and interesting (if you find wines interesting) thing to note regarding "good" or "bad" years is that is almost exclusively a european thing.

which is why california (and now washington state,among others) has consistently won top awards,and it basically comes down to weather.

california and basically the entire west coast have some of the most steady climate.whereas europes weather is far more volatile.

so a "good' year for a french wine may mean "there was no drought" or "no floods this year".

ya know,as i am writing this i am giggling to myself.the reason why i know ANY of this is because i was a captain at yesterdays on the intracoastal for years and for me to become a captain i had to pass this 300 question test specifically about wines and get a 95% or above.

here it is 20 years later and i STILL know way more about wine than i really care to,i dont even drink wine for fuck sakes!

In case you weren't joking, I'll explain. That's 10pm on the East or West coast, 9pm 'central' time zone .
National stations often show programs at the same time (local time) on the coasts, but don't do a third or fourth showing in between for those in the middle of the country, who just get the East or West coast timing...meaning central time zone gets the same broadcasts as the East coast, all 1 hour earlier local time from the East coast time zone...so a program shown at 10pm in NY will be seen in Texas at 9pm Texas time, watching the same broadcast at the same exact time.

There was a whole circuit on the West Coast about 10 years ago. Where I live ended up being part of it for awhile.

I guess they headed to the East Coast and left us behind...

Well THAT was pretty much the response I expected given this was Oregon, which (apart from Portland and Ashland) is pretty much the Texas of the West Coast.

I liked the snow in Michigan so it's tempting to say East coast, but now that I'm older it's lost some appeal so I'm going to have to go with West coast. Portland is much better than any city in Michigan except for Detroit which is a mess right now.

Living in Portland, OR and being from Michigan, I've been asked whether I like the East coast or the West coast better and this is by people from the states.

Oh! I get it now...you meant West coast OF FLORIDA. (To be honest, I was confusing Ft Lauderdale with Tampa...Tampa is the city my relatives live 'near'....and it IS more 'conservative', is it not? You can probably guess I don't spend much time over/down there).
Yes, I DO know what it's like to walk far in August/Florida. I grew up in Houston, just as humid, even hotter! I used to love to ride my bike in the 105 deg summers and get crazed looks from everyone peering out of their air conditioned cars and shops. I can't take that heat anymore now that I'm old and broken, and spoiled by N California.
And I've also had to park far from events...I now drive a rotten 44 year old Bronco. It's mechanically near perfect, but the body is a rusted hulk...and I don't care a bit! It actually helps me in traffic, no one tailgates me, and they move when I come from behind. ;-)

Well, OK....if you live(d) there you DO know it better than I. I have family near by, and have driven through many times. It always seemed far more 'conservative' than you say, but again, I never lived there, I'm just going by fleeting impressions and second hand info.
What set me off was 2 part...first that you didn't bother to watch the video but still commented on it as if you had (not so bad a thing, but odd), and second the implication that anti-homeless laws were a 'LIBERAL' thing and not a 'CONSERVATIVE' thing, because the videos shown/seen have clearly shown the opposite. Apologies if I went overboard.
The one's on film saying 'feeding them is keeping them homeless' or 'we don't want homeless people here, period, and anything that removes them or makes them uncomfortable is what we want' have all been republican/tea party elderly white people. It may be they're the outliers and it really IS a 'liberal' plan, but I ask you, which 'party' does the chairman of the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust belong to (I honestly don't know)? (I must admit I was really surprised to see the mayor is a Democrat).
So, while you seem to be at least partially correct (maybe totally), I hope you understand why I was (apparently) mistaken, since all the vocal people out there promoting starving the homeless are conservatives.
Where I live, it's a 'liberal' bastion, and we DO feed the homeless here along with other services they're offered, and we have a very vocal 'conservative' population that wants to do exactly what Ft Lauderdale did, make feeding them or offering ANY service illegal, including police and medical services. They're pretty hard core about it.
