Latin America - Model for Growing Middle Class? -- TYT

shagen454 says...

This is great. I have been so sick of all the propaganda about Venezuela because America does not want socialism as a hot topic for the working class and poor. The same people who conduct disinformation on socialism are the ones who have it: the rich and huge corporations.

TYT - Romney: Blacks & Hispanics Wanted Gifts from Obama

RFlagg says...

It drives me nuts how those on the right get upset about the entitlements the working poor get, despite the fact they wouldn't need those entitlements if the rich would pay all their workers a living wage... but let's continue to let them ruin the lives of the working class and just say that the working poor just want handouts... I personally don't know anyone who just wants free handouts, everyone I know among the working poor want a job where we don't need the help anymore. That isn't to say there are some out there, but the vast majority of people don't want the help, they just want paid a living wage and escape the need for help. It also isn't to say that all rich people are worthless assholes and a waste of stardust, but I am willing to bet that as a percentage, more of them are asshats than there are lazy bums among the poor.

@rottenseed
you make some good points buckaroo but your post is ignoring the giant pink elephant in the room.
@Sagemind 's most excellent post gave that elephant a nod but i think it prudent to point directly at that giant hulking pustulent piece of pink elephant flesh.

shall we?
1.corporate america is NOT based on true capitalism (actual free market) but rather state-run capitalism.this translates to lower or non-existent tax revenue, government subsidies and outright bailouts.
in other words=socialism.

2.you state that a corporation has a "duty" to maximize profits.i would agree if you changed "duty" to "legal obligation".

3.this legal obligation to maximize profits has led to all kinds of inventive and clever ways to defraud the public and local municipalities, from having them pay for infrastructure to waste clean-up.the amount of money spent by public,tax-payer funds is staggering which of course=socialism.

4.corporate america has a literal army of 35,000 lobbyists in washington whose sole purpose is to manipulate legislatures to pass favorable laws (de-regulation).85% of ALL laws passed are actually written by corporate lobbyists.

5.since the abomination ruling of citizens united (fuck you alito) corporate america now has the unlimited access to our lawmakers.walmart spent tens of millions on the last election cycle, how much did you give? and who do you think those legislators are going to be listening to?
money=speech in this country.

6.a corporation is considered a person but this person has no empathy, remorse nor feelings of solidarity with fellow humans due to its very nature written into law.
otherwise known as a sociopath.

seewhatimsaying?
the corporate charter needs to be re-examined and/or re-written because what we have now is corporate welfare/socialism with all the benefits going to the top while the working class foots the bill.

vote with your wallet? sure.that would work to a point but many people are limited concerning options and walmart is the only place these folks can afford.
sometimes this economic situation is due to bad choices but more often it is just life kicking these people in the balls.

buck up and go grab some higher education?
sure...and that works how often?
im not kidding.go check the statistics.they are pathetic.
i bartend part time and there are 4 masters degrees and 8 bachelors where i work, all in different fields.ask them how their "higher education" paid off for them.
$100,000 in student debt loans all to be able to ask "would you like some cracked pepper sir"?

now lets punch that pink elephant straight in the balls shall we?
the suggestion that somehow if labor becomes organized and demands..and receives..a more viable living wage with some humane and decent benefits will somehow automatically translate into higher priced goods and eventual job loss is just corporate propaganda which originates from the reagan years.

this is absolute and utter bullshit all fed to us by the very corporations seeking to dominate and oppress its work force.

remember,it is the legal obligation of the corporate board of directors to "maximize profit" not "shoot itself in the foot".
the suggestion that somehow paying its employees a living wage translates to the destruction of the company is apocalyptic propaganda.

what has been done to the american worker is perverse.over the past thirty years we have seen the creation of either wage-slaves or debt slaves..or both.
any way you wish to look at it.we are slaves in one form or another.

i mean..just go check the numbers.
worker pay has stagnated for the past thirty years, while corporate profits have continually broken records.
do you seriously think that a unionized labor force will kill walmart?
not a chance and to suggest otherwise just indicates that the corporate propaganda has been quite effective.

walmart could pay a living wage AND offer affordable benefits and STILL would have cheap goods.
and every step of the way they would be "maximizing profits".

welcome to the united states of corporate america!
will that be cash or credit?

I really do wish people would start talking about labor movements, communism, socialism or whatever. Just whatever. I'm so sick of the main dividing political issues being abortion, gay rights and shit that matters but are mute points in getting a real system that works for the people... the fucking working class. If the working class were empowered again you know that it'd vote pro-choice and pro gay marriage. Fuck the media owned by billionares. They are in power and they control the message and they want their conservative fantasy vision to be beheld by everyone so they can plunder every last penny under these bible belters... and you I included in that downfall with them. Fuck Democracy Now... SOCIALISM NOW.

I don't understand why any working stiff in this country is Republican. You have to be an incredibly gullible sap to vote against your own interests time after time. It like evolution in reverse.
Again, I profer by my earlier idea of introducing lions and other large predators to red states. So much easy prey there.

Maddow: Romney's Reversal a Disqualifying Character issue

dystopianfuturetoday says...

The Romney/Ryan team have a long list of disqualifying characteristics

1. Poor understanding of economics.
2. Poor understanding of foreign policy.
3. Near constant bald-faced lying.
4. They seem to be rooting for the country to fail.
5. Playing political games during a time when we face a lot of problems.
6. Silver spoons firmly wedged in anuses.
7. Both have a history of extreme hostility towards the working class.
8. Both are cultists (Mormon/Objectivist)
9. Plutocratic policy based more on dogma than pragmatism
10. Neither seem smart enough for the gig.

Even Fox News is Fed Up With Romney on his "Loophole" Cuts

messenger says...

Now, that perspective/wording makes sense. IF his goal is tax reform, then he's doing a horrible job.

The thing is, if tax reform were his priority, I think he would put together a tax reform roadmap first, not start off with his plan to distribute as yet uncalculated benefits (20% is just a number out of thin air). If this is just a bad campaign, it's the worst I've heard of. Given that he's a politician, and I think the best financed politician ever, it's more likely that he's got a hidden agenda, and those who can read the wind are figuring it out, testing their theories, and coming up positive.

Sincerely, if he's all about tax reform, then by now he should have identified at least ONE loophole that he could find general agreement on as a good candidate to close. No? If not, then on what basis does he think tax reform is necessary? You can't realize the floor needs sweeping unless you have seen seen some dirt. So why not mention just one?

What has he ever done or said that gives you the impression he may care about anything other than the wealthy? He can't even identify with the middle class. He thinks his wife owning two Cadillacs and being friends with Nascar owners will get him in with the working class. He's really that disconnected. It's just blind faith you're going on, and in politics, that doesn't meet with a high success rate when compared with analysing behaviour.

No, the reason he isn't making it clear is that this is a tax gift to the wealthy first (including himself), and later he's going to finance that gift from the pockets of the middle class and poor.>> ^bareboards2:

I get that. Although I don't think that Rmoney is only about the wealthy. It's hard to tell with Rmoney, since he is the King of Flip Flopping -- what the hell does he really believe and want to do? I honestly don't know. If he gets into office (GOD FORBID, INCLUDING THE MORMON VERSION OF GOD PLEASE), I don't know how hard he would push for lower tax rates for the wealthy. He is such a flip flopper, I can see him letting that go.
The goal of reforming our tax code is a laudable one. I personally think it is impossible -- there are too many vested interests in the pieces where "I got mine" and nobody is going to want to let "theirs" go.
However, my original point remains -- if Rmoney's goal is to reform the tax code, which people have been wanting to do for decades, HE ISN'T MAKING IT CLEAR.
I am starting to feel sorry for the man. He has wanted to be President for so long. To be running such a poor poor campaign, unable to make a single smart step... I feel for him as a fellow struggling human being.
And relieved that he is so piss poor at it.

Reid Hitting Romney Hard Over (Possibly) Unpaid Taxes

kymbos says...

You make a lot of sense, @shagen454

But I think the reason conservatives think this election is important is because they've been told it's important by their favoured media outlet, and their guy isn't in power.

The interesting thing for me is how the Republican party can encourage working class people to vote directly against their own personal best interests. When you think about that, it's really quite an incredible achievement.

An Indecent Proposal from Sarah Silverman

bobknight33 says...

You could tax the rich out the ass, take all corporate profits and still not be even close to solving the debt issue. You are a fool to believe otherwise.

Comparing the USA to other counties is a moot point. Who cares about other countries. Each country solves its own issues. What look towards Greece and Spain as model socialized societies? Fuck that they are a sinking ship. Germany is the most financially secure country and that's because of their thrift.

Obama is the most leftest liberal this country has ever had. To make his presidency worse he has turned his back on Israel and given the wink and nod to the radical Muslim brotherhood to rise up and take over some countries in the middle east.

Domestically had has done shit except given everyone a large personal tax called healthcare. Everyone will have to pay up. Employers will bail out of providing insurance and we will have to pay it all.

Jobs What jobs The US is running negative. More jobs are lost than created. His policies have failed.

The unemployment would be a lot higher if they counted those who have stopped looking altogether.

A lot the money he has given out were to state labor unions and to useless failed green jobs.

This. No matter what Fox and Rush and all the other screw over the working class so 1 or 2% of the population doesn't have to pay an extra 3% tax people say, Obama isn't a Liberal. He campaigned as one, but aside from bringing this country in line with every other country in the world except the communists and Islamic ones by ending Don't Ask Don't Tell (which even McCain said he would support when the military said it wanted to end it, but then didn't support it when they asked), he hasn't really done anything liberal.
I love how some on the right say even Liberals don't like Obama... yes, because he isn't the liberal people voted for, he's a centralist/left leaning Republican, at best a far right leaning Democrat. Now how much is Obama's fault is hard to tell. It could be he is a far right leaning Democrat, or he could just lack the balls to stand up the Republicans (likely), or he could be a victim of the promise the Republicans made when he won in that they would never negotiate and never give in and never let him win, that they would do everything they could do make sure his Presidency was a failure (even more likely).
I.

I think I would rather have the guy who at least says he care about the wage slaves who can't make a living wage because some greedy ass holes think they deserve to take the money earned by those slaves so the ass holes can have a life of luxury, and thinks the greedy ass holes should pay a small amount to help those they stole from, over the guy who flat out supports those people who have stolen their wealth and thinks that the people who are struggling need to be punished more by taking away more of their support while refusing to cut things that actually need cut and would save the country billions more, because the key word in building the economy is building, and one doesn't build with the top, but you start with the bottom... let them have money to spend, then places need more people which creates jobs, which means more people spending, which means transportation needs start growing which means more jobs and more spending which means manufacturing needs to grow which means more jobs and more spending... but no, the Republican ideal is give money to the top, and while it hasn't happened for over 30 years, some day they say it will start to trickle down...

That all said, this commercial wasn't the best... they should have focused on how the feds and Nevada are investigating Sheldon Adelson's casino's actions for purported bribery of foreign officials...

A stupid video ad from a stupid Liberal. Obama is a fool of a president. He is in way over his head and doing such a shitty job that any person with a bit of intelligence will help Romney win, even if they are billionaires.

I glad I'm not dumb enough to vote for Obama.

Bitch all you want. You're still gonna lose the election.
Obama hasn't been a great president, mostly because he's pandered to the right. But he's still an order of magnitude better than Romney.
