Pranking Humans - Ozzy Man Quickies

"Hey hey kid, looky here, look at how white my teeth is? It's whiter than my never-seen-a-sunlight stark white skin! ... ... Oh, oh, where are you going? Don't you brush your teeth like my caretaker does to me everyday?"

TED Talk: Whitopia

newtboy says...

Interesting....isn't he saying that mainly white areas tend to be better? That seems to be a fairly racist position.
Odd that he mentions areas all over the country, but details only from southern states, as if the whole nation is historically racist like the secessionist states.
Let's talk Vermont, who actively encourages non white immigration and those who go tend to report being treated kindly with respect, yet they're still far below average in diversity.
I live in Humboldt county, which is much whiter than average. I can't figure out why more non whites don't move here unless it's a lack of development and services. Those I've known were happy here and saw less racism than they had in major cities.

The laugh track addition is just dumb and inappropriate. Often the shot of the crowd showed them sitting quietly while raucous laughter erupted from the track over nothing funny.

I Can't Show You How Pink This Pink Is

Buttle says...

Pink is a combination of red and white light.
There are almost surely numerous combinations of various spectral colors that will look exactly like ultra-pink to our limited eyes. Fitting into the various color gamuts involved in color reproduction and perception is not very simple at all.

Whiter than white washing powders work by using fluourescence -- they transmute some of the ultraviolet light striking them into visible light. The reason this works is explainable by a color gamut, the gamut of the human eye. If we could see in the ultraviolet range that is being absorbed then the trick wouldn't be nearly as effective. There are animals, for example bees, that do see colors bluer than we can, and in fact some flowers have patterns that are visible only to them.

It is possible that fluorescence is partly responsible for ultra-pinkness. If it is, that would have been more interesting than what was presented.

I suspect, but do not know, that the CMYK or RGB color representation schemes are up to the task of encoding the colors you describe. The problem is that there is no practical process that can sense them in an image, nor any practical process that can mechanically reproduce them.

It does not have to be about fitting into gamut, pink is a combination of blue and red light, which monitors are good at.

The problem with real world materials is that perception is not as simple as that. The combination of reflected, refracted, and even radiated (transformed wavelength) and polarized light, the micro-structure of the surface and possibly other properties can influence perception.

Like your favourite washing powder makes your whites whiter, this stuff makes pinks look pinker somehow. Its about fooling your eyes in specific conditions. You can simulate the difference between a known pink - a standard colour sample - and this awesome new pink by putting them side by side and calibrating the camera and monitor to show the new pink as pink and the reference pink as less pink, like at the end of the video, but that cant beat walking into an art gallery and seeing it with your own eyes. I mean probably, I havent seen this particular pink, but I have seen modern paintings which look nothing like their RGB or CMYK reproductions.

Jon Stewart Picks Apart Palin & GOP Incoherent Speeches

Getting the, "...whites, whiter...", comment killed me...

Oh and as an afterthought...you know, it might really help America in general if we really do NOT allow politicians to use script writers and teleprompters (unless they write said speech before hand themselves). Like that pipe-dream could ever come true...

Whiter Shade of Pale - Procol Harum

Trout says...

Ah, one of the all-time great singles of the rock era. So mature, yet it was their first single. I envy those hearing this for the first time (and they're just kids in this video... kids!). One of Paul McCartney's favorite songs:

McCartney: "It's got to be "A Whiter Shade of Pale." The first time I ever heard it was the night I met Linda. We met at the Bag O' Nails, and we went on to the Speakeasy, and they played the record of it there. We were with Keith Moon of the Who and Eric Burdon of the Animals, and we were all trying to figure out who it was. We all thought it must be Stevie Winwood, but it turned out to be Procol Harum. We just said, 'This is the best song ever, man.'"

I am confused about this case. Which part of Zimmerman is white? Isn't he Latino? And if there are no witnesses (according to the court case), how do we know if he is guilty or innocent? Why don't we get upset about this instead or as well? http://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/florida-mom-marissa-alexander-serve-20-years-firing-warning-shot-while-george-zimmerman It feels as though we are getting swept along here in some sort of hysteria rather than a measured appropriate response to these events.

A whiter than white dainty female jazz singer reinterpreting rap tracks is a lot more internetz friendly than a jazz singer singing her mainstream jazzy pop stylings. I don't get the impression that she's done this cynically - it's just something that's resulted in her getting lots of attention. Her own stuff is a world away from this, and I can't see much of a crossover possibility in terms of people who'd be into her original stuff... But it's hard to turn down all those internet hits that lead to guest spots on Ellen. The fact is, even if you're ridiculously talented at what you do, you don't necessarily get to choose what people decide gives you notoriety. ( not that she necessarily is.)

Well put, and true. Still as a rapper myself it's annoying to see someone getting notoriety for something they don't even do well just because it's done in a novelty way. What makes rap something to appreciate is the writing and delivery by that writer. All the puns, play on words, metaphors, similes, and just over all display of clever wit. I'm just a die-hard I guess so seeing some chick covering a song pretty much exactly how it already is bugs me. And the dude in the video might as well not even be there?! He plays like two chords and sings a note or two in each video. Good job?!
