I'm not sure I could live with myself if there was another one. It was like taking candy from a scared baby.>> ^deathcow:
cool story... I did a lot of work as an independent contractor inventorying various pieces of telecomm equipment across Alaska for Y2K prep... great project , we should convince everyone they need 2012 post-apocalyptic certifications now

Nostradamus 2012 End Time

shuac says...

Nostrildamus is the whipping boy for all cataclysmic or otherwise newsworthy scenarios. Just check how many books have been written since WWII. He supposedly predicted Hitler, the bombing of Japan, Kennedy's assassination, Nixon's resignation, the fall of Phenom Pen, the Falklands conflict, the Challenger Shuttle disaster, Y2K, 9/11, George Bush, the Columbia Space Shuttle disaster, Obama, and now 2012.

And guess what? His prose will be used to "predict" all the cataclysms and newsworthy items of the future too. Why? Because it sells books and makes for entertainment fodder. No other reason than that.

Remember that Y2K TV movie? It was shite, yes, but it provided jobs for quite a few people in the TV industry. Same with this new Emmerich flick. Same with all disaster movies, political biopics, polemic documentaries, and "uncovered secrets" books that we have not yet seen. We're creative, you see, and we demand to be entertained.

Rather than register to the umpteen-thousand conspiracy message boards currently out there, I'd very much like to frequent a single, official 2012 message board, expressly for rational thinkers' postings of "We're still here, morons."

Because I'm exactly the kind of person who says "I told you so."

Not really funny, but true (Blog Entry by dag)

Deltron 3030 - Virus

MrFisk says...

I wanna make a super virus
Strong enough to cause black outs in every single metropolis
Cuz they dont want to unify us
So fuck it
total anarchy and can't nobody stop us

You see late in the evening
Fucked up on my computer and my mind starts roaming
I create like a heathen
The first cycles of this virus i can send through a modem

Infiltrate and hit your station
No microsoft or enhanced dos with mp
Society thinks theyre safe when
Bingo hard drive crashes from the rending

A lot of hackers tried viruses before
vaporize your text like so much White-out
I want it where file replication is a chore
Lights out shut down the entire White House
I don't want just a bug that can be corrected
I'm erecting immaculate design
Break the nation down section by section
Even to the greatest minds
its impossible to find

I wanna develop a super virus
Better by far then the old Y2K
This is 3030 the time of
global unification break right through their
terminals burn em all
slaves of silicon
corrupt politicians with leaders and their keywords

FBI and spies stealin bombs
dissipitate their plans
and (?) catch the fever

Everybody loot the stores get your canned goods
Even space stations are having a hard time
Peacekeepers seek to take our manhood
which results in a form of global apartheid

ghettos a trash dump for gas pumps
exploded and bunt out just before the great union
the last punks walk around like mass monks
ready to manipulate the database or break through em

human rights come in 100 hundredth place
mass production has always been number one
new earth has become a repundant (?) place
So its time to spread the fear (?)

How to throw away the game of your life in 3 minutes

Deano says...

I actually remember where I was that night; watching the game alone in a tiny hotel room in Peterborough wondering how my company was getting away with charging for bullshit Y2K work.

Unhappy days.

Building a New PC (Blog Entry by lucky760)

My computer proudly boasts how Y2K compliant it is on the bootscreen. I guess I should upgrade. Still better than Swampgirl's though. Her's is cast iron apparently.

Y2K: The Apocalypse That Wasn't

arvana says...

It always bugged me that humanity managed to pull together and completely avert a possible disaster on Y2K, and yet that success was non-news.

Apparently only the fear of disaster was a good story.

fuck we're stupid.

I am guilty

Where I live, the county courthouse said that their computer software was not y2k compliant, and that they needed millions of dollars to update. (Just like the Department of Motor Vehicles and alot of other government agencies).

I believed them and didn't pay a court ordered fine from a previous problem (because I'm stupid).
I just knew their computers would fail and my records would be lost, and they would never figure it out.

My plan is the only thing that failed On Y2k( a night in jail..pay the fine). Oh well! Things will only be better in 2001!

Yeah, I've heard that Katamari is really good. The most fun/interesting casual game I've played in a while has been the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series for the Nintendo DS. If you happen to have one of those, you should definitely check it out, it's a ton more fun than one would think at first glance.

I grew up on consoles, I barely touched PC gaming until I tried Warcraft 2...before that it was the NES and SNES. I even remember how excited I was when we get a Nintendo 64, lol. Good times.

I've also always wanted to try Katamari Damarcy but I think that's playstation only. i'm definetley a console guy and my PC proudly boasts how Y2K compiant it is on the bootscreen, so it's not the freshest machine around.

Never had a Dreamcast, so I'm afraid I didn't.

I showed that Passage game to one of my good buddies and to my girlfriend today, they both loved it as well.

I like a pretty huge range of games, from RPGs to FPSs and some RTSs as well once in a while, but it all just depends on my mood. Usually I'm just into gaming as entertainment, but sometimes there are games that manage to be both massively entertaining and still make you think about things or care about the reality the characters are involved in, and those are probably the games that make me like gaming the most (though they're extremely few and far between).

I just recently bought an xbox, and as much as I enjoy violence and reckless driving, it often leaves me wanting. I think there's so much more room for art. I recently heard of a game that was audio only, and you put on your headphones or surround sound and play. how cool is that?

ever played Shenmue?

In reply to this comment by JAPR:
I especially liked that "Passage" video, as I'm sure you could tell by my comments on it. I think sometimes people forget that video games are themselves something we can use as a form of artistic expression.

Hey, Thanks, JAPR! What do you think of this one, i sorta thought you might like it when I saw it...

This is classic web video. There should be a channel for videos that predate Y2K. I think this kid is responsible for a certain portion of the ginger hate over in the UK these days.

Hudson Crash Audio: 'We're Going to Be in the Hudson"

mintbbb says...

*promote .. I am unbelievably afraid of flying, and now this pilot is my ultimate hero! I've had so many nightmares of being in a plane and having the engines just die.. Of course in my nightmares the plane then goes down like a rock (a la The Simpsons Y2K episode)

Good to know pilots like him exist! =)
