Holy Smokes, Chartbeat is Goooood! (Sift Talk Post)

Wow that API is pretty slick. With like 20 seconds of regex text editting I was able to grab the last 100 pages accessed. I could even grep for /search/ or whatever.

Susan Boyle - Singer - Britains Got Talent 2009

It's easy to be cynical, but at the end of the day this is a lady who got up in front of a nation and sung her heart out. Living her dream.
Kudos to her. The audience reaction is just a side effect.

I see your point, but I daresay the audience reaction is a rather large portion of that dream of hers she lived out.

Had she gotten up there and heard nothing but crickets when she was done I'd think her dream would have been more killed than lived.

As endearing as this was, it was kinda weird how they were all outta their seats and cheering madly the second she started. I think they were getting impatient for another Paul Potts type.

You're fucking joking ain't you?

The moment she started singing my hairs stood on end. Coupled with the fact that EVERYONE was thinking "who the fuck is this weirdo?" 10 quid says no one will think that again, specially when she's all dolled up by professional fashion/makeup dudez.

Apparently she's 47, lives on her own with her cat, never been kissed, and the children mock her in the street. I could think of no one more deserving.

And what's more is, by the way she was walking off the stage, it's clear that was the best thing she's ever done, ever. The most amazing moment of her life and i'm so happy for her.

Edit: The sound quality is shit, it's selling her voice short.

Perhaps it's because the audience has the emotional and mental breadth and depth of a thimble.

Evgeni Nabokov with the Save of the Year

kagenin says...

That's Nabby, alright. There's a good reason why the Sharks currently have the best record in the league, the best home record in the league (most home wins, fewest losses in regulation, an astounding 31-3-4), are currently 2rd in Goals Allowed all season(188, Boston leads that stat with 180), and were the first team to clinch their division this season. They've set a team record for playoff points accumulated(111), and there's still 6 more games left to play. No other team has 50 wins, and only 4 other teams are capable of hitting that this late in the season. And on special teams, they've been juggernauts - ranked third in both Power Play goals, and Penalty Killing. They're also ranked 6th when it comes to Even Strength goals.

With arguably the most dominant line in Hockey today (Joe Thornton, Devon Setoguchi, and Captain Patty Marleau, 91 goals among them), the Sharks are going to be the team to beat come post-season. Nabby has 39 wins under his belt, and his backup, Brian Boucher, has put up some pretty great numbers in his 11 wins. Sharks have been making great moves all season - acquiring Rob Blake and Dan Boyle added Stanley Cup-experienced veterans on the Blue Line, and they've been solid.

This has been a storybook season for the Sharks. I'm hoping the story doesn't end before the Stanley Cup makes its way to San Jose for the very first time.

Slumdog Millionaire - M.I.A. - Paper Planes (DFA Remix)

I love how in 2007 almost nobody could see Danny Boyle's Sunshine in theatres because it only showed up on 50 screens for one weekend, and then in 2008 everyone is totally swinging from his nuts!
FWIW I think Sunshine is one of the best space movies ever!

I did get a chance to see Sunshine in theater, and thought it was quite good. Also own it on dvd now.

Another movie I saw in theater, despite zero advertisement/promos, was Equilibrium, which was awesome. (stars Christian Bale before he was in the batman series... not sure if he was a male-diva at that point in his career. Two thumbs up for any movie where Taye Diggs gets his face cut off )

And yes, I liked MIA's original paper airplanes since long before this movie, and the version they used in the movie (krupo pointed out) was fine too, I just don't like this remix. To each their own opinion.

Hamas using UN ambulances as troop carriers

Irishman says...

Yes, it is a spectacularly inefficient genocide, it is known as "slow motion genocide" and it is the same thing that happened in Darfur. It has been going on for decades. I first heard it described as this 8 or 9 years ago.

In 1998 an expert in international law called Francis Boyle told the Palestinian president to start legal proceedings against Israel in the international courts and in the Hague for breaching the Genocide Convention.

Israel has breached almost all of the 150 odd articles of the Geneva Rights Convention and committed crimes against humanity under the Nuremberg Charter - all confirmed and on record at the UN.

So if we're going to take Hamas to task on their ambulances then let's go, and unless we want to be branded as hypocrites then we'll want the Israeli government in the Hague and behind bars for their decades of war crimes against the Palestinian people as well.

And if we want to talk about Hamas' charter which calls for the destruction of Israel, then let's talk about it:

In 2006 Ismail Haniyeh became Hamas prime minister. He offered the Bush administration a truce in return for an end to the illegal Israeli occupation. He was completely ignored.

The last truce that was brokered by Egypt was broken by Israel - they sent in the IDF and wiped out 6 Hamas members. Both sides called for peace even after this, but the IDF continued hostilities.

I cannot in good conscience condemn Hamas for using medical vehicles for troops because I know too much about the sickening war crimes that have been committed by Israel against them for decades.

Zombies - Braiinns - I Mean...Yoooogaaa?!

dystopianfuturetoday says...

I think it's great. I'm happy to see a growing concern for both mental and physical well being in the Zombie community. These Zombies would have been laughed at by Romero era Zombies, and even the cardio-obsessed Boyle era Zombies showed little interest in a higher consciousness. If this trend keeps up, we might even start to see vegetarian Zombies, which would certainly put my brain at ease.
