Skilled driver gets er done

The bobcat didn't know I was there... For almost a minute.

Nevermind. I checked out some pictures of some young Lynx and this does fit the description and the video. Amazing to see one that young. I know Bobcats here in Idaho and the surrounding areas are so few and far between. Sightings are rare.

For some reason when I first saw this beautiful animal the term Ocelot came to mind. Bobcats, at least here in Idaho are much more bulky and furry as are Lynx. I know Ocelots are found more south of the US but dang, that still doesn't look like a Lynx to me.

Can anyone confirm what this guy actually is?

I now realise that some of the comments above were describing Canadian Lynx (Lynx canadensis) as "Lynx" even though Bobcat (Lynx Rufus) is also a Lynx and so is Lynx Lynx (Eurasian Lynx).

All the pictures of the Canadian Lynx that I had previously seen were ones with their shaggy winter coat that makes them look like they're wearing pyjamas (http://goo.gl/zlJUS5) But anyway, I agree with you that it ticks off all the bobcat signifiers. It's also a long way from Canada or Alaska.

Pretty sure it's a bobcat though they are easy to confuse.

I reference this http://travel4wildlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/lyx-vs-bobcat2.jpg

Specifically I'm thinking: short tufts, visible spots, and rear legs & hips similar length to front and most significantly longer tail. (Lynx barely has enough tail to swish unlike this chap)

To my eye you can tick off all the main bobcat signifiers here anyway.

Edit: Lynx Rufus is a Bobcat! (should have read further before commenting DOH!)

Tags: AirportKate44? Not bobcat, or nature, or stillness, or anything actually relevant. There's not even an airport in the video(!). Sifters are getting lazy, and it detracts from the website imo.

chingalera says...

SO uh....mom probably did abandon it or thought it fine, if it had been in any real danger of predators chances are good there aren't toooo many black bear
bobcat, lynx, cougar, or coyote in Hudson NY, river town (har)...smallish, quaint, lotta antique shops...cops with terse tones t'wards defenseless animals (probably bullied in school, hope he doesn't have kids). Why call animal control, free the little guy and let him loose back into the food chain, he/she looked fine innit?? Not like it was frikkin' choking on those xmas lights.

A bobcat showing his <3.

newtboy says...

I feel pretty old after expecting the bobcat to have a < 3" hard-on and not realizing that " <3 " meant 'love' and not less than 3...pretty old and a little perverted. D'oh
Side note: does this mean the kid belongs to that bobcat now? It seemed to be marking him as territory...I was waiting for the turn around and spray part.
