Well prepare to get irritated!!

During Tuesday's annual Webby Awards ceremony, GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) creator Steve Wilhite put to rest the question of the animated images' correct pronunciation. The simple answer: Much like the peanut butter brand, it's a soft "G."

It gets under my skin when people call them JIFs. They're GIFs.

Alison Brie is the awesomest. She's such a sport (even miming very explicit sexual acts). She's sort of like a cleaned-up version of Olivia Munn.

[edit]
Now I'm confused. In the Unsexy GIFs video he actually asks how GIF should be pronounced and says he pronounces it GIF. Why then in this video does he say JIF? Is that some kind of joke?

Atheist in the Bible Belt outs herself because she is MORAL

shinyblurry says...

Would it be the one that condemns rape victims to death, or to marry their rapist (Deuteronomy 22:23-29)?

Exodus 22:17

If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, she shall pay money equal to the bride-price for virgins.

The father is the one who makes the decision and he was under no obligation to allow his daughter to be married to a rapist. The punishment was on the rapists side, that he would have to pay the bride price, and if the family agreed, to stay permanently married to the girl.

Or maybe it's the one that says you must stone disobedient children to death (Deuteronomy 21:18)?

"This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey us, he is a glutton and a drunkard"

It is not just a disobedient child, but a rebellious and morally depraved child. Yes, it is a harsh punishment, but God made the punishment harsh because Israel had a covenant with Him to be holy and they were to bring forth the Messiah.

Possibly you are referring to the correct method for beating your slaves (Exodus 21:20) ?

Exodus 21:20 details the punishment for beating a slave to death. The purpose of the law was to protect slaves.

How prisoners of war should be put to death (Deuteronomy 20:13) ?
Sorry, my bad, that's only male prisoners. You get to forcibly marry the women, unless they don't please you (at which point you can toss them out on their ear) Deuteronomy 21:11

Deuteronomy 21:11 wasn't commanded by God; it was an addition by Moses:

Mar 10:5 And Jesus said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.
Mar 10:6 But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.'
Mar 10:7 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife,
Mar 10:8 and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two but one flesh.
Mar 10:9 What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate."

I do so love being lectured on morals by the likes of you.

Most of the objections here have either been misinterpreted, or misapplied, and none of them are valid today. The civil and ceremonial laws given to Israel, and Israel only, were done away with when Jesus died on the cross. The total absence of any objection to what Jesus taught us about morality is what speaks volumes in the arguments you present, because there is nothing to be said about it except to praise it. If everyone followed the teachings of Jesus something like a utopia would dawn. If you want to understand the morality that comes from God, read what Jesus taught about it instead of playing the gotchya game with the Old Testament trying to find an excuse to ignore what Jesus said.

WTF is an emcee? You mean MC? As in Master of Ceremony?

Retroboy said:

Delightful. What got me was the cheesiness of it all. The squabbling pair that yell at the emcee, the host's horrible pencil-mustache, and the hands behind the scenes that you see turning cards and moving stuff just shouted Japanese gameshow. I lost it when player #2 started throwing boxes.

Doug Stanhope on civil unions for gay couples

ChaosEngine says...

yep. And while, I've got this soapbox, fuck "civil unions". Smacks of "separate but equal" to me. If I can get *married* to my wife in a secular ceremony, why the hell can't two people of the same sex get *married*?

BTW @lurgee, it's Stanhope, not "Standhope".

Fletch said:

So... on "civil unions for gay couples", he basically says nothing. I certainly don't disagree with what he said about the religious crap at a city council meeting, but this seems like a lost opportunity.

So glad to hear this. Cheers ole cum! I just recently missed a show where they preformed along with 3 other but kinda similar bands for $7 in Norfolk VA. The promoter seen that on the book of faces that said that I probably could not make it. He offered to foot the bill for the person who would travel with me to see them. I still had no takers. Mind you that when I seen them a few years ago, The same promoter was at this dive bar in Virginia Beach VA. When we walked into the place he asked us who we were there to see and my friend said "My friend wants me to see Ceremony." The dude said that they were about to hit the stage(late but perfect timing.) He then ask us where we were for and my friend said "Baltimore MD." It was a 5 hour trip man(I really love this band). The dude said "Whoa! You deserve a beer!" and bought us a pitcher of suds. This is a really cool click of musicians in the Mid Atlantic states. You need to clone yourself so I can take you to super cheap but fucking awesome shows.

Ted talks are not all science-based and this talk doesn't have a single claim of any woo as people like to call it.

PS. There is an ayahuasca church that has been recognized as a religion in the USA and its sacrament can be used in church ceremonies legally.

Queen Elizabeth II Lighter Moments

She seems like a nice lady but in my opinion the idea of Monarchy should die with her. I'm just a stupid American, but I would like to see this concept die completely, even if it's just ceremonial. No more Kings, no more Queens.

Boy Scout Was Denied His Eagle Badge Because He's Gay

I guess I have the same argument as I had when I said that Gay people should move out of states that are assholes and treat them badly. Just leave. Same for this guy, why would you stay in an organization that treats you like crap? Just leave. Is an Eagle Scout considered something valuable or good in society anymore? I think it's largely irrelevant. This organization is stupid and shout fuck off. Don't even bother with them except to point out how stupidly homophobic they are.

That's easier said than done when getting his Eagle award is a life's ambition for him - this is so important to him that he can't just walk away, and I can understand that completely. Also remember that it's not just himself he's fighting for, but his campaign may change the views of the scouting organisation and help empower other young gay men who find themselves in a similar situation.
Why should he quit doing something he loves because of the homophobes who want to ruin it for him? Walking away would be lazy and selfish when he stands a very good chance of changing hearts and minds as well as rules and regulations.

Life is about giving up on your dreams. Better he learns that now.
And he should quit because he's working on changing the minds of people who already don't fucking matter. Who are pathetic losers that operate an organization that is irrelevant as it is stupid. If he wants to fight them go for it, piss them off. Don't think though that even if they weren't a homophobic organization that Eagle Scout would be worth anything. It doesn't matter, the ceremony for becoming an Eagle Scout should come with a man at the end of the stage that takes you out back and shoots you in the head. It's stupid, it's worthless, and fuck off if you disagree.

No, I think that life is about trying to make things better for yourself and others; even if that doesn't work out sometimes, it's worth trying. By standing up for what he's entitled to, he's sending the message that inequality isn't acceptable, which may make things better for other people - in the Scouts and elsewhere - who are experiencing difficult situations like his. The principle matters here. And maybe your life is about giving up on your dreams, but I'm not sure the world is entirely the sack of crap that you think it is.

I love the part where they mix in their own local religious ceremonies with the stuff they've learned from the missionaries.
