The Terrifying Truth of Childhood Technology Addiction

EMPIRE says...

Books, radio, movies, comics, tv, computers, videogames, internet, social networks, etc... etc ad nauseam.

You know what I find truly terrifying? The absolute inability some people have to learn through history and their absolute ability to choose their own childhood (no matter what generation it is) as the pinnacle of a "proper" childhood.

Confederate Flag Parade in Georgia. Wait for it....

Sagemind says...

Lets be honest.
Most of didn't know anything about the flag when we were kids.
We all knew it as the flag that was on the roof of the Duke boy's car.
We thought it was cool, becuase it symbolized the General Lee "CAR" Don't forget the horn blast.( https://youtu.be/zAKksqKR3pI )

As we got older, we started to learn more about the flag, and what it represented.
But it's hard to let go of the happy childhood memories of watching the Dukes of Hazard every week and loving the car and the flag. And that is part of what stands in the way of us seeing what the flag symbolizes.
For most of us, we've imprinted a new meaning on the flag, so we don't always see it at a hate flag.

For those who view the swastika, we don't always see the symbol of peace it was for decades before the Nazi's appropriated it. We now only see it for the hate that redefined it.

Just some interesting thoughts....

Edit: I'm not defending the flag and it's use.
I don't celebrate tradition for tradition's sake - I think that's a poor excuse for flying the flag. It does represent bigotry in the Southern States, anyone who says otherwise is a liar.
I'm up in Canada, very detached from the bigotry down there, to me, it's the flag that was on the Duke's car.

CRS-6 First Stage landing attempt

Payback says...

One of my fondest memories of childhood was finding an arcade unit that was set to free games...

We'd set it on high difficulty, where you could spin the lander over on it's head, and have competitions seeing how fast you could get it going before impact.

@billpayer
you are proceeding from a false premise.
nobody is singling you nor your video out for suppression.
which many here have tried to point out to you.
quite politely i might add,but you insist on some weird conspiracy.

do you identify with a video so much that a downvote is somehow directly related to how that sifter perceives you? and that by downvoting they are suppressing your right to free speech and making a social commentary simultaneously?

dude...you need to think this through, because you are coming across extremely paranoid.

Weird Al and a Group of Autistic Kids Sing "Yoda"...

Tingles says...

*quality

Yoda was my favorite childhood song, I had no idea it had been based on a song called Lola back then. It didn't matter, was 9yrs old. Vancouver, 1994'ish, went to a Weird Al Concert (hoping for this song) with my parents at the Queen Elizabeth Theater and he played almost everything except...(Yoda). . Then encore, says "this is a song about a little green man" The entire audience of kids lose their minds and he sings Yoda as his last song. He probably repeated the chorus 15 times.

Amazing how this random shit sticks with you. I am damn happy this ridiculous song is still bringing happiness and doing good things 20+ years after it did good for me.

His Slide Technique Could Use Some Work

Stormsinger says...

I'd usually agree with you, but some childhood accidents/events are just going to happen (and from a developmental standpoint, probably -need- to happen). At least in this case, he wasn't hitting anything hard enough to do any actual damage. He wasn't even crying, just rubbing his head and looking confused.

In my experience every older brother has smacked the back of a younger brother's head harder than this. Which could be argued to be worse, being intentional rather than accidental.

This makes me mad and upset because I imagine that happening to either of my sons and it hurts to imagine feeling so helpless to do anything to save him from his head banging against the sides like that, and I hate that the dad's reaction was to just continue standing there recording, saying nothing, and laughing to himself at the child.

I mean fuck.

poolcleaner says...

Oh, them? They retired and got a nice cottage in the woods They still have gorgeous wolves that protect them and they just LIVE off the land, you know.

Certainly no one gets DECAPITATED... Or... DECAPITATED WITH THEIR CHILDHOOD PET'S HEAD STAKED ONTO THEIR LIFELESS CORPSE.

Just happy in the woods. Singing songs from the Disney movie Frozen. Authors with "R.R." getting double penetrated in the middle of their name like happy places and happy things. Happy trails. That's how they roll, those double dicked R.R.s.
