Why I Left the Left

worm says...

"lashing out while accepting no responsibility" - Sounds exactly like every BLM, OWS, or any other Liberal hate group if you ask me. Talk about being drug into insanity. Besides, show me ONE Tea Party protest where there was ANY violence.. lashing out... Pft There is you face palm moment right there.

And no, true Conservatives are not anti-tax but pro-spending. You just described where the Republican party went, but NOT the Conservative. And yes, I know exactly what I stand for.

So I guess I can say every Liberal I've met is as racist and hate-filled as BLM, OWS, and militant Feminist groups. That makes it true since I posted it on the internet... *rolls eyes*

And if you want to talk about party base and abject stupidity, there are GOBS of examples of videos showing the complete ignorance of students on college campuses and protesters at some of these big Liberal events.

Seems to me like the typical Liberal has no idea what he is protesting other than they were told that something was bad and they should be mad about it, and the Professor said they could skip class if they go too! Oh, and can't forget all the PAID "professional" protesters.

newtboy said:

No, the teabaggers invaded the republicans and took them mostly far right but really deep into insanity, where they aren't right or left, just angry and lashing out while accepting no responsibility for their parts in problems. They are anti tax, but pro spending, anti big government unless it's a government project they support, then big government is what's needed every time, anti regulation unless it's a regulation against something they dislike (like abortion, relaxing drug policies, marriage, equal protection under the law, etc).

Every teabagger I've met (and there are many) has been at least as if not more racist, homophobic, and bible thumping than the media makes the 'party' out to be, including (sadly) many of my own family members. They are not the fringe, they are the base, you're either lying or don't know your own group. They are also just as dumb and/or stupid as they are portrayed, my favorite slogan is "keep your government hands off my medicare", clearly the woman carrying it was so dumb she didn't understand that medicare is a government program, just like 1/2 of you don't know that the ACA is Obamacare, but HATED Obamacare with a passion while insisting the ACA is great. Not racist? Then what? Just brain dead? It's this disconnect from reality and sanity that made me run from them as soon as it was clear where the party was going....it didn't start out like it ended up, it started out more like OWS.

Haven't you been the one saying all left wingers are in perfect alignment with SJWs recently....repeatedly and smugly? Yes...that was you.

*facepalm

Stephen Fry on Meeting God

newtboy says...

He would be surprised to find himself there, certainly, but 'gob smacked'? ...only if god smacked him right in the gob. ;-)
Some people are not terrified by the unexpected/unknown (and I think that should be part of the test people must pass to become cops, btw), and some don't simply cower when faced with authority/power.

Your supposition that all people would be completely 'gob smacked' to face 'god' seemingly denies what most Christians believe, that you can 'defend' your life/actions/choices to god to get into heaven...like it's an American style court case, not just divine judgment.

I think many would be impressed by the awesome power 'he' wields, and more surprised by the fact that 'he' exists at all, but still completely disappointed with the lack of forethought/responsibility/caring/love/or empathy shown in the wielding of that immense power, and they might say so clearly. Fry always seemed like that kind of 'not shy' guy to me.

The idea that if Stephen Fry were standing before the pearly gates and had something to say to God...that's pretty laughable right there. He'd be shaking in his keds, just like anyone else.

And not because God is vengeful...God, as a conscious Being, who put the whole of creation into motion...anyone would be gobsmacked, to use Stephen's vernacular.

Doug Stanhope on The Ridiculous Royal Wedding

FlowersInHisHair says...

I'm no monarchist. But you're tilting at windmills. The symbolism you speak of is dead, because everyone knows how ridiculous they are. The government treats them with disdain and are always cleaning up after one of them goes gobbing off. The constitutional veto that the Queen nominally has, for example, would be impossible for her to exercise.

The British tourism industry is based almost entirely on the history of the Royal family and the USP is that we still have one - they're not just figures from history, we have, as Mr Stanhope points out, the genuine article still in residence. It's a zoo.

A New Twist on Fast Food ADS vs. REALITY

yellowc says...

It's clear you have never tried this form of employment?

I was a checkout person once, at the start I wanted to top the fastest average scan list they released every week, I took pride in knowing all the veggie/fruit codes for quick weighing, I pre-scanned the belt to see how I was going to pack the bags and what room I would have to put things aside etc

That lasted a little while, until my soul was drained from my body, my back started to ache quicker and quicker, my feet got blisters and one inconsiderate asshole customer after another made my day a little shittier with their stupid inane behaviour. Do you know how your fucking eggs got delivered to the store? They're going to be fine.

Well then I realised why the women working full-time was slow, didn't give a flying fuck about where she packed things and couldn't be damned learning the code for bananas. It simply didn't matter in the slightest, you're all coming back for your shitty groceries week after week, I'm getting paid all the same and my shitty day isn't going to go faster being happy than it is being miserable.

That effect only lasts 1-2 hours, no matter your attitude, packing shit for 8hrs is going to get stale. Packing shit for 8hrs a few times a week or every day, well you're constantly thinking "Would I get fired if I punched this guy? Maybe, I think I can make a solid case."

I could craft you a nice burger all the time or I can just slap together some shit your gonna shove down your greasy gob anyway. How much do I get paid again? Oh yeah, fuck all.

Bradley Manning goes to trial

Confucius says...

I'll try a point by point and then I'll probably lose track.

-I wouldn't say courage. I would say naivety (the two are confused alot....maybe you need one for the other...idk). He was used by wiki-leaks and the gang as a suicide bomber and now he will be raped in jail for the rest of his life...and nothing will change except that wiki-leaks gained notoriety. I bet he would take it back if he could.

-He was and is a traitor to his country (it's sad because I get the feeling he didn't fully understand what he was doing...prob. blinded by wiki leaks and gang). You don't release gobs of state secrets like that. Why couldn't he just release the helicopter video or other choice things? (still bad even then).

-He was a soldier. He swore an oath. Anyone even remotely connected to the military understands what I'm getting at. If he wanted to be a champion of truth he shouldn't have gone into the military. Become a reporter, a politician. There are plenty of more legitimate (effectiveness aside) ways to do what he did.

-The concept of total transparency as applied to states is stupid. Every state since the beginning of time has functioned because of its ability to have secrets. Try it on an individual level....go around 1 day and tell everyone everything.

-You talk about the absolute hypocrisy of this administration? Every administration in the history of mankind (excluding Camelot, the Magic Kingdom, and/or Castle Greyskull) to a greater or lesser has done the same thing. To think otherwise is naive. Thats how States function....by not telling, lets say, North Korea that we dropped off patriot missiles in Japan or that we have a secret agreement to to attack them with China should anything happen.

-Am I saying that we should be able to hush up the deaths of innocent civilians and etc......no. I'm just saying that there are more responsible ways to ensure that stuff like that doesn't happen.

FOX explains $4 gas when Bush was president

My wife drives a hybrid and pays $60 a month filling up her tank twice a month.
My advice to you sirs, is to get a hybrid and LEASE it for 3 years. If you lease it, then, yes, you're not building equity with the car, but it alleviates the biggest complaint about hybrid cars: replacing the battery means you'll negate any savings on gas.
When her lease is up, we simply roll it over into another lease, with another 3 year warranty (which covers the battery during those three years as well).
WIN!

As far as your complaint goes, I think you're reasoning for leasing is inherently flawed.
The rate of failure for Honda's hybrid battery: 0.002% of cars ever sold.
The rate of failure for Toyota's hybrid battery: 0.003% of cars ever sold.
It just doesn't happen.
Moreover, in Toyota, the warranty covers any hybrid battery failure for 100,000 miles (in CA it's 150,000 miles) and the cost of replacement (if that should occur) has dropped to under $3000.

Before we start pointing the "inherently flawed" finger around, maybe you should get your own ducks in a row.
First off, the numbers that they use in the source you cited are skewed. They used the numbers of batteries that failed out of warranty and compared that with the total cars made (as opposed to the total failures out of warranty) makes fapping motion
Second, there seem to be gobs of people on the site you cited (heh homonyms) that have had battery problems:

You do realize that car companies can create fake identities and post them. Hell the oil companies probably pay for a service that does this. I'm sorry but a bunch of links to ONE SITE isn't going to prove a fucking thing. You should be smarter than that.

The Mouth Of Sauron

FlowersInHisHair says...

Cool maybe, but very different from the book though, where he's not a silly demon with a big gob but a human ambassador for Sauron.

As it is in the film, it's worth remembering that while the audience knows Frodo is still alive, his friends there at the gate have no idea. So there is still some emotional weight.

If the guy wants justice, why not file charges against the woman? He has gobs of evidence. Throwing someone to the mob isn't justice.

This would have been a really dumb video if he just had the car parked sideways in the street, because we'd all assume it was just some entitled piece of shit that felt they could do as they please. Even if they could have identified her or he if posted her info and said that was her car......people wouldn't have reacted.

They basically came out and confirmed that they were entitled pieces of shit, removing any and all doubt. She and her husband threatened the guy, after obviously violating traffic laws doing something most people would never consider doing.

The guy on the receiving end of their threats is not "throwing them to the mob" by posting the evidence of those threats in a public forum. If people react extremely to evidence of those actions, it's not the victims fault.

This falls under the "all choices have consequences, known and unknown" category. Lady could have let the authorities tow her car, never exposing her identity to the guy filming the vehicle......paid the fines and guy would probably have never identified her. She could have just driven off and decided that parking across the street blocking traffic flow probably wasn't a very smart thing to do. But she got out and confronted the guy, like HE was doing something wrong.

While this is not as severe a crime, it's akin to blaming the rape victim for pointing a finger at the rapist after they've gotten their evidence.....because the rapist might suffer hardship for being identified and all the evidence confirms he did it. The video tape, assuming it's not doctored leaves no doubt as to what the crimes being committed were, by whom, and how far they were willing to go to keep their accuser quiet (at least on video, who knows what they did to him before, after, or will do).

It's really not anyone's job to help people hide their bad behavior from the public eye, whether it's illegal or not.
