formula 1 transport jumping a formula 1 race car

oritteropo says...

According to EMC, it wasn't as bad as it looks, they say it

cracked couple of the axles and busted the oil pan but was actually drive-able after! The go-pros under the trailer survived impact - in behind scenes you can see the F1 pass underneath and then the shower of sparks from the oil pan impact

That truck is done now. Not transporting anything anymore.
I noticed at least the drive shaft falling out, I'm sure other things broke. There were a lot of little pieces flying off when he landed. Yoinks!

Hey it's F1. They'll just print more money and buy another!

Now that I have had a chance to compare the Arrows F1 vid to the other ones from 2012 (and it does say at the start that the one I posted is from 2012... oops) there are other 2001 Arrows A22 out there, I found one of several owned by the Woodcock Brothers and driven by Michael Woodcock at Monza (http://youtu.be/VVBuTMCpIeE). It does have different liverie to this one though, with Woodcock on the side. They did once manage to get two cars going and had two Woodcock brothers in a Boss event at Hockenheim.

Even better though, I found another vid of this car at Zolder, and the info on that vid says:

model: Arrows A22
production year: 2001
driver: Arnold Wagner (GER)
engine: Asiatech 3.0l V10
chassis: A22 - 07
track: Circuit Zolder
date: 2012-08-16

John Cleese on Stupidity

ChaosEngine says...

The Dunning Kruger effect relates to peoples inability to assess their competence at a task they are already doing.

You might correctly assume that you can't speak Japanese or perform surgery, but once you start learning either, you will almost certainly overestimate your own ability early on.

The other thing that's important to note is that it doesn't necessarily relate to stupidity but competence. Stupidity is inherent, competence is learned. As you become more competent with a skill, you are better able to accurately rate your own ability.

In other words, even smart people will tend to overestimate their abilities until they know better.

For example, I've been aware of this phenomenon for nearly a decade. I've never driven a race car. Intellectually, I know that I'm not the next Senna in disguise, but even then I will catch myself looking at F1 or even the muppets on Top Gear and thinking "I could do that".

What? That's not stupidity, that's delusion. I've known some people who are really stupid, but they're still not gonna go "Japanese? Yeah, I guess I could speak that... Calculus? Probably something I know how to do." There are some really dumb, incompetent, humble people out there, who assume they can't do much of anything, and some smart, overconfident people who think that whatever other people are good at, is probably easy. It's not related to their level of competence, but to whatever bullshit the world has told them about their own relative ability.

VKV City Racing 2014

It's a free demonstration event rather than an actual race, but the whole point is watching the cars (including F1 cars) and plenty of tyre smoke. It costs €77,50 (for adults, or €47,50 for children) to sit in one of the grandstands, but there is a free section as well.

I so don't get it. I have to assume they are somehow acknowledging/thanking the fans with this type of display(as i often see them do as the winner of a race).

Coulthard on team orders

Well, that's a useful and well though out comment.

Racing is what makes F1 interesting, and quite frankly, this kind of bullshit is exactly why it's viewership is declining.

I used to be a huge F1 fan. I've actually been to two grand prix (Hungarian and German) and even I don't really watch it anymore.

Strategy is what makes F1 more interesting to watch than other sports, which are typically just a bunch of sweaty morons running around on a lawn.

Team orders have always been a good thing and people who don't like them are intellectually and morally subhuman.

It would have been a scandal in F1 too if it had come out at the time instead of 17 years later This sort of cooperation between competing teams has been speculated on over the years, but this is the first time I can recall it actually being confirmed by someone involved.

What makes an agreement between two teams to not each other get in each others way not race fixing. In any other sport shit like that this would surely be a scandal.

For open wheel racing, Indycar is where it's at these days IMO. Since they changed to the DW-12 chassis, lost the stupid blocking rules and brought in some new talent and sponsors, the racing has been fantastic. Unfortunately, I don't care for oval racing, but it looks like its weighing even more towards road and street courses next year.

I wouldn't want F1 to become a spec series, but they need to do something to either make the racing closer or the technology development more interesting. The WEC has been the most interesting development series lately. It's guaranteed that Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault would never allow it, but opening up the engine regulations to allow more freedom could bring in other manufacturers itching to show off their hybrid technology as something sexy and powerful.
