Upvote for the Gershwin brothers and Gene Kelly. Love them.

This music takes me back to the mid-'80s. I was around 17 then, and it was when I first started seriously listening to music outside of the rock and pop genres. I latched on to Gershwin early on because I was spellbound by "Rhapsody In Blue". This piece is another of my favorites, along with "Violin Piece". I need to see if a video exists for that one.

kronosposeidon (and anyone else), you might be interested in the original '27 recording of R in B that's available on archive.org (http://www.archive.org/details/rhapblue11924) with Gershwin himself on piano. It's quite different, much looser and jazzier, than this and other renditions. It was a revelation to me.

Great find. That is a beautiful set design. My biggest complaint is that they didn't play the full 16 minute version of Gershwin's masterpiece. That's one of my favorite musical pieces from that era, and every single note is pure genius. It still got my upvote, of course. Scenes from movies like these are *obscure classics.

Sound quality is not great, but Upvote for Ella. Ms. Fitzgerald is the greatest female vocalist in recorded history. Add Duke Ellington piano and performing a Gershwin song... man this is American music... everything after is just derivitive.

Gershwin rocks my socks.
