Two girls fighting over the same guy.

This woman wins WORST PARENT award

Things i can't believe after looking at this video/comments:

1) The video
2) People saying "this is nothing, rofl" - may i interest you in an old Monty Python sketch?
3) That people have downvoted comments that say "how can you say this isn't abuse, are you crazy?"

I couldn't watch past 30 seconds. As a victim of what i would term "relatively tame" abuse, i can assure you that there were huge periods of my life when i didn't want to live, i'm affected by it every day of my life, and it's impacted on my relationships, my friendships, my self esteem, my education and my goals in life.

If you've been a victim of abuse, ANY kind of abuse, you allow your abusers to win when you belittle someone else's trauma - the mental scars they imparted on you are the reason you feel the need to get into one-upmanship when you see someone suffering. You fuckers make my stomach turn almost worse than watching the video.

i don't look like her.

if i did, i'm not sure modeling, not porn or stripping, but modeling/acting with my midriff and thighs showing wouldn't seem like a particularly degrading job, if my soul was otherwise in tact. i don't categorically disrespect models.

i have, however, just now found out what a page 3 girl is, that's a little ..... um.... i don't know, but she ain't selling body wash.

Would it yours?

Would seem like work too easy and lucrative to pass up.

You aren't looking into that?

Hmm. I wonder why..

would it injury your self esteem if people paid you strut around topless... like as a side job? i doubt it.

Well the discussion Gallowflak brought up was about dignity/esteem not immorality
I was attempting to make the point that:
Even if she's secure in the fact she's on her way to reaching her potential..
..being sold as an object, even if you enjoy it thoroughly, has its limits.
Humans have complex emotions and thoughts and self-images. Objects don't.
Hence why esteem will suffer inevitably. ..in most cases.

Wait. . . have you seen your avatar image? Or are you pro-immorality? I'm confused.

Some humans engage in work to give themselves meaning. They have my pity. The rest of us engage in work to provide for a family, the family giving the meaning. A lottery winner that sits around all day could have a ton of meaning to their life and never work a single day. Your argument the simplistic view of a philosophical debate that you have twisted to fit to try and convey your meaning here.

Also by the time her "appearance" diminishes she might have moved on to something else, or maybe by the time it happens she'll be too old to care anymore. I'm sure you can't predict this woman's or anyone else's life. And the self-justification of your own work is so transparent to a point of hilarity. Composer make music. Music is art. This women is part of photography. Photography is art. Are you implying you art> her art? Every musician on the radio is a composer. When you cure cancer you can pat yourself on the back.>> ^GenjiKilpatrick:

Hate this argument cause it's not that simple and you know it.
This "work" is based completely on outward appearance.
[Outward Appearance = Self Image]
Self-image directly effects self-esteem.
[Dignity = Esteem]
Not to mention, humans engage in work because it gives us meaning.
[Meaningful work = Happiness]
~~
If she views being objectified as meaningful work then she's likely happy and feelings quite dignified. "Look at me! I'm a smokin' hot model"
But as her outward appearance diminishes, so will her work, followed by her esteem.
The majority of females likely think being objectified is NOT meaningful work.
That same majority likely think being a composer is relatively more meaningful.
Hence the greater automatic resignation of personal esteem [or dignity]Gallowflak mentioned.
~~
Also, that picture of Amazonian tribal women is a non sequitur.
They're not being objectified by their culture for purposes of employment.
[In effect, what you're implying is "Being objectified for paper currency is the most natural thing on the planet!"]

>> ^MarineGunrock:
Dignity? What is this false concept you speak of? Do these women not have dignity? If a woman feels comfortable exposing her body to untold masses, why should it be considered giving up dignity? Why is she no longer worthy of respect just for exposing what is the most natural thing on the planet?

I just hate it when you know a person who is suffering abuse and you're willing to intercede for them, or help them find other help, or move them out, or call the police or etc etc and they keep making excuses for the person...

I know it's a byproduct of ongoing emotional/mental abuse coupled with the physical that engenders low self esteem and the belief that they are so terrible and that no one else will ever love them, but as a person who has had a couple of friends go through terrible abuse, it's insanely frustrating to sit on the sidelines because the person won't grab hold of the help offered, and then see them turn up with a new bruise, or a split lip, or a missing tooth (or all of the above)...

If you need to beat on a broken woman to make you feel better about yourself, you're not a man.

I disagree. Saved Christians are compelled to help as a result of their salvation. Before my salvation I helped people because I wanted to hear people's praises of how good I am. Now I do it because of the love of the Lord. There is a difference because the later is a selfish sacrifice whereas the former is vanity. This selfish attitude is the fruit of a true Christian. Not saying non-Christians don't behave this way. However when faced with adversity and other hardships people's motivations are tested. If I only had earthly motivations then I would falter.

Your personal justifications are no deal maker; people will help others out of empathy, vanity, expectance of reciprocity, etc., with or without religion. All religion does is have an authority figure tell you you must be a certain way otherwise you will be tortured forever and not go to an imaginary wonderful place.

The same results of "salvation" as you call it can be found by reading philosophy and/or working on one's ethics and self esteem; no need to have "faith" or believe in the supernatural for any of that.

Animated Žižek: The dangers of charity

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I think he's right about charity demoralising the recipient. I haven't been on the receiving end of charity often, but one time ...

We had recently arrived in Australia, and we didn't have anyone around to spend Christmas with - we heard on the radio about a community Christmas dinner for "anyone who doesn't have somewhere to go for Christmas" it sounded good, like a great way to meet some people and make some ties in our new home.

So, it turned out it was a charity event - there were people from homeless shelters and nursing homes and us. There were all these volunteers running around serving turkey and making sure everyone got a Christmas gift. And I have to say, although the people were really nice, I did feel terrible - I had a job, we had plenty of money - but we were treated like a down-and-out family hit on hard times by these throngs of do-gooders. My present was a comb and some cheap soap so I could "clean myself up" I suppose to get a job.

My experience from that dinner was that the volunteers who were helping out finished the day feeling very good about themselves-- while the recipients of their magnanimity and largess left with their self-esteem taken down one notch.

No one wants to be a charity case.

How to trick people into thinking you're good looking

I have very little respect for women who walk around looking like Trollops. I met my spouse in college, and her roommate would wear layer upon layer of foundation - so much so she looked like a wax statue. Then the copious amounts of black eye shadow, bright red lipstick, and then spray herself with a cloud of cheap perfume.
Needless to say, it was nasty. One wonders why they do this - do they think it'll help them get ahead? Nymphomania? Low self-esteem? Were they taught this by their mothers? Sisters? Television?
When I'm walking around a mall, I see these types of women around - the kind that see you, size you up, make eye contact, and then get insulted when you don't shower them with attention. When this happens, if I have a male friend nearby, I usually tap my buddy on the shoulder, point at them, and laugh so that they can see me.
May not be nice, but I figure it's good for them in the long run.
