The content industry has made everybody a pirate.

Thumper says...

I'm pretty sure you just lost all credibility by plagiarizing the bible. >> ^shinyblurry:

I don't steal anything. Neither does "everyone" else. Some people actually do follow their conscience and don't steal content. Morality is a concept which is ingrained in all of us; you have a God given conscience that tells you right from wrong.
Companies have the right to do what is legal for them to do. You have the right to turn off your television set, take off your head phones, get up from your computer desk and do something productive in your life. You're caught up in the lust of the world:
Ecclesiastes 1:8
All things are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing.
Proverbs 27:20
Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
Your cravings for these things will never end. If it isn't one thing, it will be the other. You need to set your eyes on Heavenly things, on the peace of Jesus Christ. You need to turn from sin and turn towards Jesus Christ. When you start life sanctified by the riches of His grace and mercy, you will find true fulfillment.

Atheism Shmatheism

shinyblurry says...

I haven't judged you; I am not your judge. I do follow the ten commandments, and no I do not have portraits of God in my house. Neither are there fake gods and saints at my church; I am not a catholic.

God demands a higher standard than just trying to be good, and that is the standard we will be judged by. You say Jesus Christ has no value, but it is only through Him that our sins are forgiven. Since we cannot earn our way into eternal life, I would say His value is maximal.

I've never said you cannot be moral without God, but Gods standard of good is not anything anyone besides Jesus Christ has ever lived up to. You can be relatively good in comparison to other people, but as I've shown you, even the most pious people have broken His commandments hundreds, if not thousands of times. If you hate anyone, refuse to forgive, lust, steal, lie, etc, you are guilty. We are all guilty of transgressing His laws, and apart from Jesus Christ, we all will face judgement. Unlike pixies, you will be meeting Jesus one day, so get right with God on this side of life. He loves you and He will give you eternal life if you turn to Him.

Me? I don't even attempt to follow the rules of your pixie... And try to look at yourself before judging others, which appears to be something you excel in.
BTW, since I had 12 years of bible studies as an Israeli Jew, allow me to ask you this - do YOU follow the rules of god as written in the old testament? I'm pretty sure you don't... since you probably have at least 1-10 portraits of your god at home, you go to church which is filled with fake gods and saints (which is also forbidden).
Your god has no value to me, no more than a common pixie - when I was a kid, I believed that I get presents from pixies when I lose my teeth. Now I've grown up out of it... I think It's time for you to do the same... you'll find out that you can be a good person without the big brother in the sky to help you out.

>> ^shinyblurry:

So you're apathetic about the existence of God, but you also have formed a definite opinion on the probability of Gods existence, comparing Him to pixies. So I think it's more accurate to say you don't care because you don't believe. If you thought He was likely to exist I think you would care, don't you think? It's really a fallacy to compare God to pixies or teapots, because they explain precisely zero. The idea of God has explanatory power for our lives, and for the existence of the Universe.
So, what do you think happens to you when you die? You say you are generally moral, and I have no trouble believing that, but restraining yourself from killing people is not exactly the picture of morality. How well do you follow the ten commandments? Do you ever look at a woman with lust? Do you hate anyone? God calls us to a much higher standard than what you seem to be implicating.

Christianity's "Good News" Summed Up Perfectly

messenger says...

So, one of the guys trying to spread the faith back then kinda realized the whole dogma looked really silly, sometimes even despicable to people outside its own tautology. He knew that some of those people would mock its followers. To make sure the followers didn't listen to the mockers, wake up, and leave the religion, this writer included a line in his instructions predicting this mockery, making it sound like prophesy realized whenever it happened, strengthening the believer's faith. That's real genius. Seriously. Mad props to this "Peter" guy.

And there have been scoffers for the last 2,000 years, so when exactly are the "last days", again?>> ^shinyblurry:

All the other stuff aside. Are we supposed to take this to mean that somehow scoffing at Christianity is a new thing? Like somehow the end times are upon us because more people than ever are turning their noses? Because that's absolutely not true. (the scoffing part)

Christianity's "Good News" Summed Up Perfectly

shinyblurry says...

2 Peter 3:3

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

What I say here, I say out of love, in hopes that God would have mercy on you. I say this because you have no fear of Him, and no sense of the coming judgement, and because you mock God out of ignorance, not knowing that by rejecting Jesus Christ you are condemned already.

Jesus was not a scapegoat. He laid down His life, willingly, to take the punishment that you and I deserve. He paid the price for our sins, paid it in His blood; He was bruised for our inequities, and pierced for our transgressions. He died so that you and I could be forgiven for our sins and to give to us eternal life. He did what He did out love, love for us, that even while we drove in the nails, He loved us.

I speak to a valley of dry bones, and it is a miracle that you would hear the gospel and believe. You live in a fallen world and you don't realize it. Realize what your conscience tells you; you have lied, you have cheated, you have stolen, you have murdered, you have lusted, you have mocked, you have dishonored, and because of these things, the wrath of God abides on you. No sin is worth what you are facing. Wake up and choose life, and He will forgive you.

Matthew 5:30

And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

Badge Idea (Sift Talk Post)

bareboards2 says...

I have noticed that Badge Lust has led to some unpleasant side-effects. Would folks be so quick to dupe if they weren't going to earn a badge for duping?

Rewarding people for being #2-#9 will lead to lots of vids getting sifted that should just die in the pqueue.

Please don't reward Sifters for getting vids out of the pqueue. True Sifters' reward is the Sift. Not the Badge.

A perfect example of using Badge Lust for a positive result is the Lounge Lizard Badge. Poor Lounge was pretty lonely for quite a while. The Badge appeared, and folks started being more social there.

Rewarding folks for pushing vids to the Front Page is counterproductive to the whole point of Videosift.

Beware the beast Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. And some people are born without sight so they can't look at anything with lust. To each as they can receive the message. I'll modify my comment and say "in general", but in specific, God lets us know one way or another.

>> ^messenger:
Not so. Psychopathy is a condition where a person is born without a conscience, that's to say, has no concept of what's morally right and wrong except from what others have told them and what they have observed others to believe. They only know what's good for them and what's not. And it's a relatively common condition in the face of bold sweeping statements like yours.>> ^shinyblurry:
However, we all know some things are absolutely wrong and always will be, because everyone has a God given conscience which tells them that.

Why Men and Women can't be "just friends."

longde says...

I am still friends with many of my exes.

With one, we started as classmates, became friends, hooked up, came close to getting engaged, broke up, didn't talk for a while, and are now good friends.

None of my relationships with guy friends involve a fraction of that emotional complexity.

I think these interviews were well done, and uncovered the delusions of the women.

In college, I had many female friends that were good looking, which I was not in secret pursuit of. I mean, with a campus full of women, I think it would have been exhausting and frustrating to lust after every coed. So, there was a group of ladies i was actively campaigning to flip the status from friend to FwB or GF. I think "friend with benefits" is a nice concept, separating the emotion from the sex; I'm not sure if it's achievable. I've never achieved it.>> ^kceaton1:

I should add that I do have quite a few girl...friends, but I think it's the nature of the origin of the relationships that made them turn out this way. I ended up becoming friends with them when I was a little kid, like 6-8 years old. I'm around them enough that they are more like sisters than friends--and perhaps that IS the difference--the fact that they aren't necessarily friends, but almost family.
Of course, then I have to ask them the same question: What do they feel about me? The guy could still be right, but I doubt it. I think he's mostly right.
I do notice some girls like to keep their ex-ii as friends. I'll go on the record as stating that is a HORRIFIC idea. That would literally drive me nuts to date anyone doing that. I mean, I'd like to be "the bigger person" and let it slide, but that is just too much in your face and disrespectful--I think...
