Let's Talk About Bathrooms

bobknight33 says...

All this hoopla to accommodate 0.03% of the population.

Its not a GOD thing, homophobic type thing. Its a fear thing. No one wants to have their wife or daughter in a bathroom with a poorly dressed X dresser..( If they were that good inX dressing then no one would know to be icked out.)

937,713 have signed the Target ban as of 4/27/16 or about 0.3% of the population.

U2 - "The Fly"

ulysses1904 says...

U2 at their peak. I was in a hotel in Albany when I first saw this video and I hated the music, sounded like INXS "Devil Inside". It grew on me and "Achtung Baby" now ranks as one of my favorite CDs ever. Seeing them on this tour inspired me to get into animation/multimedia.

If you ask almost any metal fan (and even most open minded music fans), they will acknowledge that Master Of Puppets is a classic album of it's genre that still sounds as good today as it did when it came out.

Just wondering if anyone here feels that there are any other albums/songs of that era (preferably featured in the video) that still hold up in the same way, because I'm struggling to think of any.

And not ironic kitsch either... actual good music that if it was released today would still be regarded as good.

Maybe "graceland" or "Licenced to Ill"?

I randomly thought of INXS - Kick the other day. All the music on that album has aged really well if you ask me. "Mystify" or "Meditate" could pass for current music, along with other tracks.

Do you wanna dance?
Do you wanna fight?
Do you wanna get drunk and stay the night?

{{Knowing what's the price of me/leave?}}

Do you wanna dance?
Do you wanna fight?
Do you wanna get drunk and stay the night?
Do you wanna smoke till our throats are sore?
Make out and then talk and then make out some more?
Do you wanna dance?
Do you wanna fight?
Do you get drunk and stay the night?
Do you wanna know all the things I do
Where I'm all alone and thinking about you?

Do you wanna go back home?
Your animals are all alone
And there's a chicken waiting on the stove
And your cousin left his DVD of "Swinging In The 70s"
And do you wanna go back home?
Check your messages and charge your phone
Oh are you, really sure you wanna go?
When you could do it with a rock star, do it with a rock star?

Wait, wait, wait!
I'll be fine in a minute
Oh, oh oh
Wait, wait, wait!
I'll be fine in a minute

xxovercastxx:
"I have not labeled anyone a "brainless dipshit" for liking this song. "
And
I specifically said I don't have any issue with people who like this song, so I'm starting to think you all just enjoy being offended and/or arguing.

Except that your original comment was You know how sometimes you have one of those moments where you just realize that you're surrounded by brainless dipshits? This song at the height of its success was the biggest such moment I can recall.

That's what sent us all off... You did label those who enjoy it as brainless dipshits via that comment, and that's what gave us cause for some 'discussion'.

Later you honed that comment to be more along the lines of that you hate people who suggest that this is a great song, which I tend to agree with, but at the same time if said people also enjoyed a wide range of music with integrity and artistic value as well, are they not allowed to think a simplistic, catchy tune is also great?

Still, I'll join in the lament of really great music not being appreciated by the masses, but enjoy listening to what I enjoy.

And to illustrate the point that I have no claim to 'great taste'... here is some of the artists on high rotation in my media player:
The Beatles, Metallica, VAST, The Waifs, Live, The Whitlams, Bryan Adams, Enigma, Chris Isaak, Barenaked Ladies, The Tea Party, David Gray, Green Day, Era, Bernard Fanning, Dave Matthews Band, Marcy Playground, Regina Spektor, INXS, Vivaldi, Pink, Missy Higgins, Meat Loaf, The Wallflowers.

See... in that small sample of what I enjoy I'm sure most people would have some that they'd go 'Nice' to, some they'd go 'Oh my god, how embarrassing', some they go 'Who?' and so on... everyone has different tastes, different RANGE of tastes. I enjoy many, many other artists than those few I just grabbed off my media player, and within them there are sure to be more cringe worthy artists, more 'who's, more 'nice'... let everyone enjoy the full range of what they enjoy.
