly balanced by the bankruptcy of Romney’s. In the end, the former Massachusetts governor ducks by saying that he would turn to his ultimate guru for guidance: Cofer Black, the Vice Chair of Blackwater USA. Mr. Black is known for his bravado, including a pledge to the White House that he would send them Osama bin Laden’s head in a box packed with dry ice. But of course it was Mr. Black who failed in efforts to catch bin Laden and other al Qaeda leaders as they disappeared into the caves and ravines of Tora Bora. He moved from that high accomplishment to Blackwater, which is now engulfed in a series of scandals reflecting questionable management practices. Moreover, CIA officers complain that Black’s move to Blackwater entailed the privatization of vital national security relationships for personal profit, another hallmark of abuse in the Bush Administration.

McCain is turning for guidance to American military tradition and ethics. Romey on the other hand draws on Hollywood cartoons and adventurists. It’s quite a difference. And at the moment, it looks like the Republican base will take Chuck Norris over George Washington and Dwight Eisenhower any day.

Among the other candidates in the Republican field, Huckabee is clearly in the process of transforming his position on the torture question. He’s drawing closer to John McCain’s view with each passing debate. I’ll go out on a limb and say we’ll soon see three Republican candidates taking a clear-cut anti-torture position: John McCain, Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee. Not coincidentally, the first two are the Republican candidates who consistently draw the most support from the active-duty military. Huckabee is clearly intent on pitching more effectively to the same community."
- Scott Horton

"It's a defining issue and this was a defining moment. Romney's pathetic and despicable inability to say that he opposes waterboarding and that waterboarding is torture disqualifies him from the presidency, in my view. If we are going to recover from the profound moral disgrace of the Bush-Cheney torture regime, McCain and Paul are the only Republican candidates who should be considered for the job. I just wish McCain had taken on Giuliani as well. But God bless him. And God bless him for insisting that those who refuse to disown torture should actively support withdrawal from the Geneva Conventions. It's the only honest position to take. I saw the man defeated by Cheney and Addington in 2006 come back to fight again. God bless him."

How We Met

Africa Open For Business - As you never seen it before....

theo47 says...

Downvoted for farhad telling all of us what we believe about Africa.

Before watching this, I thought all black people everywhere were lazy and that there was absolutely no business anywhere in Africa! Thanks for setting me straight!

Clearly, these are NOT the people we're talking about when we talk about African poverty.
The ratio of poor communities to communities like this has got to be ridiculous.

Not to mention the fact that this video comes across like a bad business seminar.
Getting Africa to hand-draw all of our animated specials ain't the solution.

IBM: Powers Of Ten (amazing 9 minute science video)

I emailed the Sift to check if I could post this, but got no reply
Actually, you did get a reply, benjee. James mailed you and CC'd me, so I don't know why you wouldn't have gotten it. Odd. : ?

In any case, I don't think it's bad Siftiquette to repost a dead->discarded post. If the original submitter's video has died and the 48 hour window has elapsed, I say feel free to repost it, however, if still within the 48 hour dead window, it'd be friendly (though not required) to profile comment the original submitter the new link.

I love this video. Done in 1977? Anyone know how it was accomplished? Just hand drawings maybe?

Wii - Hand Drawn Revolution

pigeon says...

This video was an entry for a contest to win a Wii. The total time spent was close to 80 hours between drawing and editing on the computer.

From the animator:

"I made this animation over the past month showing different uses for video game characters using the Wiimote. 700 pages is a lot to hand draw. After Effects, Maya, Flash and more were all used to make this happen. Considering I've never done hand animation before I'm quite pleased with the results."
