The Molten-Salt Reactor Experiment film by ORNL 1969

newtboy says...

I recall something similar, low power medium heat mini-reactors that could not meltdown, on a tv science show a decade or more ago. They had a few small units (shipping container size) running a few buildings somewhere in Canada on an experimental basis, but I have no idea what came of the project.

I recently saw a contemporary video about how molten salt nuclear fission is much less risky in terms of meltdowns (not possible) and waste (much more manageable, and some waste products even being useful), and that this now seemingly abandoned method of nuclear energy might be the answer to many of our energy problems today. Does anyone know more about this? Is it a better alternative indeed? This video is a bit too technical for me, but I'd still like to think that this is a forgotten method of generating energy that might save us from completely wrecking the climate...

NieR: Automata - Paris Games Week 2015 Reveal Trailer | PS4

jmd says...

What? Ps3 was good? pfft... all of the games in the series has been shit. However this is loosly based on them, and I have a soft spot for girls in mini skirts wielding big swords so I will wait for the reviews. The demo has been released but won't be able to tell how tactic progression works or if the game plays the same from the first fight to the last until the final is reviewed. It is on my list of games I am interested in for 2017 which is filled with many Japanese releases, hopefully they actually come out. Right now my one and only ps4 game that I had interest in getting is FF15. I have a gaming pc for everything else that came out.

Maryland fuel tanker plunges off highway I-95 and explodes

Absolutely terrifying stuff. I would do everything I could possibly imagine to flag down those vehicles in that oncoming lane. To see all that black smoke come up after those semi's entered was just terrible, because you knew just what that meant--I worked for UPS and those things are NOTHING but fire fuel (they are practically mini-bombs once they catch on fire at a good enough temperature...).

It would make a good driver-ed video, UPS driver video, state leaders, and even our country's leaders. So we can Improve our systems, education, infrastructure, first response, and our view of the issue.

Nope, just another day. Remember when Obi-Wan got killed by Darth Vader? Remember?

(Oh, spoiler, sorry...)

Methamphetamine Is The Drug of Choice In Asia

*promote the *quality mini documentary.

The drug 'war' is so devastating to all involved. I want to say I'm at least glad that it isn't like this in Canada and America but I know that in parts of a lot of cities there are these types of things going on. Little by little we try to make a difference.

We have 4 years of this and at least one scotus judge that can interpret the constitution, or 4 years of the worst possible person to run for president in...ever.

The sad thing is, I could be referring to either presumptive nominee. Either way. expect another Wall St. crash and/or mini-Depression again.

I heard they recently ditched a bunch of on board mini-mac's at the core of it and went with a single windows 7 box.

Tested HTC Vive review

MilkmanDan says...

I never got sold on motion control. It just has never been precise enough to feel like anything more than a gimmick to me. Maybe just confirmation bias, but everything I tried on Wii just felt really weird, clunky, and plasticky. I'll admit that I haven't really tried much of anything since then (and Wii is really old news by now).

Anyway, all the demos here looked cool for their 3D immersion, but my old bias against motion control kind of put a bit of an unfavorable spin on everything -- at least to me. Fine, small-scale motor skills are just going to be really hard to simulate with two wand-like things, even when they have multiple degrees of freedom and seemingly pretty solid accuracy.

...But, I'll admit that the archery mini-game looked like a really fun adaptation of that that wouldn't necessarily require *extremely* accurate fine control. Moving out of gimmick territory and into "ok, that could actually be extremely entertaining".
