Aliens: The Ride - Planet Coaster Dark Ride

testlump says...

Plug this in to a VR headset and a pneumatic chair and you'd be in for a hell of a ride.

Also, how great was the sound design in Aliens 1, 2 (SE) and 3 (Assembly Cut Obvs)? The maternal self destruct voice from the first movie never gets old.

I wonder how these cell phone based VR setups compare to more traditional ones like Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive. Are they as immersive, or are they more like a poor mans VR solution.

Here's What It's Like To Drive A Formula 1 Car!

SeesThruYou says...

This is all very cool and informative, but knowing what it's really like to drive an F1 car is not something you can experience through any form of media, no matter how in-depth it might be. You can talk about it, make videos, even simulate it in VR, but unless you actually DO it, you'll never really know.

Drone Flight of the Year

so I was like "aww theres no way this guy is going to pull off anything that would impress me"... I was wrong. Also I figured with those loops and under passes he was using a vr headset and I was right. at the end he lands infront of himself.

It's so amazing how a little bit of sensory feedback can completely sell a vr experience to your brain. Another interesting approach that is under development is a sort of VR/haunted house mashup where you physically walk through a set or rooms where the walls and objects exactly match the virtual ones.

OK, so a VR typing program where you might not even type!
This is sounding better and better.

EDIT: Reminds me of clandestine typing service....Their motto-"We don't do typing here"

Sure, but not everyone types. Some just use their mice to move their cursor and click on things like upvoting us.

Photo realism in video games

moonsammy says...

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of photorealistic / realistic-behaving games as he describes and which actually work, but I don't know how many current genres / game styles would really "feel right" if presented that way. I don't think I'd want to play an especially violent game that looked fully real, while cartoony or otherwise clearly non-real I'm totally down with. Sports might be interesting, but doesn't really seem a necessary improvement. Survival horror would seem to be a good fit - a fully realistic-feeling presentation of something like Silent Hill or Amnesia has a certain sick appeal. Perhaps particularly in VR. Ideally in The Void.

Ready Player One trailer 2018

To comment about the "mediocre CGI" the bulk of the movie and the book takes place in VR. Technically it would be CGI for everything lol.

Failed to generate even a shred of interest. Usually I hate trailers because they spoil too much of the plot points, but I couldn't see if there's a plot at all, and the mediocre CGI didn't really sell it either.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets | Final Trailer

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Looks visually stunning - so why do I think I will be yawning half-way through the movie? When will Hollywood learn that story and character has to come first - then the beautiful vision.

I hope I'm wrong. 5th Element was good - but what was good and memorable were the characters.

Having said that - I would like to play this as a VR game.
