here's more detailed information about industry in California specifically, looks like it's been growing steady for a while.

Also, note the sharp uptick in government spending starting ~2014 -current numbers late 2018

That spending doesn't account for all of the growth, but there's a parallel growth happening in the "All industry total" category, defined as - "The All industry total includes all Private industries and Government."

I still think you're a russian troll making the rounds.

News Anchor Responds to Viewer Email Calling Her "Fat"

scannex says...

Edgeman, eating causes the release dopamine among other things. The clinical depression is a result of doing less of something your brain likes doing. Fat cells themselves also upregulate chemicals that increase the desire to eat, perpetuating the problem.
You however are citing the Solution to a problem AS the problem. (the problem beaing: eating as a key necessary trigger of hapiness in the individual). The solution, getting your weight under control is not what needs to be avoided here.

Again, this parallels perfectly to smoking. People become irritable/depressed/despondent if they fail, if they try and quit that behavior too. However, we still encourage people to stop smoking.
It is important that they stop for their health, and it, in terms of those in the public eye is a meaningful thing to avoid as a rolemodel.

Again, they are not depressed by weightloss, they are depressed by failing to partake in the dangerous/excessive behavior that causes pleasure. This neuro/chemical imbalance is something we have remedies for. Thanks Pharma!

In reply to this comment by peggedbea:
hey lucky,
we were just discussing this in the lounge and i was asked to run it past you:
there are quite a few talented artists on the sift.... so we were thinking about some kind of gallery days for vs artists to display their arts for all of sift-kind to marvel at and feel inspired by and maybe purchase if both parties felt like making the transaction. like.. some kind of virtual gallery party?
i don't know the best way to go about this, because while i'm certainly a nerd on a computer, i'm not the computery kind of nerd. i'm not sure if it's even possible. but the lounge is in favor of it at the moment. and it sounds neato.

let us know what you think,

We're ban happy on the Sift and it sucks (Blog Entry by blankfist)

blankfist says...

>> ^bareboards2:

Who thinks bk33 should have been permanently instabanned? I don't see that in this thread. Except for Burd.
>> ^blankfist:
>> ^bareboards2:
But we all agreed that it was wrong to instaban bk33 (well, except for Burd).

We all don't agree on that apparently.

Let's see. It appears DFT would be fine with it if you read his first comment above. It doesn't seem longde would put up much of a protest either. And NR didn't speak negatively of the instaban that I can find. Even bea's comment above was indifferent to the ban in the case of bk33 which reads a lot like favoritism to me.

And the ban comment from burd on bk33's profile page got upvotes from shepppard, hpqp and Gallowfalk. I'm sure there are more who rejoiced in silence.

Bernie Sanders slaps down Rand Paul: Health care as slavery

GenjiKilpatrick says...

[Wow, this sorta tumbled off topic but we'll see where it goes.]

      1.] Slavery bit

Declining profitability & the industrial revolution ended slavery.
Federal regulations were implemented later, mostly as political platforms.

If you're Britain, and the paid-workers of Brazil or Cuba can produce more sugarcane at lower prices compared to slave-workers.. which side of slavery would you support?

If you're an American plantation owner, how much money are you willing to waste rebuilding your business after every, rapidly increasing slave revolt?

If you're an American or European Labor Union supporter, are you going to buy sugar or textiles from companies that don't pay their workers?

[No, you might even start a petition to enact legislation.]

      2.] Regulation ≠ Improvement

You and @peggedbea seem to think I'm implying that oligarchs should be allowed off some magical leash called regulation.

What I should have articulated first, was the understanding that:
Regulation & incentive - sticks & carrots - work counter-intuitively, more often than not.

Think about it. Is it the people typing up the regulations or the management?
Is it the workers writing up the wage laws or the owners?

If you're a small business owner who you can't afford to pay your workers minimum wage, you're out of the game before you can even start.

Regulations are the Oligarchs best tool to maintain or expand their power.

Mostly because folks like you & Bea legitimize their authority thru your support of regulation as the best thing since sliced bread.

      Lastly

While I support truly free economic exchange, I also support single payer universal health care.

It's possible for them both to exist together at once.

The sooner more people are allowed into the market..
the sooner capitalist fundamentalist healthcare oligarchs will be overlooked because someone offers a better service.

[Again, are you gonna buy from the small, local owner whose minimum wage is slightly below your standards.

..Or the giant multinational conglomerate who uses Southeast Asian slave labor.]

These things tend to work themselves out.

Attempting to elicit obedience from the oligarch only causes problem for all of us you aren't powerful enough to game the system like they can.

Hence, why free economic exchange - yes even the darker side - is necessary for true liberty.

Sheppard, you were telling us about the female anatomy. Pray please continue...

I'm sorry, are you trying to make fun of me for not knowing that?
I'm not a woman, nor have I ever hit one. I would assume that it hurt less because that's what I've been told, not having a vagina, that's basically all I have to go on. I've been told being hit in the boob hurts most, that's what I was going by.
Bea made a list, I'll respect it. I'm in no position to argue.

Okay, simmer down. I didn't spit in your face, nor have I flat out insulted women, you're now just trying to pick a fight for some unknown reason. I said one thing that I've been told my entire life, I was raised by my mom, lived with my sister, and now I have 2 more sisters since my dad remarried.

The subject hasn't come up recently, but I've always been told that it doesn't hurt, and I've never cared to try for myself. If you want to take some sort of rage out at me for no reason at all, go nuts. But your logic for hating me currently escapes me.

if someone isn't actually TRYING to hurt you, the boob is more sensitive. if someone wants to inflict pain, the delicate nerve endings in your labia and clitoris being slammed between a fist, a boot, a brick.. whatever.. and your pubic bone is horrific... but sure, an accidentally elbow to your nipple hurts like hell. >> ^Shepppard:
