I am so one of the few who thought the William Hurt movie version really got a lot of things right. I loved the style, the effects, the acting, the actors (leblanc takes some time to get used to. I did not like friends and he has a punchable mug). The only thing that fell apart was the last 3rd of the movie, the whole time travel going back to a mutant gary oldman spider creature was just so...unwanted. But the lighting, the way the ship looked, the way the suits were designed, awesome. There is very little I see that I like in this trailer.

Dune was an amazing book. Like LOTR, the story is huge. Lynch got so caught up in the movie, his version ended up something like 4.5 hours. Something that couldn't be marketed. Most of it ended up on the cutting room floor as they hacked it apart to bring it down to a regular movie sized chunk. The result was that anyone who haddn't read the book, had problems following it.

They tried for years to get TV networks to run it but no network would consider it. Finely it was agreed that someone would go back and re-edit a new version of the film for TV. That's the only way they managed to get it on the networks.

Most people don't realize that there are two versions to this film. Both very different from each other. As it ended up, there was enough unused film footage to create a whole different version of the film. Alot of the scenes are the same, but shot from different camera angles.

I've seen both. I have the original VideoTape movie version (It even came with a Dune dictionary so you could follow along with the lingo), but I have never managed to tape the TV edit version to my VCR. (it hasn't been released in any other format - That I've ever seen.)

On that note, years after that. There was a 6-hour mini-series remake of Dune staring William Hurt - I have that on DVD also.

Loved this movie. William Hurt rarely fails to impress me.

Dark City is a underrated sci-fi classic, which I liked and enjoyed more then The Matrix. This is an excellent music video for the film using Rammstein track Sonne. Also featuring Jack Bauer.

Dark City is a 1998 film written by Alex Proyas, Lem Dobbs and David S. Goyer, and directed by Proyas. It stars Rufus Sewell, William Hurt, Kiefer Sutherland, and Jennifer Connelly. While not a box office hit, it has a considerable reputation. Film critic Roger Ebert is a well-known fan of the movie, having rated it with four stars out of four and naming it the best film of 1998. Ebert uses it in his teaching, and also appears on a commentary track for the DVD.

The story begins with a man waking in a hotel room with no memory, which soon proves to be but one of many troubles. He is being sought by police, who believe him to be a serial killer, and also by a group of mysterious men with psychokinetic powers. Furthermore, something appears to be wrong with the world at large: time, memory, and identity behave in unusual ways. The film is dedicated to the memory of Dennis Potter, which may be considered a useful indicator of the style of the story. The style of the film might also be said to owe something to Expressionism and film noir, and may be considered neo-noir.
