TED: Jared Diamond on why societies collapse

eatbolt says...

Apart from how much I hate the elitist idea behind TED (a bunch of self-righteous losers decide who is "wonderful" and who isn't), many of the people they sham into attending actually give good talks. At least we vacuous wastes of humanity get a glimpse of this greatness via a postage-stamp-sized video.

Ranting aside, this is a great talk by a great author.

Russell Brand is a Fxxxing Nutter

When this guy was circumsized they threw away the wrong bit.

Troglodite pathetic waste of human life, I hate this man so much he makes me want to vomit.

The Dumbest Death in the James Bond Series

dannym3141 says...

Roger Moore turned Bond into a joke and ruined the whole damn thing. The man has starred in countless films, loved and lost a string of women and spawned 3 offspring. Yet the greatest contribution he has given the earth drops out of his anus when he sits down in the smallest room.

I cannot express how much i hate Roger Moore. I've never met the man, and i hope i never have to. He's a despicable waste of human flesh, a smarmy pompous arrogant trumped up eye brow waggling t**t.

He ruined James Bond, and he ruins every cubic millimetre of air that he uses to voice his vacuous stories about nothing that anyone cares for, in his stupid voice.

If i ever saw him sleeping i'd shave his eyebrows off out of spite. And i'd do it with a strimmer.

Asshat.

Blaming the Media coverage for Vietnam Loss

qbert says...

I heard a CSpan interview with Nixon dated around the same time, in which he insisted the war was a great idea and not at all a waste of human life. In his autobiography, I believe it was, Nixon argued that America had "won the war" but "lost the peace"--which seems to demonstrate his own confusion, about the possibility of "winning" a pointless contest of mass-killing.

The dominoes never fell. Vietnam went right to war with its ancient enemy China, shortly after the departure of the Quixotic, merciless Americans. And now right-wing scum celebrate the Cambodian Genocide as a gift to vile revisionism, ad infinitum. George W used it not so long ago, in contending that the USA never should have left Vietnam--you can guess what argument he was making with that pretzel logic.

Inside a Russian nuclear-bomber airbase

Farhad2000 says...

The NATO designated Bear bomber is a relic stright from the 60s, unlike the B-52 it has not been incrementally upgraded over the years to keep up with the times, its 4 rotory engines are so loud deterent air patrols along the UK and US would hear the bomber before actually making visual contact. Occasionally submarine crews would pick up the Bear bomber ascoustics when they were flying overheard.

It's outlandish military wankery by the Kremlin, its a waste of human resources and fuel for the dubious benefit of looking hardcore. When in reality the illusion of might is simply another facade for a military that is still trying to recover and reconsitute itself.

C.S. Lewis, Why God allows pain

BicycleRepairMan says...

"Life, dont talk to me about life..."

While I'm at it, here's some thoughts about the value of human life, in the atheist/humanist perspective. Whats my motivation for, say, saving a drowning child? To me, its just another primate, it will die one day anyway, and I wont get a reward, so why bother?

Well, apart from the obvious, innate feeling that letting kids die just feel very wrong, there is the sheer value of life, I think human lives are almost infinitely valuable, well, because I think my own is valuable.. I think of this life as a unique opportunity given, by fantastically amazing odds against, to us all.
This is it for me, this is my chance.

I may be a bit of "chemical scum" as some scientist charmingly put it, but I happen to be the kind thats woken up, able to reflect on my own existance, furthermore, and against even bigger odds, I am alive at a time when humans have begun to understand and discover some mind-boggling facts about this world, and even luckier, I live in a time and place where I am free to say and think what I want,

In short, this life is precious, it is unique. Given my understanding, I dont see any reasons why every other human should have the same opportunities as me. Wasting a human life, whether its your own or others, is the greatest crime we can inflict on eachother. I will only live once, I have every reason to make it a good one.

If I was to retort with the same token to you, Raifim, I might say the following:

Whats your motivation for life? why bother? God controls everything anyway, who cares what you do, and the sooner a child dies, the more chance it wont blow it before it goes to heaven, right? If you believe in the Christian doctrine, why be good at all? Jesus will forgive you for anything, right?

Of course, I know thats not the way you see it, but my point is that the religious view can be seen as equally pointless as the view that really admits its all basically pointless.

Bush's Greatest Moments

In defence of Sweatshops

choggie says...

A walmart, for the uninitiated, is a concrete structure with at least 15000 sqaure feet minimun floorspace, containing items consisting mainly of petroleum by-products, sugar, and working-class poor, the most highly decorated of which can be called manager/supervisor-While their job duties are only slightly different, the supervisors, checkers, and stockers all for the most part, have these things in common:

Poor health bennies
Paycheck-to-paycheck job security
Little or no company pride, enthusiasm,or loyalty

The kind of beast that Walmart is, dictates the overall vibe of the institution.
Little or no concern for the human factor, or their quality of life, and profit-driven above all else.

Quality is a thing of the distant past.
In the not to distant pass, it was the poorest with regard to monetary wealth, who were the artisans and producers of quality in this country.
Go to Turkey...they still make the finest tile and marble...
to Belgium for chocolate, to Trinidad for steel drums....

Come to America for worthless shit, imported from Taiwan...a city known for its endless miles of sweatshops and manufacturing compounds....toxic waste, ansd human wreckage....Exploitation is the walmart difference!!!!

The Death of an Embryo

joedirt says...

This is lame PSA. What is funny is that all these yuppies with their fertility treatments cause they are having babies at 45 yrs old and protest down at the abortion clinics on the weekend types,

they usually implant quite a few embryos to make sure one of them takes. No one is concerned about that. Shouldn't they do them one at a time, so they don't waste any human lives?
