Krav Maga gun disarm from Human Weapon

xxovercastxx says...

Obviously the gunman would be best off if he was a few feet away, but this one can at least be effective if the gunman is anywhere within arms' reach. I'd think if someone pulls a gun on you in a crowded street, especially if they're trying to do it covertly, they're more likely to be closer to you where the gun is less visible.

I would not point a gun at this guy

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

It's a demo. Fun, but pointless. This would only work if you were being held hostage by a lone gunman/knifeman who is standing within 2 feet of you and they are NOT expecting you to try anything. I guess that might happen sometimes. 99.9% of the time I bet the situation is a little more organic.

Jack Thompson sounds off on NIU shooting

Krupo says...

Yes, DEFINITELY *lies. I was going to say * wtf instead of worldaffairs in the submission I was about to put up, but otherwise, you got it.

I found it via RPS:

"The shooting has thrown everyone - even more than any terrible killing in a high school - because Steven Kazmierczak doesn’t fit into any of the easy stereotypes for those who might usually perform such a crime. From the scraps of information we have, it seems he had recently stopped taking psych meds, and taking into account his actions, would indicate paranoid schizophrenia. Obviously this is speculation. But intriguingly, it’s speculation based on facts, rather than randomly attributing a cause de jour in order to propogate someone’s personal agenda.

The opening question (once we get past the entertaining moment of the anchor accidentally sharing everyone’s wishes):

“What does it tell you about this guy, the suspect, that he’s twenty-seven years old - he’d already graduated - not an 18 year-old, a 17, 18, 19 year-old student currently enrolled?”

Thompson’s reply:

“Well, we find from brain scan studies out of Harvard that if you get started, for example, playing violent video games you can, er, more likely copycat the behaviours in the games.”

The rest of his speech is the usual nonsense and undemonstrable claims about a connection between previous high school shootings and video games, but it’s this first sentence that merits the most attention.

Thompson’s a lawyer, so I’m not going to say he’s lying. But I will say what he says makes no sense in any possible way. Even if there were these “brain scan studies”, how exactly would a functional MRI demonstrate the likelihood of a “copycat” shooting? Is there an animated picture of a little pixel gunman firing a weapon on the scans? It’s gibberish. It’s the sort of woo-woo nonsense you expect to hear from someone trying to explain how their crystals prevent cats from being afraid of ghosts. “Harvard you say?! Gosh, that sounds scientific!” It’s embarrassing.

The most frustrating thing about this man’s escapades is it obfuscates what might be a very serious subject. What if violent videogames could have a negative correlative effect on young people? This is something we would surely like to know, and see studied rationally. People like Thompson (who encourages far greater feelings of violence in me than any “training simulator” like, er, Counter-Strike: Half-Life ever has) stifle this discussion through their sensationalist bullshit.

To conclude, I’d like to transcribe his last sentence.

“One of the things personally disturbing for me dist, including the fact that we have a community now of survivors and victims’ families all across the country like at Perduco who go through the trauma of these type events with the families who are, uh, most immediately hit in this way most recently because they themselves have endured these type situations is the, um… err, the… uh, fact that, you’ve got, um, uhhh, uh, I wrote a, I’m sorry I lost my train of thought, because, uh, but, uh, I wrote a book called Out Of Harm’s Way for a Chicago publisher in which, the, the only chapter they deleted was a fictionalised of, of one of these incidents in which I I said that a kid should walk onto a stage in an audatorium and open fire with a shotgun and they dist they deleted it because it was too disturbing.”

“Campus shooting expert” indeed."

Very Powerful VBIED, Truck Explodes Near Camp Taji, Iraq

jwray makes a sensible point, that combined with a minor teak or two in the guidelines regarding a succinct, semantic description of people dying on film, could make room for this documentation, whoever filmed it, and for what ever reason.

Mr. Zapruder did not stand there in Dealy Plaza with his super 8, hoping for a head shot that would put his family's name in the history books-

These men who died here, knew that it came with the territory, and the event that ended their lives, happened to be caught on film-we can learn from it, like we did from his footage-(oh and by the by, pretty freekin' clear from even THAT distorted only copy of K-man's assination, that one gunman dinna do it-)

Look man, stop all the fuss, and set some rules in stone-and don't use the goddamn word "SNUFF", in order to amend the rule-simple.

So par, guess yer a lone gunman type like so many have sleepily decided to be, because the truth however seemingly unattainable, has yet to see light.....just this dim speculation and "official" "expert" reports......See, like MINK says, you don't know what motivates him in his responses to your tiring reasoning, and you may or may not know what motivates you-that's up to you to figure out-Thanks for coming.....love those posts!!!!

hey. I realize you just left this quick comment not expecting a reply, but... I'm procrastinating, so...

... only the motorcycle and its driver from the point that they're hit by the door on are extremely likely to be cg models. its all of 2 seconds of animation. I stopped short in my comment of theorizing that the stuntmen DID just fall over in the ditch in the film take, and it wasn't dramatic enough for the director. So, as it was a big budget movie, they tried to spice it up, and now it looks very unreal to me.

... actually, it looks like the backseat gunman/guy in the ditch in the end is real throughout, and him getting from the ditch was the only real action before they cg'd a wild ride for the driver (instead of just falling over). I can't see how this could possibly be done with some launching stunt bike, but what do I know.

cheers!

In reply to your comment:
Man, nowadays everyone assumes that everything is cg. The dirtbike certainly doesn't look like cg to me, it just looks rigged so that it would fly around like that. People should realize that cg is expensive stuff, especially if you're going to make it detailed enough to look real. (And the motorcycle in this scene certainly looks detailed enough.) Why waste good budget money on cg when you can rig the cycle to do its thing for much less. I mean, effects experts have been doing it for years and we've all scene stuff a LOT more radical than this that wasn't cg. (Exploding helicopters, crashing trains, demolished buildings.) Granted those things are a bit more expensive, but if they can be done in a convincing manner without cg, then a simple motorcycle flip would be no issue.

The ping-pong ball is a bit more likely, as that trick doesn't look really easy to do, and the cg wouldn't be all that expensive, but again, why even spend money at all? It's just as likely that the actors were able to do it with another effects method, or perhaps even naturally.

Of course, I could be wrong about this, as I don't know the details behind the making of the movie . . .

9/11 Mysteries-Fine Art of Structural Demolitions

DOPPLER-"None of your "points" matter because unless you are a subject expert your opinions mean nothing."
Faith in god, faith in experts, faith in yer fucking shoe, does common sense, and your OWN ability to process data ever come into play?? Experts are so-called, so paid, so what. Give me enough cash and I'll find you a cabal of experts....fuck em!
ZAMNIGHT-"All I see is a tragedy played out over and over with people repeatedly seeking a reason for it. It's almost the denial stage of grieving that finding the towers were demolished, rather than official reasons, changes the fact that they are gone. I do think there's a steaming pile in all of this but I doubt that it is in how the buildings collapsed."

Denial?? Yes. Denial that the possibility exists, is an idiot's wallow. Why label anyone a conspiracy nut, before facts are in? Does it need that cozy and comfortable "OFFICIAL" stamp to ring true or plausible? A nut in this case is someone that does not want to deal with a dynamic, fluid, and ever-changing world.....there are still folks who believe in the fairy tale of "Oswald, the Lone Gunman"...just as there are still men alive who know the truth about what happened. But the supreme omnipotenece of our wonderful country, has locked the files till 2025, when all who would be held responsible, will have led their lives out in full.
This one may be no different....if enough folks like those here who trust in the spin, the diversion, the "EXPERTS", and the false hope, that this country has a chance in hell at lasting another 100 years, clicking along, business as usual....

Our government did not "DO IT", the government is a tool, just like her peoples, in a game bigger than folks want to believe......Truth being stranger than fiction is predictable, moreso now, as we spiral downward...then up...then down....

Just like Wobal Glorming, humans have everything and nothing to do with it at all......Cyclical Phenom. Theo is as frustrated with folks for not copping to the "FACT" of global warming, but all the "FACTOR" are never addressed by the devout.....its a goddamn religion, with devout, and tithers, just like a Southern Baptist congregation....

Solar-what about the blast furnace called the sun?
What about the natural phenom that produces greenhouse gas?

Humans are a drop in the freekin bucket, and humanity has waaaayyyy more to worry about than what he is doing to the physical world......
