man raises baby leopard

oxdottir says...

This video is really cute, but it worries me so much. That little cat is a wild thing, and it's learning that humans are a source of food and love. If he ever lets it go, it's going to approach humans, and those humans will not be happier for the offered contact.

Oh, I fret.

You're driving... you're driving... you're driv-- OH SHIT!!

zombieater says...

"Poor things"!? I hope you mean the people driving the cars. Due to mismanagement of our national forests, deer have become a huge pest - defoliating forests in a few years and leading to a practical ecological disaster. An increase in hunting won't kill enough and control enough of these "poor things"; we need to reintroduce the most effective deer killers that have since been extirpated: top predators such as wolves, cougars, and coyotes.

Meet Egypts Strongest Man

wax66 says...

Hmmm... so he's saying he can't control his strength. And yet he partakes in sex where wild things can, and do, happen due to the chemicals the body produces.

Is he saying he has 4 wifes... a DAY? I mean, seriously. If he could suddenly have a burst of strength while picking up a truck, could he not have that same burst while plowing his wives? Split them in two? Pelvic thrust them through the wall?

Yes, I did just try to bring logic to the table of an obvious scam artist.

Counter-Strike - You Got Owned By A Five Year Old

12418 says...

Spoco, You're an idiot. My son plays HL2 ONLINE. not the actual storyline game. Moron. You really think a 6 year old could? Like I said, You have no idea what you're talking about. Why let him play it? Because he thinks it's fun. It *is* fun. He doesn't sit there crying his eyes out because some make believe people got shot. The bodies disappear. They don't lose limbs or anything. Jesus. Did I say I was a christian? No. I have him play where I know people will keep the porn sprays and cursing to a minimum.

The kid plays piano. My other kids play guitar. But go ahead and make pointless grabs at trying to prove your point though. *I* know my kid is well rounded. So do those that know him. Just because he likes to play shooter games, (just like most kids) doesn't make him or me bad. You however are a quick to judge asshole. And you're wrong. These games teach about teamwork, consequences, problem solving, and much, much more. But focus on the simulated "violence" of pointing a gun and going "bang" like kids his age have been doing since the creation of the toy gun. Actually, it doesn't even take a toy to point your finger and go "bang"

And you think that because I said that scary movie music frightens him that I force him to watch them? You are such a colossal dumbass. Ever hear of "overhearing" things? Kids do it all the time. I suppose it's also horrible that I taught him to read Where the Wild Things are. Or that I expose him to art, movies, or outside. That I let him ride his bike with *gasp* no knee pads! The horror!

And if you think its wrong to celebrate winning or beating anyone, at anything, you are what is wrong with this country. People like you celebrate weakness, and mediocrity and sameness. Screw that. My kid is an individual. And I'm damn proud of him.

Yeah, I posted it after I was reminded about it from your question.

Your comment about amnesia is very insightful. In fact, if you don't remember it, it didn't happen. I always tell my residents that when I'm training them. Good story......We give a brief dose of IV anesthetic for cardioversion of the heart, when they try to get someone back in a regular heart rhythm. Sometimes we do them in our anesthesia recovery room. One day I was doing a great big guy. I had the resident give him the dose, he quit responding to me, so I told the cardiologist, "shock away". They hit him with the paddles and he sits bolt upright and yells, "shit, you goddamn motherfuckers" at the top of his lungs. All the nurses and patients recovering from anesthesia look down our way wide-eyed. The guy lays right back down, goes back to sleep for 2 or 3 minutes. When he wakes up I say, "you alright?" "Fine" he says. "Did we bother you at all?" I ask. "Don't remember a thing," he says.

So, if you don't remember it, temporary discomfort does one no harm.

The benzos, like versed (midazolam) are potent amnestics. The wild thing about them is, once you give it, the majority of patients appear awake, conversant, cooperative, but later they don't remember a thing. When patients hear that, they worry "what did I say that might have been inappropriate?" It worries them. I've had a few with loosened inhibitions, but not many.

"Where the Wild Things Are" Test Video

moonsammy says...

Oh, I'm sure it'll look gorgeous and the voicing and such will be great, but it won't be "Where the Wild Things Are" - it'll be a much different story very loosely based on the original. It has to be - if you watch the animated version you'll see how short and simple the story is. They're probably going to accomplish what they're planning to do, but it won't be a movie of the book, much like the recent "Jumper" wasn't a movie of the book.

I'd prefer to see some originality in Hollywood and the abandonment of creating bastardized versions of beloved pre-existing materials, but I know that isn't at all likely to happen any time soon.

The Top 20 Coolest Guitar Riffs

snoozedoctor says...

This is a great thread. People seem to still be arguing about what are riffs, licks, etc. Maybe some of you play rock guitar, I don't know. But, speaking as a rock guitarist, generally we consider a riff to be a repeating phrase that is played as single notes. Most rock riffs are built on the blue's scale, but they don't have to be. A "lick" is a non-repeated phrase, usually part of a guitar solo. Example, "Man, that was a mean lick you played in the middle of
that solo!"
Song's like "Wild Thing" are just chord progressions, in this case I-IV-V-IV repeated over and over. Rock guitarists don't really consider those riffs, although, if you look it up in a dictionary, a "riff" can be a repeating set of chords too, so, technically, about everybody is right here.
In summary, rock guitarists think of riffs in terms of the following examples;

Led Zeppelin --(definitely one of the lords of riff), "Heartbreaker, Black Dog, The Ocean song, Misty Mountain Hop, Dazed and Confused, etc. etc.
Hendrix-- Manic Depression, The opening of Purple Haze, etc. etc.
Cream-- Sunshine of your love, Crossroads, etc.

Keep 'em coming, it's fun to hear what people like in riffs.
What makes a great riff? It's your interpretation. Either it grabs you, or it doesn't. What amazes me is how many different ways a few notes can be arranged. The more unique, the better as far as I'm concerned.

In reply to this comment by blankfist:
Thanks, qruel. Yes, we're in post now. We haven't started editting yet, though. Um, the film is a drama. I'm terrible with pitches, but the best one I could come up with was Kramer v Kramer meets Wild Things, I suppose. Once we're done cutting it, we hope to get it out into festivals and all that. Right now, I'm just focusing on getting the film cut, and all that other marketing and festial stuff can wait for now.

wow, very cool. a feature is a helluva lot of work.

are you in post now ? if so where at ?

tell me about the film (story and techinical info) and your hopes for it when done.

In reply to this comment by blankfist:
Haha, you are so right. I just shot a feature out here, and I swore never to shoot another one in LA. It's not friendly to indie filmmakers. I decided early on to go guerilla and shoot without permits, so we were constantly ducking cops. We only got kicked out of one area, which was by a Ranger up on a canyon trail overlooking the cityscape. So, we just packed everything up, made the hike down, and a week later we went back to get the rest of the shots.

Way too expensive out here to shoot. Next feature I do, I'm taking it back to North Carolina, which is where I'm from originally.

In reply to this comment by qruel:
Hey, thanks for the compliment. we shot the film here in the midwest (along with all the other films on that site).

i've got a few friends in La nd they talk about how expensive it is and all the permits they have to get before shooting and it makes me wonder how any indie projects get done there

In reply to this comment by blankfist:
Hey, that's really well done. I wasn't expecting the spiders at the end. And, I loved the nod to Audition with her wardrobe at the end. Where did you shoot that? Out here in LA, or are you somewhere else? Great job.

I was posting to Farhad when i saw your comment about AUDTION. It was DEFINATELY creepy as hell. so here is a short movie I thought you might dig called THE EVIL INSIDE (forgive me if I already sent this to you). I edited this film and the director was a HUGE audition fan (you'll tell from the short) This is the 10 minute version (down from 30 minutes)
