Baffled by Stupidity: Richard Dawkins
Reminds me of that too, but the religious person is the student that doesn't understand reality.
For it to be the other way around, Dawkins being the student, you must change the analogy to :
'the teacher prayed over his cold hands asking big daddy to warm them, then prayed over his tea asking big daddy to cool it, and because he's in a room warmer than his hands, but colder than his tea, offers the temperature changes as indisputable proof that big daddy listens and follows directions. The student leaves in disgust, as the teacher and big daddy do nothing, yet the teacher claims a 'proven', invisible, all powerful hand of big daddy does his bidding.' Just because you feel like you understand it, doesn't mean you're feeling is valid or true.
The really sad thing is that some can't fathom any meaning in life beyond their own silly beliefs in magic. That's so incredibly sad for them and damaging for us all.

Baffled by Stupidity: Richard Dawkins
This reminds me of the story of the student and the teacher. It is cold, and the teacher blows on his hands. The student asks why...teacher says he is trying to warm his hands.
When the teacher blows on his cup of tea, the student asks why...teacher says it is to cool the tea.
The student leaves in disgust, as the teacher does the same act for two opposite reactions.
Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean it is invalid or untrue.
It is sad that Dawkins, if he is right about his atheism, lived a life with no meaning. One brief candle in the darkness, extinguished and forgotten in the vast eternity of the universe. How sad.

The Jesus myth isn't one taken seriously by many scholars. Even Richard Dawkins admitted that Jesus is a historical figure.
The Lord Of The Rings was written by a real person, who was eye witness to many actual events and also a professor, lexicographer, and scholar.
The bible is a fantasy novel of various myths complied by a pagan emperor as a political tool to consolidate power.

Bill Nye makes fun of Neil deGrasse Tyson's reply to Dawkins
Tyson's only interesting statement before Nye spoke was to suggest Dawkins' question was wrong, or at least premature as he wonders, "...whether there is no such thing as consciousness at all".
It is a silly suggestion because we all agree we experience consciousness, therefore, de facto, it exists, as an experience. The question is why we have the experience, not whether we have it. This conclusion that experience of consciousness might not exist is what Nye was reacting to because Tyson hadn't said anything yet about where our understanding of it might come from.
After Nye's comment, Tyson says our understanding of consciousness might come from some place altogether unexpected. Most answers to the big questions do. That's why they're big questions. So to a scientist, that's an unremarkable statement, not worthy of comment. But you can't go from there to, "asking why is a bad question". Tyson's analogy with the procession of Mercury was a bad one because nobody suggested that perhaps Mercury's procession didn't appear out of whack. It did. People only asked why it did.
In saying that it's possible the 'answer of consciousness' could come from somewhere completely unexpected, or unrelated, to what people are thinking now. Like the example he gave where it took something completely new (General Relativity) to explain Mercury.
It seemed pretty self-explanatory in the video.

Love Letters to Richard Dawkins
I loved those soundboards as a kid! I pranked a few close friends with great results but never got the gusto to call a food place or anything. I also remember whilst working as an assistant manager at a Domino's pizza one of the high school girl hires came to me because a customer was acting funny on the phone and when I took the call it was a pranker using a Jack Black soundboard, I called them our right away and they hung up. Now I wish I would have played along and become an infamous recording from that era!
A Dawkins soundboard would be flippin' amazing!
We need one of those Flash sound boards from this video (and the last one they referenced). Anyone remember those Arnold prank calls? These sound bites would top those for sure.

Dawkins is the Fart of God!!
Love Letters to Richard Dawkins
Dawkins can be a dick about some things ("mild rape", etc), but I've only ever seen him be courteous to his opponents even in the face of overwhelming stupidity. He's blunt, sure, but he's never rude.
I think if there was a well funded organisation that was dedicated to promoting complete and utter bullshit that was contrary to my life's work, I would probably have less patience with religious nutter than Dawkins.
Besides, we NEED an attack dog. Just because he does an unpleasant job doesn't mean the job doesn't need doing. He's responsible for raising the visibility of atheism globally and that can only be a good thing IMO.
Dawkins is the worst spokesperson for pro-science/rational thought I've seen in my life. Guy is an offensive self-righteous asshole, and the educated/scientific community can do far better in finding someone to represent the benefits of education and/or anti-zealotry.

For that we have NDT. Dawkins is for those times when an abrasive asshole is what's called for, and there are all too many of those times. He's not really a good 'spokesperson', but he's a great slobbering bulldog.

Oh, and Dawkins saying "Hi, Faggot" has to be my next message tone.
