An actual smoke screen (smoke curtain)
Would have been laid by a fleet's float planes or limited basic carrier aircraft (like---very basic, pre WW II) to mask your own ships under scenarios such as 1) A turn away from an enemy fleet that had concentrated its salvoed big gun fire successfully against you, perhaps by crossing your "T" (1/2 your guns agains all of his--run away!) or 2) to mask the approach of your surface torpedo carriers, the destroyers and destroyer escorts, to close as fast as possible on the enemy's battle line before popping through the curtain and firing some of their torpedoes before popping back into cover and moving to another location and then firing more torpedoes (torpedoes were the ship killers of the small ships of the fleet and the only thing battleships had to fear from destroyers and destroyer escorts/torpedo boats)
Would be curious to know what this was generally used for and if it was used often.
In The Cockpit, Landing A 737 In Strong Winds Looks Insane
Yep,
This is a difficult landing and there are tonnes of corrections happening, but you would see the same type of corrections on any landing (just not as many).
And it doesn't matter the size of the plane either. I have been in a float plane multiple times and the same type of corrections happen on landing with that aircraft.
Take offs are mostly a breeze. Get your speed, pull up and and you are on your way. Landings are what those guys are paid for.
I'm pretty sure there's lag between the controls and the surfaces.

Didn't battleships, carrying airplanes, do this in WWII?
They used extendable catapults to launch float planes abeam and cranes to retrieve them after landing.
How Float Plane takes off without water
Flying's such a huge part of life there of course you know there's no way to get around it. Very tragic. And since I have a close relative there I'm always concerned. One thing: I'm always puzzled why nobody has come up with an effective retractable or retract/inflatable pontoon. Those things are worse than wire struts as far as drag is concerned. It's like a freaking flying pontoon boat. I've tried to fly model float planes and they are the worst ever.

I wasn't even there and I have to wipe now.
Are you certain those two things are related?

Um, 'scuse me -- sorry to be a bother, but the long, straight sticky-out thing atop your plane appears to have broken off. You might want to secure that with some duck tape or strap downs or something. I also think you can't land there because there's grass and not a landing strip. Uh, yeah, I'm pretty sure of that.
What's with the sudden mass-usage of these sorts of comments lately? I think i missed where it started from. The first one i read was about a broken camera, it was quite funny:
"In my humble, world renowned opinion, it might have something to do with one of the plastic or metal parts on your light recording machine. I am fairly certain of this. try moving around one of the parts, or using a piece of metal to fix another piece of metal. That should work. Your Friend, Internet Engineer"

Srsly you must be from the 3rd world or something to have never seen something like this.

Holy crap is right.
It is a testament to the gentleman's intestinal fortitude that he is nearly killed by a prop-plane and the resulting audio remains SFW (and the resulting video in-frame).
...Or is it something more sinister? therealblankman posits that the Beaver might not be firing on all cylinders. Perhaps the videographer was prepared to use SFW language (thereby ensuring a wider viewing audience) because he had sabotaged the plane beforehand.
