10 Awesome Ways To Season Steak

Sarzy says...

Indeed. Grilling is okay, but nothing beats that nice dark brown crust you get when you cook a steak on a properly hot skillet.

What are you talking about? Cooking steak on a skillet is a perfectly good way of cooking it. Most professional chefs will cook it that way.

I LOVE steak, but most of those just look plain gross... And btw, who cooks a steak in a skillet..... A nice porterhouse seasoned with worcestershire and J.R. Madd's Steak Seasoning on a grill is heavenly.

Frozen Steaks vs. Thawed Steaks

Yeah, charcoal grilling makes everything taste better. And the oven step seems like a bit of a faff to me (I want my steak now!), however, I really must give this method a go

We usually grill steaks (charcoal grill - Mr. NetRunner is Mr. Grillmaster, he rocks!). But I usually end up getting a 4-pack from Costco, then having 2, 2 go to the freezer.. And then I never remember to take the ones in the freezer out to thaw in the fridge in time.

The problem is: I have a teeny freezer atm, I really can't do the freezing in a sheet pan before packing it up. Also, we love the 'just grilling on the grill' and not putting anything in the oven. But I WILL try doing it this way, sounds very tempting! Would be great for those rainy days when you really, really wanted steak but it just keeps raining!

Would love to try this sometime. That is by far the most interesting grilling technique I've ever encountered.
Otherwise, absolutely nothing on this earth can match Conrads steak-tips in Norwood MA.

cook out fails!

I learned a few important things from this video:

1) I definitely should pour gas from a can directly onto an open flame.
2) If the gas can catches fire, I should throw it at the nearest wooden structure, such as a gate or house.
3) In order to put out a flame, I should fan it as much as possible.

Or just replace all others with a simple catch-all: Don't ever let a moron man the grill.

When you eat a grilled cheese, do you just do bread and cheese or do you add anything ?

I sometimes put onion slices in or dill pickle. dill pickle is a fucking wicked addition, very much when the bread gets a little dark.

How the Media Failed Women in 2013

Thought of this comment stream when I read this. The last line.

It's been clear to me for decades that men have a rough go of it -- societal expectations and pressures that I would find crushing.

As a feminist/humanist, it has always been clear to me that men have to tackle that on their own. Women have been fighting against societal crap, men have to fight their own fight.

Our fights are different, however. (And we need to hold each other accountable. We need to get up in each other's grill about how we compartmentalize each other, and react to each other from our "lizard brains" -- the non-thinking part. Women do it, too -- example -- as much as I say I like a man to show his feelings, when a man cries, sometimes I recoil instinctively. Operative word -- "instinct". Not reason.)

It doesn't help when someone speaks up about their own problem, and someone else says -- yeah? well? I got it bad too. Shut up!

That isn't going to fix either problems.

If we could talk about how these problems are interrelated, that would be grand, rather than turning it into some kind of competition.
