Man Rips Up His Cash Over Seat Belt Ticket

BSR says...

Seat belts will better help keep you in control of your vehicle after a collision. If your car rolls over or you go sideways into a tree it helps keep you from back, head and neck injuries which could leave you with pain and mobility issues long after the crash. I also see it as being very selfish to your family and loved ones who potentially may have to care for you if you survive, in which case you will be very annoyed and annoying.

It should be mandated by government because some people think they are the best drivers ever.

Does any of your family members drive the disabled alarm car?

visionep said:

Forcing adults to wear them does nothing for public safety, it's a personal safety issue which shouldn't be mandated by the government.

Russian Sanctions and Global Economic Risk

vil says...

We are not hoping Putin will reverse his course, we are hoping (rich elite and military) Russians will decide they would be better offf without war and threatening to destroy the world.

Switching of SWIFT is not a total ban on transactions but is very annoying for russians.

Dependency of Europe on Russian oil and gas is a direct security danger, they do use it to extort (and bribe - see Mr. Schroeder) the west.

China gets paid mostly in dollars, it would be a pain for China to use anything else to buy oil and gas. But nothing is ever certain forever.

Russia will need dollars in any form, even if they have to be black market dolars so they will gladly take Chinese payments in dollars. Also their stock market and currency is... f***ed.

Lawyer's Reaction to Carnage at Lafayette Square

BSR says...

I'm sure this guy has a lot good things to say but I can't handle the constant zoom in and zoom out after just about every friggin' sentence he speaks. It's like a cameraman trying to validate his own existence. Very annoying. I'd rather read the text version if there is one.

Sweets Or Not Sweets? 2017

Your phone is always listening

MilkmanDan says...

Slashdot had a post about an upcoming (about 1 year out) phone that can run pretty standard Linux distros. I took interest because I'm very annoyed about how UNconfigurable android is.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, very old by now, but hardware wise it still works fine. Software wise, it is shit. Android apps are massively bloated compared to when the phone was new, so the "system" partition of the phone is too small to install anything other than like 1-2 apps. From what I can tell, rooting might not help because there are still standard partitioning requirements? I dunno. Anyway, it is a big mess compared to a desktop, where I can partition things any way I want (which works great if you know what you are doing).

Anyway, I don't want to shill for Purism, the company that will be making the phone in the Slashdot article (for one thing, the phone is still a year or so away from final production), but they seem to be doing things right. They DO have some laptops on the market now, which apparently include a relevant feature mentioned in the write-up about their upcoming phone: hardware kill switches for the microphone, camera, and WiFi/Bluetooth.

If you read the ToS (hah! as if) for things like Facebook's app or the phones / OS themselves, you might see that you are "agreeing" to this kind of data collectionspying. If that sets the bar for "good" behavior, imagine what the bad guys (NSA, other agencies, state actors, unscrupulous advertisers, malware producers, etc.) can and will do. That's why any software solution is dubious. That's why electrical tape over your webcam is better than assuming that the record light is trustworthy. That's why a hardware kill switch is a good feature if you're concerned about this (like me).

Here's links to:
an article about the hardware kill switches in Purism's laptops, and
an article about their upcoming phone the Librem 5

I don't own any of their hardware. I don't like paid shills. That being said, I'm interested in what they are doing.

Woman Accuses White Male of Stealing Her Cultural Hairstyle

Imagoamin says...

He sure looks and sounds like every burn out at a phish concert I've ever known. Just a very annoying type of dude, in my experience.

But whatever, not like I feel like he needs to be "taught a lesson" or needs a "head check", like the floundering outrage in these comments.

enoch said:

@Imagoamin
trying to see your point on the dude being insanely obnoxious, and i just dont see it.

i do,however, see an incredibly self-righteous and smug chick attempting to bully pulpit her way into that dudes space.

Cow Cow Boogie

1) Very annoying music.

Catapult Base Jumping

tancredemelet says...

Hi there, I am the base jumper appearing in the video, can you remove the catapult video PLEASE?
I guess you record it from the net, there was a LEAKAGE, this video was not supposed to come out before we release a full movie about the story.
Please can you erase it ASAP?
I am very annoyed people don't respect our work on this project by sharing a video with no rights and not even saying from who it is coming from. There was 30 people for one month to build the catapult and I worked 6 month to organise all project, we wanted to keep this secret before the official full movie is released...
Thanks for your cooperation

Neil deGrasse Tyson vs. Conservative Media

vil says...

Yyyeees, but... you dont actually have to believe in those things. You just learn about them and use them. Or dont.

Like you dont have to believe politicians but you have to pay taxes.

You dont have to believe in AGW but you can measure the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and count icebergs and cow farts.

You can believe anything you want to believe as long as you dont cheat on the measurements.

Also i have measured the music in that video and found it anthropogenic and very annoying.

ChaosEngine said:

The simple fact is, if you don't believe in AGW, then you don't believe in the scientific method.

Tailgating is bad, okay!

chingalera says...

Correct. Tailgating combined with an inordinate amount of meatbots on their cellular devices divided by an inordinate and ever-increasing amount of people who should not be driving given their lack of ability to do so without endangering lives anyhow because of the fact that THEY NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO FUCKING DRIVE ANYHOW given their lack of awareness/motor skills/etc., makes city roadways of today a very annoying place.

Payback said:

The fisheye camera makes it look like he's got any room, but he's about one car length away from the Peugeot, at freeway speed. That's tailgating.

Animation dance done right

eric3579 says...

@bareboards2 It's hard for me to pay attention to the dancing when they constantly cut to the judges. Why would you do that? I absolutely hate these type of shows. I'm sure the talent is fine but arent you subjected to 30 min(its a guess) or more of background story before seeing a couple minutes of the dancing or singing or whatever the shows about. I find it all very annoying.

SPITFIRE 944

- Southland Tales - Justin Timberlake - The Killers -

SevenFingers says...

I just don't see how this ISN'T good work. But that's just me. I remember leaving the theater after watching 300, saw a couple come out talking to eachother how that movie was sooooo badass. Then about a minute later another couple came out, looking very annoyed and stating to each other that, that movie was the worst thing they ever watched.

Yogi said:

My friends watched it, to this day they refuse to watch it with me because they said it's the worst movie ever made.

Yeah so this is happening now [embed fun] (Mystery Talk Post)

oritteropo says...

Ever since vs5.0, if my link drops for even a second I need to reload the page before I can vote. Very annoying

radx said:

...

While we're at it, anyone else been bombarded with "Malformed Request" whenever you try to up-/downvote anything? Been that way for about two weeks. A forced refresh or three helps most of the times, but it's rather annoying.
