John McCain on the Senate Torture Report

speechless says...

I'm not trying to minimize what McCain went through, but I do think it's interesting how, for some people, their views only change or differ from their party if they are personally affected. Most of humanity knows torture is wrong without having to actually be tortured.

He was tortured. A lot of guys were tortured. But if you look into it, you'll find McCain is far from "an honourable man and one who has the best interests of his country at heart" and has done plenty to earn the fury of other vets (who were also tortured) by blocking access to P.O.W. / M.I.A. records.

McCain served in the Vietnam war, was shot down and captured in October 1967, and was mistreated and tortured as a prisoner of war. This is the first hand knowledge he claims.

Although it's always hard to know how accurately the media portrays people, and especially in the U.S., he has always struck me as an honourable man and one who has the best interests of his country at heart.

I'm afraid I can't say the same of the men who supported mistreatment of prisoners, or those who attempted to hide it.

Damn it, crazy grandpa! Every now and then you totally have a moment of clarity and say a bunch of stuff I can get behind, but tomorrow I suspect you'll be right back to supporting insanity (like Palin).

Wait, so these are not just illegal acts, but actual specifically delineated war crimes, since they continued after 2007? Can we turn over Bush and Cheney to the Hague this year?

TYT Republicans destroy and have no solutions

love how everyone starts chuckling when he declares that Obamacare *will* be killed

I'll never understand why democrats do not show up to vote on midterms. The Republicans didn't win the midterms...Dems just didn't show up so R just won by forfeit

They'll show up to vote against Palin and McCain, and to vote against Romney/Ryan. But they're silent during midterms.

On the lighter side though, Nothing has really changed though, Obama can still veto anything the R puts out and they don't have enough control of congress to override the veto. If anything If Reps really are emboldened and think they have a mandate to go full retard..even moreso than usual. Then in the long term, this will benefit the liberals when the public ultimately rejects GOP ideas as they have increasingly done so.

Real Time with Bill Maher: Generation Ass

MilkmanDan says...

Hmmm. Wasn't Maher one of the people piling on John McCain in 2008, when *he* was 72?

To be fair, that was mostly because McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate, which would have put her 1 step away from the White House if anything happened to him. But still, a big deal was made of his age at the time ... so you can't exactly claim that this is some new wave of ageism.

I'd personally be fine with a 72+ year old president... But on the other hand, the parties are going to swing for whoever they think is the most electable, and since a disturbing proportion of people just vote for whoever they think looks the best, they kinda have to pander to that demographic a bit. And that's going to put some pressure on the "old and wise" in favor of the "young and good looking", whether we agree with it or not.

Reality Show President: Inside the White House PR Machine

lantern53 says...

Democrats have all of these great intentions but every time they try to get it done, they fuck it up beyond all repair. Then Republicans think they can do it, and they fuck it up.

Which is why less gov't is more freedom.

Man, I never thought I'd pine for Bill Clinton. Of course, I never thought I'd vote for that worthless sumbitch John McCain, either.

But it's strange to watch the left just slobber over a guy who's trying to create this 'utopia'.

It's really 1984 all over again.

Clueless Old Guy says Clueless Crap

VoodooV says...

and would the troll gallery be saying this if McCain had won and had promptly had a heart attack, leaving Palin in charge?

judging all women on the basis of being a woman is about as discriminatory as it gets.

I'm sure BillO isn't that stupid, he just knows who signs his paycheck

TDS 2/24/14 - Denunciation Proclamation

Trancecoach says...

Calling something bullshit does not constitute a counter-argument.

Also, saying that being anti-war is "white libertarian bullshit" is kind of insulting to non-whites.

However, being anti-war is certainly libertarian.

But saying that it's bullshit simply says more about you than it does about being anti-war.
Still, as we've seen with the likes of John McCain or Dick Cheney, there's no arguing with warmongers like you

Marine to McCain: I would have you arrested for treason

longde says...

Irony of ironies. Accusing a POfuckingW who was tortured and refused to leave early of treason. I don't like McCain, but gotdamn that's ridiculous.

But McCain is almost partially responsible for this by recklessly putting the spotlight on Palin.

Hollywood actor Ben Affleck defends Arabs

ulysses1904 says...

The actual exchange was:
Woman - ...I can't trust Obama. I have read about him and he's not, he's not..he's a...um..he's an Arab.
McCain - no ma'am. He's a decent family man citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues and that's what this campaign is all about.

I don't hear it as McCain saying Obama is either Arab or decent man thing. I hear it as McCain responding to HER use of the word "Arab" as a pejorative.
