Y'know, right before the 20th anniversary of 9/11, that might not be the most appropriate thumbnail.
What A Rocket Launch Looks Like From Space
Nice additional info from APOTD:
The Russian Soyuz-FG rocket was launched in November 2018 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, carrying a Progress MS-10 (also 71P) module to bring needed supplies to the ISS. Highlights in the 90-second video (condensing about 15-minutes) include city lights and clouds visible on the Earth on the lower left, blue and gold bands of atmospheric airglow running diagonally across the center, and distant stars on the upper right that set behind the Earth. A lower stage can be seen falling back to Earth as the robotic supply ship fires its thrusters and begins to close on the ISS, a space laboratory that celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2018.

Best Gift Ever (Priceless Reaction)
Nicely done. I spent a year putting together a video for my wife's 40th birthday -- also our 20th anniversary. During our tourist season of the previous year, I approached visitors from all over the world and got them to wish her a Happy Birthday in their native language. I also had a lot of local mascots pitch in too.
That was combined with family video which included our sons as toddlers and pics that I got from her mother's old photo albums, all of it combined with a hand picked soundtrack.
I played it at a surprise party I arranged. She cried, her mom cried, I cried...
Those moments are priceless...

Nirvana--Smells Like Teen Spirit
>> ^videosiftbannedme:
The moves that cheerleader makes at 2:05....mmmm-mmmm. Can't get enough.
Funny that you mention them:
8. The cheerleaders in the "Teen Spirit" video were recruited from an LA strip joint. Nirvana really wanted their friend in the band L7 for the part. They were overruled. (Bonus fact: Dave was dating L7's Jennifer Finch at the time.)
9. The janitor was the actual janitor from director Sam Bayer's apartment complex in Venice Beach.
10. Kurt was worried "Teen Spirit" sounded too much like a Pixies song. He was also worried it had too much of the same feeling as Boston's "More Than a Feeling."
11. Nevermind's original recording budget was $65,000. They ended up spending twice that.

Carmack genuinely one of my heroes. "Masters of DOOM" is a terrific book if you're interested in the 3D renaissance of 90s PC gaming.

Washington Times Kicked Off Obamas Plane
One of the Nation's "leading newspapers"? Oh please.
As of March 31, 2007, the Washington Times had an average daily circulation of 102,351, about one-seventh that of its chief competitor in Washington, The Washington Post.
The Washington Times was founded by the direction of Unification Church founder Sun Myung Moon in 1982. Bo Hi Pak, called Moon's "right-hand man", was the founding president and the founding chairman of the board. In 2002, during the 20th anniversary party for the Times, Moon said, "The Washington Times will become the instrument in spreading the truth about God to the world."
Moon has said that he [referring to himself] is the Messiah and the Second Coming of Christ and is fulfilling Jesus' unfinished mission.
Classy Sandra Bernhard dissing Sarah Palin
>> ^dgandhi:
Rather chopped up, the audience seemed to be getting the jokes, which implies that it's been edited for rhetorical reasons. Any vid of this with more then 30sec continuity?
From YT:"Sandra Bernhard dishes Sarah Palin at Theater J, Washington, D.C.
In her revival of Without You I'm Nothing for the 20th anniversary-Sandra Bernhard is at the top of her game! Ready to tackle politics or whatever!"
Judging by what the youtube poster wrote I believe the rhetoric was intended to be against Palin, rather than portray Miss Bernhard as a lech. But that's how rhetoric goes sometimes, despite the purpose not everyone sees it the same way.
>> ^MINK:
downvote for idiots taking her literally and criticising her literal words literally (hellOOOOO! this is called COMEDY it's not REAL!!)
Seeing as I got a downvote I guess I'm one of those idiots who took her literally and criticized her literal words literally. Since I was the one who tagged this as comedy (it needs *standup too) I'd think it obvious I recognized that she was attempting comedy rather than just randomly talking shit about Palin. And I would like to clarify that while I was amused, in the manner I'm amused when I see a drunk guy spouting off, I didn't think it was very clever, just her stringing together a bunch of insults and explicit words.

Love it - I would like to come stay in his basement. The 20th Anniversary Mac would have to be the crown jewel of the collection.
