I don't think there were nearly that many people that said they didn't like him. I certainly didn't. I don't agree with him the majority of the time. If there is someone who is teetering on an issue and there is a post about it, then that person gets a chance to see some very different perspectives, and occasionally an extreme one.

Plus, I like to think he makes my arguments look good.:)

From what I know about the guy, I think he was hurt. But despite it all, I hope he returns.

social conservatism is, foremost, pro-choice. that is the largest plank, currently in the social conservative platform, in the states, today. and has been for most of my lifetime.

this does not, by any means, imply fiscal conservatism, however, which is a point many Libertarians here stress.

I think the big push to the right has left the right on the fringe and the left in the center, and of course you sound a helluva lot crazier when arguing from the fringe than from the center. Of course this centrist shift for the Dems has given them somewhat of an identity crisis, leaving them open to charges of spinelessness from both opponents and allies.

Anyway, it's clear from mushrooms comment to Dag that he has a major Christ complex. [2 weeks of not getting to vote on videos! = Nailed to a cross] So, a two week ban is probably the best thing he could have hoped for. I'm sure he is sopping up the victim pity over at FreeRepublic as we speak.

Personally I'm a lot more disappointed in a couple of other members than I ever was with QM. A Soviet Union comparison was tossed out there and a suspension is treated as if it were an outright ban and censorship or something, people who said no ban required and keep personality issues separate from the rest are lumped in with those who said just ban him for all of it and be done with it.

QM just did what he does, raised a bit of hell looking for a reaction. He can't disappoint or upset because that's just what he does. The rush to judgment between what I thought were friends though, that sucks. A small close community works better because everyone knows each other, Mink touched on it above with the comment "communities get too big and don't work" which is true. Yet in spite of that knowledge we insist on what, turning this place into another Youtube or something? The wild west with no accountability for excess?

The whole situation has been overblown. Being asked to behave in a civil manner is not censorship, this is not the Soviet Union and the comparison was silly, I've rarely seen a site that even tries to offer their members as much input as they do here. We can kill this site as quickly with misplaced idealism as anyone else can by outright aggression. I've used the web since it first developed when Usenet (text message) WAS the internet for the most part and have seen it happen too many times, good sites grow past the ability to self police through peer pressure and they either adapt to new rules and a larger user base or they lose what made them in the first place, wither away and die.
