Tom Hardy "StarTrek" screentest vs actual scene

artician says...

Nemesis was an embarrassment. Primarily because whoever wrote the screenplay (I believe Brent Spiner had a lot of influence on it or even wrote it himself), they wanted to recreate the Wrath of Khan for TNG era. It was completely, obviously a failed attempt to harken back to the blockbuster day of Star Trek film, and was so amateurishly crafted that it was obviously a thinly veiled rewrite of ST2's plot in a TNG skin. You did well to avoid it.

Well, that's the fascinating thing about me, Yogi. I can recognize that someone has flaws and STILL like them. Amazing, n'est ce pas?

I always felt like "what's Ricky Gervais doing in this group?" Not that Gervais isn't funny but he hasn't exactly accrued the same stand-up gravitas as a Seinfeld or a Rock or a C.K.

I agree but he addresses that at one point and that's a great thing. Also I think it was his idea, his show.
Yeah I looked it up, Gervais Ink. his production company produced this special. I think they need like 40 more, even if it was just rehashing constantly I would watch all of them over and over.

I didn't realize that Gervais produced this show (which I have seen) but now that I do, I think he has an inferiority complex much like his David Brent character. Instead of injecting himself into the discussion and making it weird by over-reacting to everything (the above clip is a terrific example) he should have excused himself and inserted, I dunno, Louis Black. I think Black would have had a solid point of view on the topic. Or how about a woman?

Jeez did you not like Ricky Gervais that much? He was fine, I love this special, Ricky did nothing to make it bad. Also I know it sounds bad but I can't think of a woman comic that can keep up with these guys. That's probably due to my ignorance though.

What do you do for work ? (Talks Talk Post)

gorgonheap says...

I wake up and walk myself through the 12 steps to control my sift addiction. (Which I kept under control for years until just now). I just finished another college degree and I'm looking for a new career. In the mean time I do freelance design work (mostly Autocad 3ds max) for various clients. I walk about 15 steps to my in-laws basement every morning. The first hour of work I spend wishing I could find a permanent enough job to get out of this place (even though it's been a week). Then I work my butt off applying for jobs or finishing client projects. Eventually I become distracted and play those internet flash games for a while until I realize some profound truth (i.e. The Dave Mathews Band really does suck, or how much I really would like to see Brent Spiner take a leading role in a non-Star Trek movie.) I prefer to spend the evenings with my beautiful wife and 2.5 children.

I'd forgotten just how intrusive laugh tracks were back then... and how slow things went.

Yeah, it's hard to imagine that the laugh tracks were once worse than they are now. Still, Night Court always felt a bit like a stage production to me - just a few sets, small cast, etc. The laugh track almost, ...almost, fits.
