Upvote for the Geraldine metaphor. I think I shall invoke it elsewhere.

CDC's Julie Gerberding Admits Vaccines can Trigger Autisim
Geraldine Dawson, PhD, Chief Science Officer, Autism Speaks. July, 2009:
It remains scientifically plausible that the challenge to the immune system resulting from a vaccine (or other immunological challenges) could, in susceptible individuals, have adverse consequences for the developing brain. Evidence does not support the theory that vaccines are causing an autism epidemic. However, it is plausible that specific genetic or medical factors that are present in a small minority of individuals might lead to an adverse response to a vaccine and trigger the onset of autism symptoms.

The View Gets Heated Over Sarah Palin
>> ^Xax:

I mean to be the first woman on the presidential ticket... Hillary must be going crazy right now!
She's actually the second VP candidate in U.S. history. The first one was Geraldine Ferraro.
Oops, my bad. And an italian-american VP candidate at that, how embarrassing for me.

Sarah Palin on Being Vice President
Aceofclubs hit it on the head. She's anti-abortion (which really means she's a traitor to her gender), a shill for the gun lobby (which I can't imagine any sane mother being), and as Crosswords pointed out, she's got a safe face (apologies to Geraldine Ferraro). She's going to be little more than a talking head that the Neo-con base can feel good about.
While Biden was chosen to counter that Obama lacks Foreign Policy experience, Palin was chosen because she's not really going to do ANYTHING as VP except make McCain look good. That's WHY no one has told her just what the VP actually is supposed to do: Cast a Tie-Breaker vote in the Senate. That's all the VP really did (up until Cheney decided to re-write that part of the Constitution.)
I can't imagine why former Clinton supporters would go for this. It'd be like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Unless they're really that stupid anyway (cough* http://www.videosift.com/video/Chris-Matthews-Battles-Full-On-PUMA-Inanity *cough)...
Obama Thread. (Election Talk Post)

I read on the internet that he's a secret muslim, whose Pastor is a reverse racist who wants to enslave white people, ally with Iran, ban the pledge of allegience, unpatriotically eschew wearing the required flag lapel-pin, and raise my taxes.
I heard from his fellow Democratic senator Hillary Clinton that he's an elitist, who doesn't understand the concerns of working Americans, hard working Americans, white Americans, that he's a misogynist who's heckled Geraldine Ferraro for telling it like it is (that he's only winning because he's black!) He disenfranchised the people of Michigan and Florida by not agreeing to let Hillary have all the delegates from both states.
Some Abe Simpson impersonator told me that somehow, people are being fooled by this proponent of failed policies of the past, when a 71 year-old white guy is clearly embracing policies of the future, like winning in Iraq, and giving everyone a well-deserved capital gains tax cut, while dismantling silly government programs like the EPA, FDA, and the quaint Bill of Rights.
You can keep your Tiger Woods, I want Ron Paul! Down with the CFR!
smack
Actually, I think he's going to usher in a sweeping change in public opinion, the way Ronald Reagan did. The country will realize that from the conservative point of view, Bush was the most successful conservative yet at implementing conservative ideology, and the crushing failures of the country are a direct result of those policies (and the ones Clinton acquiesced to in the 90's, like NAFTA, telecomm deregulation, and a huge capital gains tax cut).
Obama can draw in vast new segments of people disillusioned with the Bush years, and speak to them about liberal values and policies in a persuasive way I've never seen someone do before.
I think he'll be able to build a coalition of support to actually start addressing the problems our country faces with the economy, foreign policy, health care, infrastructure, and the environment.
Most of his past work has been in the realm of ethics reform, and governmental transparency. He's talked about forcing the health care companies to negotiate with him while in front of C-SPAN TV cameras -- something like that would be truly remarkable.
He won't be afraid to be painted as a "liberal" (as if that's a bad thing), or to fight for what he believes in because he knows that he's on the right side of the issues, and can explain why...
I think it'll be an amazing thing to see.
I had so many sarcastic responses lined up for this tripe, my brain overloaded, and I had visions of Hillary as Vice President.

Randi Rhodes Makes Chickenhawk Stew Out of Ben Ferguson
I remember when this happened. It's too bad that Randi Rhodes disgraced herself by calling Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton "big fucking whores". Among all the things that a person can say, I can certainly think of many worse things, such as Rush Limbaugh questioning Michael J. Fox's Parkinson's disease and calling Janet Reno "shakes" for having the same condition, but it's still not good to resort to vulgar ad homs when you can do so much better than that.
Keith Olbermann Special Comment May 14th, 2008
>> ^Fedquip:
Keith is awesome. He's probably thinking his rants will soon be ending so he's getting them in while he can.
Why? It's not like the Republicans will go away, even if they're slaughtered in November.
He's also aimed a few at Democrats, too (like Geraldine Ferraro, Hillary Clinton, and the whole Democratic caucus).
Just like Stewart and Colbert won't cease to be funny, simply because there isn't a murderous, corrupt moron in the White House.
Less theraputic, perhaps, but I won't mind not needing the therapy in the first place.
Hillary Clinton Sings National Anthem
When I hear that voice, a Geraldine Ferraro redux, I can understand why Bill sought entertainment in other venues.
The National Anthem is a lame song, despite what it stands for; it's difficult to sing, the lyrics require "work" to remember, and it was written by a guy named Francis.
"God Bless America" would be a much better Anthem. I've emailed the ACLU to see if they'll back me on this...
