No Man's Sky on Late Show with Stephen Colbert
They may have ditched some arrogance, but they're still talking about this as though it is procedurally generated. This game is not procedurally generated in the sense that most people consider the use of the term. You could better describe it as 'over-reliance on randomization in place of design'. It doesn't help that they've deferred the rest of their game design to player participation, instead of actually constructing a game.
At least they seem to have stepped back a bit from some of their earliest hype where they were talking up their use of procedural generation...
Rocket II Trike - Jay Leno's Garage
This Leno fellow seems like a natural host. He should ditch the 'vlog' format and give TV a shot.
Nuclear energy is awesome
First up, it's not 500 million years. Nuclear waste (typically Plutonium 239) has a half life of around 24000 years, an eyeblink geologically. Even if it wouldn't be too flash for life as we know it for a while, the planet will be fine, and life will recover.
But yeah, there are undeniably problems with nuclear energy, which are addressed in the related video (http://videosift.com/video/Nuclear-energy-is-terrible).
We have essentially 3 choices:
1: ditch our energy rich lifestyle and go back to an agrarian economy with no cars, internet or whatever. This also means ditching lots of really nice stuff, like medical technology (drugs and MRI machines don't grow from pixie dust). Pretty unlikely, IMO.
2: Accept that the eco-system is basically fucked and learn to live with climate change. Depressingly, this is probably the most likely scenario.
3: Invest heavily into other energy sources. And, like it or not, that's got to include some form of nuclear. Renewable (solar, wind, tide) etc, will help, but they won't cover all of our energy needs and they have their own problems. So ideally, it's fusion, but practically, thorium seems the next best bet.
This is absurd. Current pollution could wipe out our speices and maybe all the animals... but the planet would survive and could replenish. Cover the place in radiation for 500 million years and its screwed.
I'm not against new forms like the end of the video talks about but sticking the nuke drug into the problem with the hopes that maybe someday we will have a treatment is a stupid crack pipe dream.

Driver Speeds Past School Bus Almost Hits Three Kids
The driver drove into the ditch to get to the curb lane to pass the bus and nearly hit the kids. So they driver here was extra duchy. Bad enough to pass the bus at all, but they made an effort at 45 mph to pass the bus fully the wrong way.
A news report about it: http://www.king5.com/story/news/crime/2015/04/27/suv-school-bus-video/26460861/
I'm confused... was that not a footpath?
Interstellar - Honest Trailers
Spoilers do follow:
What bugged me most was that as a last ditch attempt to save humanity, the NASA successors in the film decided to spend all their time and resources on sending first scouts, then hopefully colonists through an unprecedented wormhole, in the hopes that a suitably survivable planet might be found on the other side. To judge by the film, a lifeless, icy waste without a breathable atmosphere was considered a decent candidate.
So against that background, we come back from the wormhole to a city-sized space station, complete with lawns and baseball.
Why all the trouble? With that level of tech apparently within reasonable reach, why not at least consider colonizing a planet in our own solar system? Why risk everything on a complete unknown?
Shell Station Toilet- 5 Michelin Stars
Completely counter-intuitive, but, on average, this amount of effort usually comes back in less actual cleanup work required. People go in thinking that they're in someone's home, not a glorified ditch. It takes a colossal douchebag to mess something like that up.
The Newsroom's Take On Global Warming-Fact Checked
My hope is that this will take the form of progressive revolutions. When the food and energy start to become scarce people might start to recognise that the ONLY people who can get us out of this mess are engineers, inventors and scientists.
Maybe we will even be smart enough to put them in charge and ditch the whole idea of politics for the sake of politics all together.
A man can hope anyway. The alternative seems to be extreme left and right wing movements fighting over metaphorical ash and bones.
Co2, methane and other undesirables in the atmosphere could probably be shifted if there was a concerted global effort, doubly so if we factor in 50-100 years of technological advancement. I'm sure the task would be herculean but it would probably also be the greatest thing we ever achieved as a species! ("screw your ancient wonders, we built an air scrubber the size of Missouri!")
I had a thought about global warming the other day. At what point does the survival of the human species become more important than the democratic process? When is it ok to just say ....fuck it ..your voice doesn`t count in that matter?
Perhaps someday countries will go to war over the amount of co2 each other blasts into the atmosphere..
Imagine emerging economies being told not to burn fossil fuels for the sake of everyone.. little unfair but still necessary..right?
Cameron's Conference Rap
Fair enough, I should have expected to be laid in to for expressing a political opinion. Fair play to you -- It is the internet, after all
I spend quite a bit of time in the north and like it there, but most of my time is in the midlands so I'm not going to pretend to know what it's like to live there permanently. The only 2 Scots (only 1 of which could vote due to living there) that I'm in touch with regularly both supported staying unified but are looking forward to the greater powers that Scotland deserve and will get.
The difference between the parties, at least in England, seems pretty minimal to me. Blair didn't seem any better (or worse really, other than ditching the gold reserves all in one go at a rather low price) than Cameron.
What sentiment? Cameron has hammered the poor and needy of this country, sold off the post office to his chummies at half price, raised tuition fees (thanks very much Clegg) and nearly ripped Great Britain apart. Fortunately he knew the right people to oil up and got major banks and businesses to pull out in the few days prior to the vote, scaring people into saying no.
Every single scot i've spoken to (and i speak to loads, my mum lives there) has said that they would let the north come with them if they could and they only want to leave because Westminster and the south are completely disconnected from the rest of the country. It's a different world, and the people running the system have absolutely no experience what life is like for the people that have to use it.
Even John Major came out and said that there are too many (something like 80%) rich background public schoolboys in government. Can you tell me with a straight face that you've been to places like Blackpool near where i live, had to use the buses or queue for unemployment, or had family members suffering with disabilities and/or cancer, and then tell me that you think people like Call-Me-Dave in any way represent their best interests or understand their problems, struggling day to day?
I don't want to sound aggressive, but i do have experience with things like that, and some people in this country are getting to the point of desperation but of course that kinda thing doesn't get on the national news and the majority remain oblivious. If we don't see significant democratic reform in this country, i predict a significant social uprising within a lifetime.
Jon Stewart Goes After NFL over Ray Rice
I'm with you on this one. I haven't been following it either. My whole take on this is, why does it fall on his employer to punish him and why isn't he in jail? I can understand his team and sponsors ditching him not wanting to be associated with a wife beater, but if it was just some burger flipper at McDonald's that nobody knew, would anyone be pressuring McDonald's to fire or suspend an employee for doing the same?
I haven't followed this too closely, but I at least partially disagree with Stewart here:...
Cops Owned By Legal Gun Owner

....'moronic miscreant'-Check a fucking mirror, douchebag.
(For all you late-comers, the pricks' baiting me daily as I continue to hope-against-hope for the dick to cop to a discussion, rather than a dick-battle.)
Again, fuck off, chicco, your shits' transparent and tiresome and about as 8th-grade cock-bag as it gets...
Rather, some moronic miscreant transforms a simple encounter into felony charges by spewing Its baboon red butt out of Its filth drooling mouth and then persistently but characteristically blames and vilifies the system that far more often than not, but not enough, protects people from....
Obviously...Its still here to spew Its insipid...
Insipid...word of the day...brought to us by Swirlry
self-balancing electric motorcycle
how about making it have three wheels and ditch the giro!
Beautiful Tornado Bears Down On A Trailer Park
And, everything I said was wrong according to Iowa State. The truck is a bad idea (though again, this is assuming close proximity to the tornado). The thing to do is to get in a ditch. Prayer probably couldn't hurt either. You never know.
Then again, a tornado can pick up a person at least as easily as it can pick up a car, ditch or no ditch. I suppose people prone in a ditch have far less drag than a car though.
http://www.public.iastate.edu/~atmos/tornado_safety_rules.html
Interesting article. The bit about basements in brick houses is interesting (possibility the house will collapse in on you, which would suck). I'll keep that in mind because I live in a brick house. Of course, there has also never been a tornado here in recorded history.
Wanna race?
Very lucky the trailer didnt start to swerve and transport him and the Nissan into a ditch.
Very irresponsible.
