Full Queue Freebie: Adbusters (Blog Post)

I wonder if anybody else subscribes to Adbusters, it's a magazine that comes in the mail, very informative, if you stop drinking energy drinks for just a couple weeks you'll be able to afford a 15 month subscription. Anyway, I check out their video section every now and then and this one came up today. I have a full queue (ahem) so I invite anybody to sift this one up.

I was actually surprised doing a search here on the sift, I noticed nobody has ever sifted an Adbusters clip. I could have sworn that I had, but alas I haven't. For those not familiar with adbusters, they are the ones responsible for most of the "Buy Nothing Day" information that makes it to the mainstream. CNN Spoke with Adbusters last year about their role in the BND campaign. So below is that interview with the Editor of Adbusters, it also should be avail for sifting goodness, as well as the whole youtube search result. Enjoy. (heh, notice how they hold the interview at the END of the day...baby steps I guess)

Full Queue Freebie: Raw Video of Satellite (Blog Post)

Here ya have it, Raw video of what is suppose to be a spy satellite being shot down, this is the clip provided by wired news. I find it interesting that Russia and China have actively beein trying to avoid a space weapons race, not too long ago they tried to get an international treaty signed to stop such an event...guess who didn't sign?

And, here are the official voices.

Is the American Media Retarded or Evil? (Blog Post)

It's one or the other.

You'know, I remember a long time ago when Barack announced he was running how the media "speculated" on how similar his name was too Osama Bin Laden's and how that might hurt his campaign.

Considering Obama has cleaning up, lately he's won the previous ten votes. Yet...TV media still makes it sound like a two horse race. I was watching the political coverage on CNN and couldn't help but to feel offended for Obama after this groundbreaking piece about...pointing...

Yup... that wasn't edited. That was exactly what they showed on CNN, are they suggesting Obama is aligned with Osama, oh, HA, I get it now...its a joke.hahah man CNN is the best place to go for comedy. You'know, CNN isn't really funny, lets turn the volumn off. <--- Go ahead, click it. Yes, the Close captioning insists that Al Qeada called Barack Obama and congratulated him. Malarkey, I don't think these are mistakes anymore, they happen way too often.

So, Americans please enlighten me, Is the Media Evil or Retarded?

Full Queue Freebie: Hillary and Monsanto (Blog Post)

Full Queues are never fun but heres a couple clips I would normally submit.

Found this clip from this blog, although I'd like to know what the documentary is from, I recognized Vandana Shiva from the documentary - The Corporation

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Av6dx9yNiCA

.. .. ..

How the heck did I get there, well I was reading this attack on Hillary Clinton from a chick who went to the same college as Hillary...Hillary has ties to Monsanto.

Mahalo have their own video girl, she's not bad, I wonder if submitting her stuff to the sift would be considered self promotion?

Oh...and how about the latest attempt to connect obama to osama. MSNBC it was the graphics guy and he was "reprimanded" - they wont identify him, maybe Fox News can get over there and find out who the guy was, what his motivation? did the clintons pay him hooray for TV news

Guide to Pro Video Blogging (Blog Post)

This Post is about Pro Video Blogging.

It's only fair for me to inform my sifting brethren that there are career opportunities in this feild, if not freelance gigs.

This blog section on Videosift is underrated and possibly underused. Here we have all the tools necessary to become pro video blogger/presenter/reviewer sifters. Anybody with the courage to write a couple interesting sentences about topics they care about has the potential of creating a great blog. I think many out there like the concept of having a blog, they just don't know how to get started. Well, if you don't want to blog about personal stuff, why not blog about videos you see here, on the sift.

Allow me to introduce The VAL (Video, analysis, links) Media Mashup, Basically you take bits and peices from the major 10 media corportions (videos, articles) and vomit out something that makes sense for you.  All over the internet the forumula is being used. Pro blogging is a reality. Bloggers earn livable wages for doing something they enjoy.

Maybe the more people who do this, the less Bill O'Reilly's we'll see, you'know he earns Nine Million Fucking Dollars to foxfart on your face all day.

The VAL media mashup works for any blog topic. I prefer - Science, History, Religion, Politics, Envrionment, Human Rights, World News and more. But you can generally pick any topic under the sun (or the sun) if you can type two coherant sentences, link to a couple reputiable sources and embed a video, you have just created a work of art.

Two sentences of analysis: That is what will earn you an audience and start a discussion.

Two links: so your audience can trust you and interact by digging.

Video(s): One embedded video is perfect - But if you can embed more for good reason, thats good too.

So Pro Video Blogging is a reality, I Pro Blogged for AOL News during the year of 2007 and watched the whole industry evolve around people blogging videos, every website is employing and hiring Pro Video bloggers, I always believed this type of media was more interesting then Television, and many viewers are now agreeing.

The Sift is set up as a network to find the best videos on the Internet and that brings in the most traffic. The blogs appear to be a seperate entity of the sift, hiding at the back of the room, available to us are thousands of videos to blog about, The blogging section could soon become just as big as the Sift.

So Start blogging sifting friends, or sit back and subscribe to mine

Why Canadians Can't watch TDS Online (Blog Post)

I found a pretty informative blog about the Canadian situation and the Daily Show website.

http://www.mathewingram.com/work/2007/10/25/hey-canadians-no-daily-show-for-you/

Why can’t you watch The Daily Show clips? The same reason you can’t watch an episode of Heroes on the website the day after it plays on TV, and the same reason you can’t download TV episodes from iTunes: Canadian networks like Global and CTV have paid for the right to broadcast those shows, and would no doubt raise a hue and cry if they were suddenly available for free on the Internet. That might destabilize the entire Canadian broadcasting business model, which relies on access to U.S. hits.

I watch TDS on CTV when its aired, It's sad to know that because of CTV we Canadians can't take advantage of the online archive and all the nifty search features.

On a happier note related to the TDS website, they have been featuring my blog in their "Daily Show in the news" column, I've had no less then three of my blog postings linked to their website since they came back, it's probably the coolest place thats ever linked to me...next to videosift of course.

Going Away (Blog Post)

Just wanted to stop by and let my fellow sifters that I am headed back to Ontario for the holidays, meaning my sifting time will be limited for the next two weeks. Hope you all have a great xmas and I'll be back in the New Year.

Cheers!

I Miss Jon Stewart (Blog Post)

Anybody who remembers my old TayTV blog remembers that I blogged the Daily Show every day, the best part of my job was watching Jon Stewart and finding links to back up what he says on his show.

Anyway... I did a post on AOL (aol pays me to blog) documenting the fact that I missed Jon Stewart and TDS during this strike, I posted a small collage of videos, including this Standup clip below. (I can't sift it because of the self link rule)

I am in a pretty good mood this evening as I learn NBC Anchor Brian Williams linked to my AOL post, the most famous person to link to me since Richard Dawkins did so back when I had TayTV. Enjoy the clip.

/Good article about the Writers Strike

Biggest Screwup in History? (Blog Post)

I watched GI Joe when I was younger and I always cheered for the US, so don't think I'm an American basher for posting this. You're current administration is a bunch of fuck ups, I am cheering for America to get out of this mess. God Speed.

This documentary No End in Sight is a must watch, Paul Bremer won the American Medal of Freedom and as an international citizen I believe that is an insult,I hope Americans feel the same. This prestigious award is for "especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interest of the United States, World Peace or cultural or other significant public or private endeavors"--Kennedy

Does Paul Bremer fit this description? In this clip we learn about the decisions Bremer made that changed the course in Iraq and perhaps the "War on Terror". After the military easily won the Iraq war, Bremer created an insurgency that would turn the easy victory into the long endless war scenario we are in today. As the title suggests, perhaps the biggest screwup in history, if not I would like to hear arguments against that claim, I like to see how this one atleast stacks up.

That was just a sniff, the full documentary is below, it's been sliced up into individual segments if you find a segment that inspires you to blog. This documentary is full of interviews will high level officials who were involved in the planning and reconstruction of Iraq, an fascinating peek behind the curtain, why was this stuff not reported more extensivly when it happend? So please, research, rant, blog, sift, go ahead and grab clips. Also included in the playlist below are interviews with Paul Hughes and the Documentary maker Charles Ferguson with Tavis Smiley, along with other PBS coverage of this Documentary.

Getting the News on the Sift (Blog Post)

Brian posted a good long post about the mainstream media online news players, one thing they all have in common is that they are all set up so that you have to watch it on their website, and you have to sit through all the advertisments..wow it's just like TV!...but on your computer...bah malarkey.

Now.. if these sites offered embed codes for every clip, I would congratulate them on figuring out the internet and be more likely to share their clips. Until then communities like the Sift will have to make due with what we got.  Most media outlets have a youtube page, some of them provide embeds. Here is a list of websites you might want to consider when looking to post news.

AlJazeera English - Solid News Clips, updated Often

Gallup News - Just Polls

PBS - Documentaries, NOW, Moyers etc..

CBC Marketplace

CBS - Mostly CBS promos not enough news.

BBC News - Perfect...doh no embeds!

The Real News - Indy TV

Democracy Now - More Indy TV

Also here is an impressive list of local NBC affiliates on the Youtube.

here is an AP video feed from livevideo.com, all embeddable, updates very often

There are plenty of sources for news out there.

The Knowledge Seekers of Videosift (Blog Post)

The internet is a never ending fountain of knowledge anybody can spend hours surfing and sifting through the endless pieces of knowledge once only made available to those who were privileged. The internet recently has been flooded with millions of new users thanks to the mass popularization of online video. Internet subscriptions are up while TV viewership is going down, it is only a matter of time before Television is swallowed by the Internet.

Many new websites are offering embedded videos and many older websites are starting to catch up to the technology. No doubt, there is lots of money being invested in online video. No matter how you slice it, Videosift is in the middle of one of the most compelling competitions for viewers in media history. All websites are suddenly on a level playing field with all the major media corporations like News Corp and Time Warner.

With copyright and regulations the major media companies can try to slow the Internet, but as long as there are honest people willing to share video, the internet will endure these ongoing setbacks, Videosift will survive even without the Viacom videos and FOX cartoons. TV is merely an engine to advertise mostly retarded products from insanely rich corporations and it works, over the year TV has turned generations of people into ignorant fools  who buy retarded products. 15 minutes out of every hour spent in front of the TV is time spent watching adverts, sometimes more especially with the rising number of VNR's. (Thats when they package advertisements as news.)

Anyway...The Internet is populated with thousands of new users daily, who bounce around the Internet until they find a website that they are comfortable with enough to call their home. I have bounced many times in my 10 year surfing history and I currently have two jobs involved with online media, Videosift is the latest website that has caught me bouncing and I would like think my contributions here will attract other passionate video researchers.

The Videosift community is who creates the value of each page on this website, its the users contributions that make this website a destination for online video entertainment.  Videosift is also a unique destination for knowledge, many users come here to take advantage of the vast, ever expanding archives of interesting and thought provoking topics that engulf philosophical, political, historical and scientific videos. Comment fields under such topics are generally full of random opinions, It's mainly in these comment threads where Internet Research is most important, especially when first time visitors and fence sitting members are using the videosift archive to find information.

Take this example, a submission by Karaidl titled "Who Owns America's wealth?" A very thought provoking clip, It says that the richest 1% of Americans own 37% of the nations wealth, that is an incredible statistic.  The numbers come from the Federal Reserve. I was able to find a few appropriate more links, first a link to some colourful charts and also opinions from a university professor who dedicates much time researching the topic.

So suddenly this video submission becomes a collection of information dedicated to the topic in the title, so now a new person who enters videosift after typing "Who Owns America's Wealth?" into google he will not only be visually stimulated by the moving picture he will be pleased to find links that will help him/her continue on the journey for answers, who knows maybe that new user will appreciate the mix of video and information and sign up and start contributing himself. So next time you have a couple extra minutes to burn after watching a clip on videosift, think about the knowledge seekers and include some research to our video archive.
