i tried to sift this a couple days ago but the original news site's embed code didn't work. anyways, very cool.

You have to be a Silver Star or higher.

Of course the embed checker won't actually tell you that, but I'm sure it has fun watching people spend an hour trying to figure out what they did wrong until they finally give up out of frustration.

... so yea, I had the same issue once.

Interesting stuff concerning the projector. This is all new to me.

The live video, though, which I have linked uses the same visuals as this, and I think it looks even better because you can tell it's actually projecting onto the architecture. The stuff here's a bit too crisp and bright which is what got me wondering.

I guess they have to create a crude 3D model of the architecture in the first place in order to create the visuals, which is why they can go ahead and make this simulation video using the actual scenery.

It's all pretty cool, imo.

ABC news anchor asks a rather inappropriate question

So them:
talking about orgasms
showing labeled diagrams
poking around 3D models of a vag
having a gyno say " one little stick and that's it" on cam
and hearing her say G-spot at least 20 times iiisn't awkward at all..

But when the guy says penis..? yeah. totally weird huh o_O?

Not to mention the fact they have a weekly

Create a 3D model of any scene using Photosynth and Meshlab

r10k says...

>> ^MaxWilder:
I wonder if they can get it to automatically texture from the original photos. Probably not, or they would have shown that. It would be the most useful rendering.

Texturing is the easy part. It's the retopolgising and uving that'd be the killer (at least until Ptex is supported by more renderers, anyway)

On a side note, the 'texture' at the end is a shader.... but hey, who cares when the music is so awesum?!?!

The 3rd & the 7th : Beautiful CG Film [Watch in HD!]

westy says...

some of it is comp work using footage (trees ) its not All CGI , however most of it is CGI.

The actual modeling work load in this is not that bad , granted there is a fair amount of work in it , but most of the "quality" has been produced in post within after affects.

What this video shows if annything is how to edit and how to present 3d models in a good fashion.

Amazing and Unbeliavably Realistic Projections on Buildings

>> ^eric3579:
Reading the comments here, it does seem to have been a "simulation". You can view a live performance here.

The real live performance is still quite spectacular.
Must be quite a lot of work to make a 3D scan or model of the building and then tailor a lot of effects to that structure. Would seem like awesome work for a 3D modeler though.

Dancing ballerina - proof that she's going clockwise! (Wtf Talk Post)

upintheclouds says...

NetRunner, How are you confused about the fact that this silhouette was generated by a 3d model of a dancer spinning? The shadow below her gives this fact away. It would be very difficult to create an accompanying shadow to the silhouette if not using a 3d model. They simply did not light the model, and this is what produces the illusory effect. They did light the rest of the environment, however, to make it clear which way she is moving.

MarineGunrock, you have it backwards. Do not pay close attention to the model. Instead, follow the shadow underneath the dancer, which is lit, and therefore gives away depth information. When the shadow of the raised foot appears, that foot must be behind the dancer. If the shadow appeared when the dancer's raised foot was in front, then the light would be in front of the dancer, so the shadow would be behind her, and would not be visible in the image at all.

The real mystery is why this image appears to spin clockwise at all. I can see it, but I don't know how.

Digital forensics shows Oswald photo was not faked

shuac says...

Not bad. It would have been better if he'd been able to dynamically alter the angle of the light source in his 3D model. Like, drag the sun higher & lower...here's what the shadows look like at 5:00 pm, here's what they look like at high noon...allowing us to see that, yes, the body and nose shadows fall correctly. Capice?
